Lockwood Air Cup Potato Planters & John Deere 9RX Tillage Tractor | Robison Farms- Roberts, ID
High quality Idaho potatoes start with precise and consistent planting. Watch as the Robison family starts the season off planting with 3 Lockwood Air cup planters. These machines use a high speed fan that creates suction on the cups as seed potatoes are picked up and then placed in the furrow. This method provides a very accurate and consistent stand which is essential for a quality crop. Ahead of the planters a John Deere 9RX tillage tractor pulls a chisel plow, incorporating the fertilizer and preparing the ground. Enjoy! The joy you get from your harvest is so inspiring
I always look forward to your videos They are so calming
Your garden is thriving, Cara! 🌱

You are so right. I flew ag planes in California for thirty five years before moving to Idaho for this job. In California, almost all the crops we sprayed were flown at night in the dark to protect honey bees and other pollinators. Fatigue was my biggest risk factor. I used to hold onto the cockpit roll cage structure over my head when ferrying from the airstrip to the field. If I nodded off (which happened to often) my hand would relax and fall to my lap waking me up. Unlike driving when tired, there are no rumble straps in the sky. That first bump would be a bad one...
Yes, a product called Panoramic. It keeps Cheat Grass seed from germinating.
Just finishing my 2024 season at age seventy five. Going for one more next year and that will be it. Probably :)
The young man who created this video used a photo drone and really did a fantastic job. Great editing and sound choice. I think he'll wind up directing in Hollywood someday.
I just stumbled onto your comment. How fascinating! I worked at Inland Aviation just after Neil Karmen took it over when Jeff Ried was killed in the Cessna 310 crash. Who is this? I might know you...
Shooting for one more season next year. I'll be seventy six. That's probably enough don't you think. Gonna be hard to quit for sure..
Thanks Linda. Hope you're doing well. Love you and your family!
Not sure who this is but thanks for the kind words.
Thank you for the kind words. Yes, in past times, most ag planes were powered by World War Two era radial aircraft engins and most of the noise was actually created by the propeller tips breaking the sound barrier. Today, most ag planes are powered by gas turbine engines (a jet engine that turns a propeller and burns kerosene) with three to five propeller blades turning at lower rpm's. They just whisper as they pass bye.
This duster is one of the coolest guys I've ever met! 75 my butt!! What an amazing pilot too! My husband and I are so tickled to have met you Eric!
Your hard work is paying off in such a beautiful way
You really outdid yourself with this video. It was amazing!
RC's put me out of business years ago.
damm... why french fries so expensive then?

Some potato seed not suck by the sucking pump what happened and this may account gap in whole field which lead to effect on average
Occasionally, seed will be knocked off of the cups because it is too large or not seated securely. Potato planters of all types have infrequent skips, but it won’t have a significant impact on the yield or quality of the whole field.
Oh Yeah... SPUD HARVEST.
There's just something therapeutic about harvesting potatoes!
Nice
I trained at Big Bend CC too and I worked at the Ephrata Airport pumping Av gas during the same time frame. I remember Bill Stout and the beast he flew every day. My start in aviation started when I was about the same age. The local crop duster would land on our lane while he was flying the farms around our house. I remember he picked me up and dropped me into the cockpit of his Stearman Biwing and it was like catching a disease. All I wanted to do was fly from that point on.
Impressive! Bravo!
Do you ever raise some SPUDS ?
Nice video. What are you spraying over that desert country , a pre emergent herbicide ? Seem pointless otherwise as nothing looked green .
" HMMM, I LIKE DEM FRENCH FRIED TATTERS. HMMM, "
ths for video.
I buy potatoes at the grocery store, some of your potatoes. But the recent commercial I saw on tv about Idaho potatoes, was shameful! Running down home gardeners because they choose to grow their own potatoes, that was downright mean and insulting!
To those that didn’t know John Deere was born in Vermont.
Jensens are some good people. I havent eorked for them since i work for my familys farm but weve been around them for a long while.
Delray sure would be proud of what the boys have done
nice footage. 👍🏾😎 thx Greetings from 🇩🇪
Thanks!
Beautiful pictures, especially with the nice backgrounds visible in your pictures. Greetings from the Netherlands
Thank you and thanks for watching!
Bir gün ben de yapacağım bu makinadan
Its cool but its just something else that fails in the second week of harvest and you fight for the rest of the machines life.
It doesn’t actually add much complexity to the machine, just a sensor eye to adjust the height of the conveyor loading the holding tank and the rest of the system is very simple. It made it through all of harvest this year, and should be easily maintained. We shall see though. Thanks for watching!
@@insideagriculture2971 it looks easy but we've had the same sensor on just and evenflow bin and it fails and once it fails the replacement parts never work right. We've had tech after tech work on it calibrate it works for a day and the next day it's back dropping the spuds like 3 feet or just flat not raising. We finally just shut it off and manually ran the boom.
@@prezzle208you have other issues. That machine ran all harvest with minimal issues. The holding tank never stopped the machine. Even testing different sensor types etc. to see how they performed. Not the same sensor as your even flow either.
Wish I was potato farmer I donate 10% my crops to food bank. All the potato on earth no one should be hungry.
Easy for you to say....Let us know when you have your own potato farm. we will wait😂😂😂😂😂😂
All that dropping into carts and then dropping in strorage ... Sure seems rough for produce but I don't notice it in my grocery store. They sure a hardy produce.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
They do quite a bit to minimize how far the drops are.
I rode a lockwood digger when i was 18,picking rocks!
Hi there , Do I sell your potatoes to Simplot in Idaho?
These potatoes are not sold to Simplot. You may find these in a grocery store or a restaurant soon!
That sure gets them outta the ground fast!
I remember those days well my father Herman Sargent built the first potato combine in the country I will try to get the movie so I can put it here on UA-cam
That’s so cool! I would love to see that!
If anybody at inside agriculture is reading this i recommend checking out some of the potato farms in grace Idaho. It’s down in southeast Idaho and we grow potatoes down here like nobody else. It’s truly amazing the way everybody in our community comes together to help out the farmers with the harvest.
Thanks! I am familiar with Grace, it is beautiful country with great people. I’ll see what I can do in the future. Thanks for watching!
Phil Benallie,
It doesn't get any better.
