Michael "Spike" Krouse/Madron Art Bar, Part 2 (S6E21)
Переглядів 5Місяць тому
Part 2 picks up where we left off in Part 1. Spike shares details of his West Coast road trip, the one where he shopped for a city to move to and possibly lay down roots. It was 1993 and, of all those West Coast cities, San Francisco won. "The energy, the feeling that you belonged, the creative draw," they all contributed to Spike's decision to move to The City. "This is where I wanted to be," ...

Michael "Spike" Krouse's arrival on this planet was something of a miracle for his parents. In this episode, get to know the founder of Madrone Art Bar (currently one of my favorite places in San Francisco). Spike's dad, a fighter pilot who flew missions in World War II, was much older than his mom. He flew for the Navy when the U.S. went to war with Korea as well. He ended up stationed in Alam...
The Anchor Brewing Union (S6 bonus)

Patrick Costello used to work at Anchor Brewing, where he was the production lead for the bottling and keg lines. He was also a member of the Anchor Brewing Union, where he served as a shop steward-essentially the union rep on the floor. Anchor's union was part of Local 6 of the ILWU. But Patrick wasn't exactly born into all of this. His mom and dad met at a house party in the Mission in the 19...

His dad was a famous drummer who got hooked on heroin while touring. When he returned home from the tour, the problems at home began. He started physically assaulting Z's mom. And so she packed up her thre...

Part 2 picks up right where we left off in Part 1, with Reem describing finding the anti-imperialist women's soccer team. Through that, she met her partner, who's now her co-parent. Reem worked in the nonprofit sector until around 2010, when she burned out. She'd moved to Oakland upon her return to the Bay Area, though she was still connected to The City through her work with AROC. She found he...
Tosha Stimage and Favianna Rodriguez of Superblooms and Ancestral Futurism (S6 bonus)
Переглядів 202 місяці тому
In 2022, the Presidio Trust asked Favianna Rodriguez to be an activator, as the trust was preparing to open its Tunnel Tops park. Favianna recommended that the folks building the park employ color and visual art to transform the space. They were supportive of her ideas. And with that, Ancestral Futurism was born. Favianna grew up in Oakland next to the 880 freeway, where she still lives today. ...

    If you want to read more about the history of the San Francisco Women's Centers/The Women's Building, take a look at Sushawn Robb, "Mothering the Movement: The Story of the San Francisco Women’s Building" (Denver, CO: Outskirts Press Inc, 2012) which is based on the archival collection held by the GLBT Historical Society. Robb was herself a member of the SFWC/WB collective from about 1981.

    What was that statement at the beginning all about? Feeling like a bit of a insurrectionist in this colonized land that can't be changed? Lazy podcasting with zero photos of the topic and boring dull voices, please, at least give your intended audience something to look at other than foul mouthed Courtney for a half an hour. No wonder SF is failing, all talk and no action.

    Hillary Ronen August 16, 2020 in her Twitter post- “I want to make it clear that I believe strongly in defunding the police and reducing the number of officers on our force.” Gee, now you’re asking for more police? What did you expect? You got mob rule and emboldened criminals, so I suggest you join the police force and patrol the streets yourself and earn that paycheck they we the taxpayers sign.

  • @kgm2182
    @kgm2182 Рік тому

    Hypocrite. She defunded the police and replaced them with social workers. Today she is whining for more police when her real issue is not enough social workers. LOL. Bleeding heart liberal airheads always do whatever "feels good" in the moment. Unfortunately for her an IQ is required to foresee future consequences of one's actions. She's just as dumb as she can be. Because of Hillary Ronen MY FORMATIVE YEARS involve structuring every day to avoid the homeless person who stabbed me which requires a different route that now includes human feces, drug needles and sometimes a body(aka another constituent who was completely sold out by Hillary and her ilk).

    This is a blessing to me. This family I feel is a gift from GOD. I believe this is how they sing in heaven and GOD has allowed us to experience of little bit of how it is there. I long to meet this family some day because they are absolutley down to earth and I pray that as they get better, Hollywood and fame will not destroy them because it can and sadly most times will. This family will always be in my prayers.
