How One Small Change Affected ALL My Mealworms
I share how moving a single fan caused a 2-degree temperature drop in my mealworm farm and the insights it provided about maintaining optimal conditions.
Data from my sensors helped me identify the issue, but solving it required observing and understanding the environment.
I explain my airflow setup, including multiple fans strategically placed to maintain even air circulation throughout the farm.
This small change highlighted how critical proper air circulation is to maintaining stable temperatures for mealworm farming.
Regular monitoring and minor adjustments, like repositioning a fan, can make a big difference in maintaining optimal conditions for mealworms.

    Im super interested that the quality of the separation of sizes has improved using the machine compared with the previous sifting process. Why do you think that is?

    • @MidwestMealworms
      @MidwestMealworms 53 хвилини тому

      More sifting space. The sifting plates on the machine are 5 times or more bigger than the mesh I was using, and it shakes constantly.

    I really appreciate your content! Thank you! I recently started small scale production at home. I have a question, my beetles layed eggs and larvae hatched. They are too small to give them potatoes yet, but should I spray the bran with water from time to time to give them source of moisture? Or will they get it from the air? Greetings from Poland ❤

    • @MidwestMealworms
      @MidwestMealworms 8 годин тому

      I keep my environment at 50% humidity, I provide moisture to the baby trays once they are four weeks old. If you give it to them sooner, it may be helpful but they likely won't eat it all, you'll have a mold issue of you over indulge or you'll have cleanup during sifting. I'd try without moisture for the first 4 weeks and then see how your results / harvest looks.

    How much heat will they generate ? Compared to outside room temp . Interested to know inside the bedding and out please

    • @MidwestMealworms
      @MidwestMealworms День тому

      Depends on how many are in a tray, and what the ambient temp is. The more in a tray, the more heat generated. Larger mealworms produce more heat.

  • @thebluekombi

    When getting starting stock, how can you tell if it's going to be good? After a generation or 2? And re asses?

    • @MidwestMealworms
      @MidwestMealworms 2 дні тому

      No, usually takes much longer, and "good" is relative. I think as long as they look healthy and you can reproduce your own from them, that gives you a starting point. Then it's about managing the genetics to get the desired outcome you want.

    How do i find customers? You contact farmers? Specific people? Idea is very nice you build it from scratch mostly partime in the begin and now fulltime. To get even a bigger basis. I would like to make one aswell in my country its the netherlands. And ur business idea to make it known to all people is outstanding idea for good consistant healthy foods at the end line the feeding is very important. Im new so i will check out how i can start breed them into mealworms. Is it like a post bin like they do with worms and scraps from the green bin? Like food scraps

    • @MidwestMealworms
      @MidwestMealworms 2 дні тому

      Food scraps can work, mealworms don't eat fast so you'd end up sifting them out. For customers, you'll want to look for people feeding wild birds, folks with reptiles and poultry, they would benefit from mealworms.

    Confusing cause & effect is responsible for way more than we give it credit. It's like how doctors "treat" diabetes. Sugar in the blood is chased & mechanically lowered with alopathic petrochemical-derived drugs. Sugar, however, is a SYMPTOM and not a causative. The real problem is in a less-than-normal functioning pancreas! I asked my former VA doctor (right before I fired him), why he threw a used wound bandage into the medical waste bin instead of TREATING it. Deer in the headlights response. I had to explain to him that the bandage, not unlike blood sugar, was merely a symptom of my having a bandageable wound and not the cause of same. Cause & Effect . . . A tricky pathway to thread!
