About the Warship: The largest aircraft carrier of World War II and the largest warship sunk by a submarine. Initially, she was built as the third Yamato-class battleship, but after the defeat at Midway, the Japanese High Command decided to complete Shinano as an aircraft carrier. Torpedoes from U.S. submarine Archerfish sank her on November 29, 1944, during her first trip out to sea following her formal commission into service.
