Just not the same without Steve but nice❤
Brilliant! You can't find this level of quality anywhere in today's music scene. This song is just haunting and stays in your head for days on end. It's just the epitome of beautiful.
❤❤❤
I had this old car in 1988 that only had AM and they used to play this song on the radio all the time. I couldn't stand it. I would actually turn it off when it started because I hated it that bad! Then one day I finally listened to the entire thing and I was hooked. I called the radio station to ask them what the name of this masterpiece was and it's been one of my favorites ever since❤❤❤❤
Renee was the Pretty Ballerina. She dated everyone in the band except Michael !?!?
can't believe i didn't discover this '60s wee gem earlier its gorgeous
Back in the days of vinyl 45s in juke boxes I used to play a lot of "flip sides". I found this lovely song on the back of "Don't Walk Away Renee", and have loved it ever since. ❤ One of the best videos I've seen is one where a young ballet dancer dances to it on the city streets.
Wow , the song lives on it's own . One of my favorites and the comlicated story unfolds itself with logical beautiful lyrics equals poetry at it's best from such a young man.
Who's the dude giving stage instructions during the performance. Takes me out of the zone.
Wow, absolutely fab! ❤👍
This sounds great!! Wonderful job fellas! Thank you!
The last verse?! Your name and mine...etc. Best ever, not here...
That was just beautiful
I was a drummer & keyboardist in a band for 6 years (in the mid-late 60's) and we performed both Walk Away Rene and Pretty Ballerina. Each time I hear these songs it reminds me of just how great it was to be alive during that time. The bond that developed between all of our band members lasted a life-time. There are only 3 of us left and it is sad that the original Left Bank Members are all gone. I can't hear, play, or sing their music without getting tearful. RIP Guys and Thanks!
I love this tune so much.
Why do we have to get old.
Because the alternative REALLY sucks
To make room for the young.
Who's the singer? He has a lovely voice, and I'd like to hear more of him. At first I thought I was listening to Caro.
I found out it is Mike Fornatale.
I heard the original guitarist, Jeff Winfield was in the audience that night. Too bad he wasn't called up!
Jeff died in 2009. He was not in this audience.
Didn't know, too bad! I guess all the originals are gone now. Still, I know its a cliche, but the music lives on!
An absolutely exquisite song, one of my favorite records of the 60's. But this vocalist was not Steve Martin Caro? He sounds so much like the original record.
''..somewhere a mountain is moving....''
I doubt the band needed conducting.
I was 6 years old in 1967 but I still listened to the radio. Great beautiful song.
Michael David Lookofsky, April 25, 1949 - March 19, 2015) was an American keyboardist and songwriter, most notable for his work with the Left Banke. He was born in Brooklyn, New York, the son of violinist and arranger Harry Lookofsky.
Just close your eyes and she'll be there. 👍
May George Rest In Peace 🙏❤️🙏
Fantastic song
Just stunning! Only the 60's did this stuff!
What's with the mask?
That's me shaking Mike Brown's hand on stage. VisualNoiz can you change the spelling of my name to Charly Cazalet from Charlie?
Sounds like they should tour with Sparks. Get more people knowing who they are.
Amazing, beauttiful, wonderful.. The best song ever
Interesting seeing Finn do precisely what he did on the original recording: Nothing.
Tom, I'm so happy you're not here anymore! Jerk! This video is proof enough of your antics over the years!
I think Emitt Rhodes of The Merry-Go-Round was another teen genius. Unfortunately for Rhodes and Brown music changed radically after 1967. I believe music took on a sinister purpose to put the youth in a trance, cast a spell. I was 14 in 1967. EDIT: I think Hip Hop has the same sinister purpose.
He wrote some great songs.
Love the song and love you.
Finn you PRATT, so glad you're gone! Mr. Conductor, with very little talent, and always full of yourself! I miss our arguments JERK! Rest in Pieces!
You were acquainted with the late Mr Finn?
Love the song....always have. I don't believe it needs a conductor for they should know this song.
The most gorgeous, plaintive, innocent, moving song ever.
This is one of the most beautiful songs written ever........
all dead now
Is Tom Finn a control freak, or what?!
Who is the fool pretending to conduct the band? He even told Brown when to stop (as if he didn’t know the song he wrote)!
Fantastic to see and hear Pretty Ballerina here. Very Pleasurable...I Always Loved This Song...more than their Bigger Hit "Walk Away Renee"....for me, it was because I Couldn't Come Close to singing it. Yes...I Have To Agree...Very Few of my friends at that time, even knew this tune....under the radar for some up here in Toronto Canada. I would of Really Enjoyed...Seeing The Singer Actually Sing It Though....Esp. If He Was The Original Singer...He Certainly Sounded Like it. Thank you.
Those two songs by Mike Brown are like the person who commented earlier are hauntingly Beautiful, it’s the innocent of the words and it’s sincerity that takes you back to a time of my innocence before I lost it
All of the original members of Left Banke have now passed.
Mike was definitely a brilliant, talented guy. I always liked his work with the Left Banke and the Stories. It's great he reunited with these guys before he made his transition three years later. Rest in power Mike, you were one of a kind.
Forget Stories. Little input from Michael. Instead seek out Montage and The Beckies for some equally brilliant tunes he wrote.
@@harvey1954 Micheal did appear on the first two Stories albums, and he wrote all the material with Ian Lloyd.
@harvey1954 I have both records by Montage and The Beckies too. Great stuff...
Singers voice hasn’t changed.
That’s Mike Fornatale singing Steve Martin Caro’s part
Lol yes it has. That's not even the same guy.
Que magnifico por favor! Amor a la música...
So wonderful, on so many levels.
It was nice to play with him again after all these years.
Can't tell you how evocative were and are Renee' and Pretty Ballerina. To have contributed to, to have been a part of that culture defining ensemble must be an especially treasured memory. H/T and kudos.
The LB asked me to join the group in May 1966 and I declined. But we became good friends and I worked with them over the years. The late 1960's was like a 24 hour never ending party.@@davidotness6199
