2024 | The Year of Skip Barber I A Look Back on Skip Barber's Contribution to Motorsport
Skip Barber's contribution to motorsport will be celebrated tonight during a very special Competitors Dinner that will feature a panel of guests, Peter Cunningham, Bruce MacInnes and Dorsey Schroeder, who all give anecdotes about their time with Skip over the years.
This is the video that will be shown to introduce Skip. Since it is a closed event, we wanted to make sure everyone whose life has been touched by Skip, got to share in this moment. Join us at 7:15pm and leave a message for Skip in the chat and we will make sure he sees it!

Lime Rock Park is proud to declare 2024 as the Year of Skip Barber
“As Lime Rock Park celebrates its 67th year of operation, it does so with a deep sense of gratitude and reverence for the man whose vision and passion have left an indelible mark on this iconic racetrack,” said Lime Rock Park President Dicky Riegel. “His commitment to excellence and his relentless pursuit of innovation have earned him the respect and admiration of his peers and racing fans. The Year of Skip Barber is a fitting tribute to a man whose passion for motorsports knows no bounds.”
Born in Philadelphia in 1936, Skip Barber’s journey at Lime Rock Park began in 1959. He took his senior year off from Harvard in 1958 to join the Merchant Marines to save enough money to buy his first race car, a Bugeye Sprite. Back at Harvard a year later, he attended his SCCA driver’s school at Marlboro, near Washington DC, and raced his first race. That race was at Lime Rock Park, the first time he visited the track. Actually any track other than Marlboro. Little did he know that this would be the start of a remarkable career that would not only shape his own legacy but also transform Lime Rock Park into one of the premier racing destinations in the world.

You could have added text instead of waffling about the car, we just want to hear it
This looks amazing!
Track drive background music, for anyone interested, is A Positive Vision by Andy Clark.
Went to Monaco in 2012. Not to see the current race but to see the historic race of the old Grand Prix cars. It was fabulous to see and hear the old cars in each class run flat out on the circuit. A must see if you are an enthusiast of Grand Prix racing.
stop talking!
it was another wonderful race weekend at Lime Rock Historics. thank you to all that made it happen.. Kurt
great event, went there for the first time this weekend!
I was a Skip Barber school graduate, 1980 Sebring, thanks Skip!
This was Ferrari's first *flat 12*
👍
Maserati for ever
So many of us did Skippy school. So fun and so much to learn. Don’t use the sky as a background. Can’t see Anthony 😳 I’m curious why you did this video on a rainy day with no cars. Seems silly. Just trying to help. 🙏. Anyway good luck ! 👍
Nice interview. 👍🌟
Coolest of the Cool. 78 ! ❤ RIP, Icon. 👏👏👏❤️🫵🏻🙏
Lap time 😳 ?👏👏👏❤️
Sure miss this network
One of these days I'll scrounge up the cash to make it out there for a winter autox day... In my Tacoma, not my baby :)
Music & voiceover or a 1965 Form 1 Ferrari. Which would you rather hear? Really?
yeah, talk some more, "we wont talk." Thry this video, not too bad but not in car" ua-cam.com/video/vXsCbBxkr90/v-deo.html
52 seconds of music and commentary followed with 30 seconds of actual car sound... and then 11 seconds of music.... can we please focus on the car and keep the rest outside the amazing onboard footage..
Yipee
Two times smaller cylinders than in actual modern F1 V6 1.6 L (that is also very small)
"we don't wan't to talk over the V12", video's over.
Took me a minute to realize this wasn’t assetto corsa. Awesome vid!
Nice car, thanks for the video. But please Mr editor, less "camera switch". The car and sounds speak for itself.

Incredible car
truly incredible
The world needs the onboard for a full lap of the Ferrari with no commentary at all. thank you
One of my favorites, good actor, good man, good driver, nice to see him in a Vette to finish things off, I think he drove Nissons, most of the time.
Way cool!
When ze Germans show up and show you how poorly you have designed your vehicle 🚗 😂
Thank you for the improvements to the facilities and hosting more events than ever over the last year. The park is in good hands!
How cool!!! Limerock Park is STILL awesome!!
I need you to close your eyes an imagine. You’re driving the 88 cutlass at Lime Rock and are battling to get your position back. All is going well and you hear it, the sound that you’ve dreaded all year long. The high pitched tweeting of the Audi Quattro.
RV was in the wrong! The truck was passing the other truck before the RV ever appeared in the frame. There wasn't enough room for an old van to get through there much less a big old RV. Do stupid stuff. Get stupid rewards!
Imsa 24 hours of daytona 1988 please thank you
thanks for uploading! been watching a bunch of old 80's and 90's TA and IMSA GTO/GTU races lately. a few years ago i saw the Cougar XR7 in a racing game and fell in love with it, but only recently started getting really deep into this amazing era of racing. It boggles my mind how many different makes and models competed in those series, and each one as gorgeous in looks and sound as the others. I'm glad the current TA2 Trans Am class is trying to recapture the old TA magic, but i wish we could see some really wild stuff like AMG or Aston Martin since they also have V8 racecars in GT3. it'd just be nice to see european cars taking on North American sensibilities in road racing like they did for the glory days of IMSA and Trans Am sportscar racing. cheers!
Europe killed GTE, LMP, DTM. European green boys are not interested in performance racing. Now we have a fucking GT3. It's so slow...
Excellent, thanks
Pruitt saying he is surprised the Audi driver Walter Röhrl is as good as he is and as fast and how he caught on to road racing so fast ..... Walter Röhrl is a bloody racing legend , as is Hans-Joachim Stuck ....... two of the best drivers in racing history ...... both race on the world stage , not their own backyard .....
20:13 Interesting to see them running some version of the Pinto SOHC engine in the Merkur XR4Ti, while in the European and Australian Touring Car Championship, the sister car to the Merkur XR4Ti, the Ford Sierra Cosworth, was running a Cosworth YB engine with DOHC and 16 valves. This was allowed because Ford had built 5000 Sierra Cosworths and another 500 of the RS500 model with the big turbo. I'm guessing this wasn't allowed in Trans Am, although for some reason a Merkur XR4Ti V8 was fine.
SCCA trying to protect their US made cars from the superior Audi. Audi sitll won the series and drivers championship resulting banning the Audi 200 from the Trans Am.
Yankees with their superiority complex most likely found their prides hurt big time.
SCCA showed how salty they are about something els then V8 and rwd.
Have you forgotten how Porsche protested against AAGT? Have you forgotten how Ford was banned in Germany? Have you forgotten how scca banned C4? Have you forgotten how Porsche bought 2 C4s? Have you forgotten how ZR1 and Mosler got +500lbs? Do you know that Porsches also participated in trans am and they are much worse? You know, if the last stages of IMSA and Trans Am didn't cross, then Scott Pruett would be the champion (if he crossed the line). Are you saying that the Americans are bad and banned AWD in Trans Am? Do you know how many AWD cars have been approved by the FIA? Actualy you haven't forgotten, you don't know about it.
I've heard so many people complain about how the FIA allegedly changed the rules to ban the Ford GT40 from Le Mans, when they actually ran from 1964-1969 with four straight wins from 1966-1969. Here they changed to rules during the season and ban Audi from coming back for a second season.
Fantastic! Ah, to be alive during the golden age of sports cars. I was born too late, in time to see the 'government' destroy it.
they are " dead even..." . Sure, when you put some hundred pounds, a smaler air restricter and smaler tires on the Audi ;-)
the Audi was down 100hps but able to win bcs of less tyrewear
That's an 8 million dollar Full Factory ex-Group B Audi car/tech budget racing against $80,000 dollar rwd Camaros that Americans build literally in their garages. It puts the US in perspective if you actually know what's going on. It takes a massive European effort to run with basic American rednecks and that's just the truth.
Its difficult to mention another race car that came storming and dominated a series like the Audi did. There are other examples but kinda rare to have weight be added to your car almost every week
Yeah they were punished for doing so well in a great car. Plus 200lb... I'm not suprised he described the car as driving like a truck
The Roush Merkur XR4I'S, won every race bar one, the previous year. They had weight added to their cars for the 88 season. So there is a precedent there. The Roush team picked a South African version of the XR4I to get around the rules for their No.1 driver Scott Pruitt the same year.
I'm very excited to hear about the future plans for LRP! Can't wait for racing season to begin. Already have my camping tickets...
Excited for what’s in store at LRP!
Hands down my favorite track. Not just the grounds and track but the people. Love it there.
It would be wise to move the race up tomorrow but we know that won't happen.
Looking forward to it!
