Imagine how the insurance agent feels. They've waited a whole year for that letter, spilling some of their tea upon the package's arrival, the story of the Obra Dinn has left a mark on their life. The insurance assessment that preceded helped convert the passage of time to the player, now we too can feel the emotional impact of finally getting to revisit the story we've grown so fond of, like meeting an old friend. Not using a violin would've been a crime.

I think this js my favourite song in the OST for 2 reasons 1) The way the song is set up to introduce the chapter is so perfect. You find a body that is weirdly tucked into a corner. You briefly investigate around him, maybe try and go to the main deck. You are blocked. By the time you decide to peak through the holes it just around where the bells become much louder and clearer. And you see the Crab Monsters attacking everyone in the ship. It puts the scene in a completely new context and the player quickly discards all they have gathered thus far to try and understand what's before them. Right when the bells change their style and becomr louder, more frantic as you quickly take in more information that what is possible. 2) Viewed as how it narratively relates to the chapter. The music starts kinda muffled, with loud crashes being heard. This is this represents the sound of distant thunder. Then the kinda distance and echoey bells, a distant far danger approaching. Then the strings to show the danger on the boat deck itself. There's some cause for concern in the lower decks and they start to investigate. Before the crab monsters go below deck and now everyone is aware and to action. These is represented by the crescendo of all the instruments the song play with no muffle of echo, no distance, it's right in front of you. I also wanted to add to the comments talking about how heroic it sounds, there is no desperate terror in the music. It feels like it shows how the ship's passengers were fully able to keep this under control, they were fighting back and winning. The chapter is full of bravery, the carpenter not fearing the spider and charging straight at it, the assistant carpenter being the one to take down one crab while a midshipman does the same to help kill another. These are good honest people who try to fight together to save each other. These men don't tempt fate or act immorally to deserve this as divine punishment. I fucking love this game

Because one man asks if O'Hagen is still breathing, which implies to me whoever O'Hagen is in the memory is someone who has a spear in them but not in a place that would cause immediate death...
