    I remember Spats Bear did something similar with a Lasko 3733 that Emerson Collie beated the crap out of, he bypassed the thermal fuse and ran it, but plugged into a 220v outlet. Your best bet is Facebook Marketplace depending on where you are located. Also, when I looked at the thumbnail, I was briefly convinced that the fan as-is was a legitimate model by Lasko. You did well with the venturi apparatus. The modern weather-shield blade compared to the recalled blade differs in pitch. The modern one is slightly less pitch but it is still okay. It was enough to convince me for a short period of time that both blade sets were the same. They actually were not.

    I now am in possession of a recalled motor (as you probably know from watching my video of it). On my recalled motor (it is an **actual** recalled motor from 2000-01 and also not saying yours isn't recalled but mine is just older and "better") the iron core is as thick as modern WeatherShield motors IIRC. I don't know if that's true though. Mine has a 4uF capacitor. Mine has the same amount of copper visually compared to yours. The Hungder motor is quite inferior. A motor from a 3733 from 2005-06 is not as powerful as a recalled motor. I know this because I had bought a 2005-06 3733 and it had thinner blades. If I put a recalled blade on it, the motor would perform slower. No, the 2005-06 motor was not involved in the recall because it was paired with a Blue Plug. On my recalled motor the wire comes out the back of the motor as opposed to the side, and the recalled motor is mounted in the back as opposed to mounting on the front of the "insulation ring".

    • @Fanscarsetc
      @Fanscarsetc Місяць тому

      I never said the 3733 motor is as powerful as the recalled motor, all i said was it’s probably the same motor but evolved to be less powerful. The very first recalled motors did appear to have a much bigger stator tho so you’re probably right. I’m very curious to why mine uses a 5uf as opposed to the typical 4uf capacitors. I have noticed mine runs unusually fast on low speed for a weather shield fan and idk if it’s due to the larger capacitor or if the blade is flimsier. My weather shield motor is probably recalled the winding look the same as the other recalled motors but it used the modern motor housing.

    Why were they recalled

    • @sccpsteve
      @sccpsteve Місяць тому

      There are several possibilities: A) because it has no fused plug and that B) the motor has rubout points - in my recalled motor, I saw a few points of the insulation inside of the motor were flattened and close to wearing through, and C) dust buildup = overheating.

    I believe Lasko may have started phasing in some new molds for new blades. The inner text has the Arial Rounded font on the glossier variant (which oddly has slightly more blade pitch, cool!) and a different font on the matte variant with less blade pitch than the glossier blades. I know this because I bought an Air King 9733 (which obviously has the 3733 blades), it had the glossy blade set with more pitch, and compared it on a huddled winding 3733 motor to a standard less pitched 3733 blade. They were slightly different in sound but look the same pitch-wise. It's nowhere near the weather-shield though.

    • @Fanscarsetc
      @Fanscarsetc Місяць тому

      Speaking of the weather shields, i’ve noticed the older ones have a wider, more flower petal shape than the newer ones like mine which have a narrower diamond shape. Idk if the older ones move more air than the newer ones cause i haven’t tested an older weather shield yet, but i imagine they move much more air. I have noticed the glossier blade seems to be quieter and spins slower than the other blades, and spinning at the same rpm as other blades it moves a bit more air. The new blade molds will probably be a lot better than the current ones.

    Typically, these tuna cylinder motors come with plenty of lubrication from the factory, with minimal exceptions. Same goes with the tuna square motors. Therefore adding zoom spout will cause problems as you probably added more than 6 drops on the front/rear bearings. AFAIK there will not be a problem with the windings coming into contact with zoom spout.

    • @Fanscarsetc

      Jordan is the one who advocates for motor lubrication but the newer motors don’t come with much oil if any at all. The older ‘huddled winding’ psc motors, like this one in the video seem to come with good lubrication but some of the new ones i’ve found to be bone dry. I have this box fan. Very poor air flow. I just bought the Lasko pedestal fan. There are two versions. The 16 inch 3 blade and the 18 inch 5 blade. I paid a little more and went with the 18 inch. Its a good fan with super good air flow that can be felt from a distance. That's my recomendation.

      @@nickv4073 my recommendation would be to either look for an older weathershield or Venturi grille box fan with the older 1.1 amp psc motor. Those are some of the best cheaper fans ever made

    The weaker motor is older; it has a drifted capacitor. I assure you that with the proper 4 uF, that motor will outperform the other one. How do I know? While mine is a Promotor, the age is the same. What, with the small rotor on mine. I changed out the capacitor with an identical one with same rating and now it outperforms all other tuna can motors in my house, but only slightly!

    • @Fanscarsetc
      @Fanscarsetc 2 місяці тому

      This was filmed a while ago i had just ported it on my channel so i don’t remember how it exactly performed but it was similar performance to today’s tuna-can motors. I don’t think it was the capacitor because it had noticeably less copper than my promotor variant from 2005 while this motor was probably from 2006-07. the unbranded motor is dated 2009 and performs identical to the “glory” variant from 2009. There seems to be 2 versions of the promotors, the early versions and the newer versions used up from like 2010-2013 with the larger rotor. same goes for the supreme motor.

    The yellowing is probably due to plastic contamination at the factory. Also lasko is cheap so it's no surprise that it has cosmetic issues. The new square motors are kind of junk but they still do the job. 77 watts is not bad for a square motor. Ew, cophaco caught on to the square trend?? Wow, Lasko is going downhill.

    • @Fanscarsetc
      @Fanscarsetc 2 місяці тому

      I figured it must have been an issue with the plastic from the factory. I would say ever since 2013 the only decent motors have been the “sagitta” motors or the weathershield/power plus type motors all the other ones suck. I used to have a b20200 that had the original “cophaco” motor that was the traditional shaped motor but now they use a smaller square design.

    I did the exact same thing where I put a 4uF capacitor onto a 6uF weathershield motor and that slowed it down enough to be reasonable but spins as fast as a lakewood 101A. Agreed, the lasko tower switches are junk! I replace it with a 7 dollar 2pack of switches on amazon with the brand "Taiss" manufactured by "Ushun". 8uF capacitors always come from Sagittas. That one is from a sagitta judging by the fact it says "["SG" Lot # whatever]"
