Montreal snow removal - tow truck warning siren
Переглядів 54 тис.15 років тому
I just moved to the city, and when I first heard this at 8AM I thought my neighbor was ignoring their alarm clock. But apparently it is the warning siren telling people to move their cars for snow removal or else they will get towed.

    I hope the driver is allowed to wear ear plugs otherwise he will certainly go deaf.

    2020, this idiotic system still in use, 8am, 10pm, who cares. Do a warning, let people know before, if a car still here, just remove it or place from one side to another, then repeat. No, we will be using f** siren and maybe someone will come and remove a car, f** genius.

      Living in downtown Montreal high-rise. This is driving me nuts! I'm really getting aggressive here. Who the f*** came up with that? Seriously, where can we complain? This needs to stop.

    In our country of USA we don't get warned like this they just tow it if its parked by the sign when their hours is up I think depending on where your at.

      Like someone else said, for snow removal the tow truck guys are paid by the hour, so if they can get half the owners of the illegally parked cars to move them somewhere they are allowed to park it makes their jobs easier.

    If you're sitting inside your car we can't tow you,however we can give you a 52$ ticket relative to the parking infraction.65$ more if we tow.If you smartass drive away before I'm done I'll mail the ticket.

  • @MrRacoon222
    @MrRacoon222 11 років тому

    Montreal towing officer here.My job is to sit my lazy ass up to 24 hours in a tow truck and do the paperwork such as the ticket ( 117$ right now ) and the vehicle deplacement papers.We do give warning most of the time but when the machinery is behind our asses we don't.Tow truck driver don't get a penny more or less if they tow 1 car or 20,same thing for me.We can put the siren until 11pm.Even if you do show up before you car get towed you still can get a ticket if you have a shitty attitude.

    If I were woken up by this just one time, I'd seriously carry a BB gun or a Co2 pellet gun & blow out the scumbags side glass plus his passenger side mirror! That's just not right! That's not how we operate in NY

  • @farvennugen
    @farvennugen 11 років тому

    actually, you technically get a warning before then... since they put up the temporary "no parking between 17:00 to 7:00" signs (or 7 to 17:00) about 12 hours before said times...

    Sound like old siren on Minneapolis Police's older car with 2 red rotating lights and amber light in the middle. 2 bullhorn speakers on the bar near the rotating lights.

  • @coreysteele09
    @coreysteele09 12 років тому

    This horn shit makes me want to jump off the roof!!! What an annoying freaking noise. Too bad if people don't move their cars...I parked mine on Sherbrooke and saw the temporary No Parking signs that said no parking from 1900 to 700. I went out at 6:30 and moved my car to a spot where I could park. If no one else does that...then to damned bad. Why should the whole neighborhood suffer?? The first time they did this was like 3am to 5am was awake for the whole night!!!!!! FML!!!!

  • @Stratzyy7
    @Stratzyy7 12 років тому

    @Farricelli Sometimes they don't even blow the horns at all. Really irritates the hell out of me when they don't...

    @shzzztodanizz LMFAO that im assuming its a shell station. i almost blew up the rental truck ( teh 24ft box truck) there. had to buy a gallon of oil at a c-store = not cheap lol. Ohhhthank you for the reminiscing. all in all a pleasant trip

  • @Scambush
    @Scambush 13 років тому

    @shzzztodanizz Yeah, it was kind of funny but on that Saturday night back then me and a friend skipped town (Troy, New York) to drive north for the hell of it. Lo and behold, we ended up stopping in Montreal and then turned back for home. It's cool on the Autoroute you see a sign saying "160 km/h = 10 points" - I wonder what 10 points does to a Quebecers' drivers license?

  • @Scambush
    @Scambush 13 років тому

    @shzzztodanizz 222*16 = 3552 frames, so if each frame = 10 seconds that would be 35,520 seconds or 9.87 hours. Kind of hard to guess your travel time based on extrapolating 22 seconds of a known distance.

  • @shzzztodanizz
    @shzzztodanizz 13 років тому

    @Railer505 The video is 16 frames per second, and I took a picture every 10 seconds. I only paused the video when I stopped, so speed calculations should be unaffected.

  • @Scambush
    @Scambush 13 років тому

    I'm trying to figure out the time lapse ratio in this vid... it takes from 0:03 to 0:25 (22 s) to travel the 56.3 km from the middle of the bridge to the border (according to Google Maps). I'm guessing if you averaged a decent 120 km/h in that stretch you would come to 28.2 minutes for that stretch. 28.2 minutes/22 seconds = 76.7:1. So a length of 3:42 or 222 seconds, 76.1*222 = 17044 seconds or 4.73 hours. That's a little fast; I'm guessing you stopped and started the vid at some points.

  • @shzzztodanizz
    @shzzztodanizz 13 років тому

    @Railer505 some bonus points: 0:05 a ship stuck sideways in the seaway, 0:35 lost in Plattsburgh, 1:58 missed my turn to the Thruway

  • @Scambush
    @Scambush 13 років тому

    Lemme see how many locations in this vid I can identify: 0:03 Pont Champlain/A-15 exit, 0:21-0:22 Signs advising of customs booths 8.0/4.4 km, 0:25 Border (obvs), 0:41 Intersection b/w NY-190 and NY-3 in Plattsburgh, 0:47 Sign for Albany 153 Montreal 64, 1:12 Cell Phone service advisory, 1:54 Thadeus Cosciusko Bridge, 2:01 Getting on NYS Thruway at Exit 23, 2:57 A bridge that's in danger of collapsing (lol), 3:09 Major Deegan/Harlem River crossing I'll fill in more later when I think of them.

  • @shzzztodanizz
    @shzzztodanizz 13 років тому

    @Railer505 Yeap the signs for no cell service are still up. I checked my phone, and lo and behold I didn't have any service.

  • @Scambush
    @Scambush 13 років тому

    Very cool, thanks for posting. I pretty much drove the entire stretch from the beginning of this vid to about 1:55 (I go to college near Albany) in the wee hours of the morning back in 9/2008 (you can see my vids from Montreal and at the bar in Rouses Point, NY). Are the signs advising of no cell service for 64 miles on the Northway still up?

    @Coolsim450 I wonder, was there more compliance back when they had the special no-parking lights. The problem is, the city got a raw deal for powering them from HQ, so they replaced them with those clip on signs....that lots of people seem to treat as some kind of decoration. Meaning others get that alarm clock they don't want!

  • @shzzztodanizz
    @shzzztodanizz 13 років тому

    @Farricelli they will drive around as a warning an hour or so before, but as the plow gets closer to your street they will do one or two final passes where the truck stops at your car and turns on the siren. At that point you have about 15 minutes before you get towed.

    ok so I dont know much of whats going on over there....but been reading some comments and they talk of that this siren is a warning and so on. If I where the state city or wherever this is practised I would say just go out anybody not complying to rules town them away and then bill them. faster ,easier ,dead silent and job is done!

  • @Coolsim450

    I waoke to this sound at 7:30 this morning. I hate it but I mostly hate the people who let their car in the street knowing the usual time for snow removal. I have to pay the price for those fucking jerks when I don't even own a car. Sigh.
