A Day in my International Friendship 🌎🤝
Переглядів 49День тому
In this video, I capture a day hanging out with my Chinese friend Rick, a designer and guitar player I met while living in Shenzhen, China. I don’t know if many people will really watch this, but I definitely enjoyed making it. And I suppose that’s what matters most at the end of the day. Rick is in the process of releasing his songs on Apple Music. I’ll drop the links once that’s done. Rick’s ...

This is all pretty new to me still but I think I’m getting a sense of my approach and style to these vlogs. But do leave your feedback, I’d love to hear your thoughts as well! Hope you enjoy

This is a feeling that’s been building for many, many years, and a video I’ve been afraid to make for a while. Fearful of all the judgment, hate, and criticism that might come with it. Which maybe will come, maybe it won’t. But the time to let fear control me is over. It’s time for a new chapter in my life. Welcome aboard.

    You have this figured out at a very young age. Most people dont get to this point until very late in life and sometimes never. I'm at it right now and I'm 56. I'm close to selling my house and moving to another country. You only have one life for you to experience many different places, people, and cultures. I think most people lead very mundane lives. I never want to stay living in one place for more than a few years. I don't want to see the same stores, traffic, buildings, etc. You will gain a lot lf wisdom on this path you are on that many others will never.

    Just a tip about mosquitoes...mosquitoes hate the aroma of coconut oil. You can use coconut oil as a body lotion, or just rub it onto small areas of different parts of your body and it will work just as fine. Rub it on your shins, thighs, belly button area, your lower back, back of your neck, ears, and this will keep mosquitoes away. Coconut oil kills mosquitoes too. Coconut oil also repels and kills ticks and fleas so it's excellent for your pets. Lather the base of their necks and the base of their tails with the oil to protect them. A-once-a-week application is good enough to protect them. It should be applied like this indefinitely if you want to keep your pets free from pests for the rest of their lives.

      @@ASteppingStone A la orden, hermanito! And one more thing I forgot to mention. Make sure the oil is non-refined. Refined oils have been so heavily processed that they no longer have their natural aromas. Non-refined oils still have their strong aromas and again, it's the aroma from the coconut oil that repels the pests. Nancy

    He is referring to Bill Clinton (克林顿), whose presidency (1997-2001) was a significant time for China, he minimizing import tariffs with China, increase trade, and his role in securing China's path to WTO membership (which officially happened in 2001). Clinton became very famous in China since then. By the way, you should learn how to bargain with small vendors. That small turtle usually costs 30 RMB or less

    • @ASteppingStone
      @ASteppingStone 4 дні тому

      Ahh thanks for the context! I did realize he meant Clinton and was listing presidents later that day, but I wanted to subtitle it true to my experience in the moment haha. And yeah, I’ve gotten better at bargaining prices down but I’ve realized that i’m still paying way over priced for things 😂. That’l show in the next video .. 😅

      I’m not sure, and was very curious to find out. Just did some light research and it seems it’s a Buddhist practice called “fangshen”, or “life release”; In which you release captive animals back into the wild as a form of gaining spiritual merit. Seems it’s on the decline in recent years due to ethical and ecological concerns

    As a white, born and raised American man, I'm done with the BS rat race that never ends and never actually leads anywhere except needing "MORE and MORE" 24/7. I'm moving to Vietnam in March and never looking back. I've been in a few industries, but mostly sales. Most I've ever made was $140k, but I've seen coworkers pull double that and guess what? They're still unhappy. It's a joke. I applaud you on making a move. I think most people let their "fear of failure, manifest into complacency."

    First Gen Honduran here with a higher than average for a Honduran intelligence. And MAN. I feel felt every second of this man. I too was well rounded in highschool and was successful in critical and creative thinking. Until adulthood hit and my genius HAD to generate profit. That’s when the bullys and mean people from highschool that always felt they had a better sense of “reality” than me because they were aspiring to pursue careers deemed “reasonable” and actually useful to create power and money. See that’s the issue brother. Everybody in America is looking at ways to cheat the system to get rich THEN enjoy life generating wealth on the destruction of our planet and fellow humans. People like me, you and outsiders of America can see it.

    • @ASteppingStone

      So awesome to hear that you resonated man, thank you. And so it is man - the incentives are all fucked up. Money, cars, houses, sex, drugs - none of that shit will bring fulfillment or happiness. Of course, some amount of financial security is helpful and healthy, but there’s a limit. As first generation Americans, I think we often look to our parents and their circumstances. Many of them succeeded in bringing the stability and comfort that they desired for them and for us, their children. But once we’re here, being born in the US, I feel we’re basically spawning into the world at most of humanity’s desired end point. Most of the world is living in far worse standards of living then in the US. Many people look to escape poverty when they come here. But once you’d made it, once you’re stable and comfortable, what’s next? What do we do with our lives? When do we stop seeking more and more material gain? In my opinion, we need a limit. And we need to set one ourselves. The amount of wealth some have is absolutely absurd, and completely unnecessary. Money is often no longer freedom, but bondage. Curious what career path you went into my friend. Wishing you the best in finding your own way. At the end of the day, that’s what matters. We can’t lead others if we can’t lead ourselves. Cheers

      @@ASteppingStonehey man so. I’m actually getting into social work man. I ended up going to prison while I was attending college and when I got out went through a reformation program for youths called “ Los Angeles conservation core” and they linked me with this non profit that deals with fuck ups with potential like me. So I’m currently getting more and more licensing to add to my social work licenses I already have to be a “peer support specialist” which basically helps minority groups who are underdeveloped socially and skill wise. Before I went to prison I was very involved in academics and acquired a good amount of skills so when I got out it was easier for me to get it together even though I was homeless. Now I want to be able to teach all the broken POC how to hunt bare minimum to be able to be self reliant.

      Haha I like the analogy man, thanks for commenting. The sad part is it seems the phenomenon of working ourselves to death goes beyond just the US. Many people in China, Korea, Japan etc seem to have similar issues. Idk how global of a problem it is, but I do feel people all over the world need to refocus themselves on what truly matters. My 2 cents. There’s of course so much more than just toxic work culture that’s wreaking havoc on men. HealthyGamer.gg/Dr. K talks a lot about those issues if that’s of interest to anyone. He’s a stellar mental health resource Best of luck out there
