    He was my ancestor and looks almost exactly like me and my father. I'm so sorry. I wish I hadn't gone digging into my family history. I'm like "damn dude, are you fckn serious?"

    Thank you Dr. Kristie for the wonderful information. But from my experience here in PNG as I'm a Papua New Guinea, my grand parents still wish that Australia should have stayed in PNG. The old generation in PNG before 1975 told stories to me that everything was managed better before than what it is today. But as you've said, we can work on where Australia left. That is the truth. I'm keen to hear more about your research into this space. Have been reading up the different tribes around Lake Tanganyika to see if there are any similarities with tribes around the lake to the Fijian language we know today. I guess this will be difficult with the nomadic nature of people in that region over time.

    Hi Dr. I Just finished watching this clip and I agree with your feedback. Today is the 46th anniversary independence of PNG and I want to ask you, do you think this Representative Democracy system of government is working in Papua New Guinea??

    • @DrKirstieCloseHistorian
      @DrKirstieCloseHistorian 3 роки тому

      Well that’s a good question - at the end it’s not for me to decide. There are some things that all governments struggle with. I guess it’s worth asking whether the government is working to and actually succeeding in bettering the lives of its citizens …

      Completely agree. There is a great chapter about him in Robert Nicole's book 'Disturbing History'. There's also a bit about him in my book 'A mission divided' - you can get that one online for free.
