Taking Part in Autism Research Projects
Переглядів 736 років тому
As we have an autistic son, our daughter Beth who is currently six months old is taking part in autism research projects for The University of Kent as well as The University of Cambridge. Beth is considered to be in a high-risk group for having/developing autism and as an infant that makes her an ideal candidate for taking part in research on autism. You can find out more about me here: Parenti...
Getting an EHCP
Переглядів 6 тис.6 років тому
I talk about getting an EHCP for William who has autism and does not cope in a mainstream school. It was a very long process for us and quite stressful too. I thought it might help other parents if I tell everyone how getting an EHCP panned out for us. It took around a year in all to get the EHCP finalized and it was a very bumpy road to it. If you have any questions please add them to the comm...
Nervous About Autism Stigma
Переглядів 3746 років тому
I discuss how I am feeling nervous about autism stigma on UA-cam. I have found it difficult to sit down and start talking about autism and how it impacts our family because there is still a lot of stigma surrounding being a parent of an autistic child and I wanted to talk about how it's holding me back from making content about it. If you experience the same kind of stereotyping I have discusse...
Paid for Breastfeeding?
Переглядів 7546 років тому
Should mothers be paid for breastfeeding? Today I'm talking about my thoughts on the study that pays mothers to breastfeed their babies. Sheffield University in England conducted a study in which mothers receive payment for breastfeeding their babies. The payment was in the form of vouchers received at intervals if mothers were still breastfeeding their babies at those times up to six months ol...

Here I review the Bambino Miosolo all in one, pocket cloth nappy (Cloth Diaper). The Bambino Mio Brand is currently the most popular cloth nappy brand in England as far as I can tell. One thing I forgot to mention in the video is that the mio solo nappies are BTP (Birth to Potty) and adjust using poppers. If you wish to order them online you will find them on amazon here: www.amazon.co.uk/gp/pr...

How To Put On A Cloth Nappy (Cloth Diaper)
Переглядів 8 тис.6 років тому
In this video I show you how to put on an all in one cloth nappy (all in one cloth diaper). This is my guide on how to put a cloth nappy on and is open to change and suggestions. You may develop your own techniques as you become more experienced and find what suits your own baby. Cloth nappies (cloth diapers) are often described as bulky but by pinching them in at the middle the bulk can be avo...

    Thanks for sharing your experience. My son is in the same situation now, being home tutored, but has been out of school for 8 months since we moved out of Essex. EHC plan just came through last week and it's basically a copy and paste of his first EHC 6 years ago. We are in the process of appealing the council's decision to send him to a mainstream school. He was in a special needs school before we moved. Seems we are always having to fight for our kids.

    This is the fear for my son. Our LA refused to do an assessment for EHCP for my son with mild autism, dyspraxia and many other little health conditions. The school SENCo have been amazing all the way through. We’ve just had the decision to assess overturned. He we are on Feb he leaves primary this year and I’m so scared he won’t get a decent school for September. Fingers crossed for all those who are going through this scary process ❤️ and hope your son found a lovely school

    My son is 18 now.. been trying to get help for him since he was 6. ended up home schooling til he was 13, put him back into school as advised by child services thinking he would intergrate . 8 months of hell and nearly suicide later i had to pull him again. Then tried college one year then the next then the next. Each time to this day he has tried and tried and the schools and council have failed him every time. He has chronic fatigue painful joints and asbergers. This year im trying legal action if the college and agencies continue with the neglect. Believe me I didnt think I had any fight left in me but I have. Even tho I now have developed the same illness and cannot do basic duties on a daily basis anymore.

    Im just starting this journey EHCP trying to get one in place before primary next year... you vid was helpful as I too felt that the nursery were overselling his abilities, and that i will need to over emphasise his weaknesses but now i think i need to do more research. I believe he needs 121 in lessons and lunch times not at playtimes. I guess councils are thinking from a cost standpoint and so if a child is close to able then no ehcp which is my worry. Anyway thanks for th3 video

    What a stressful journey you have been on, it serves to highlight how so many children are being failed by the systems set up to deal with their needs. If the tables were turned and it was you who was not providing your child with an education, you would have been in court by now. Such a shame that a child who already struggles in the education system is being failed and set back even further. I wish both you and William every success on this journey. Keep on fighting, with your determination to get him the education he needs I'm sure you will get there in the end.

    Thank you for making this video, it's really important to see how the stigma affects the family as well as those dealing with it themselves. Please continue to make these videos, it will help other people to become more aware, to realise they aren't the only one who feel that way and to eventually beat this and other stigma.

  • @jennyellen2606
    @jennyellen2606 6 років тому

    I'm not sure paying mothers is the answer. Mothers on low incomes claiming benefit top ups really wouldn't benefit as the government gives in one hand and takes away with the other. This would need addressing as without that a two tear system would develop as the only ones benefiting will be the middle and upper classes. Breast feeding mothers already save as they don't buy formula should that not be incentive enough. I also think numbers of mothers breastfeeding will not increase significantly until mothers have a major change in lifestyle. The demands put on mothers makes life for most busy, many mums have to return to work early because it is necessary. They are not present to Brest feed. Until major changes happen that enable there's mothers to have the option to stay home and feed or take baby with them to work these mothers will be excluded. Seems to me the only ones that would benefit from being paid are a small number who's lifestyle allows them to. There are so many problems to overcome to make it a fare system I personally can't see how a payment system could be fare to all. This is something you highlighted yourself with mothers who can't Brest feed. I feel this is a much bigger problem that perhaps you have considered.

    • @LissiGeorgiana
      @LissiGeorgiana 6 років тому

      Old Book End it is indeed a much bigger problem than I have highlighted here. Highly multifaceted and more complex than I’m able to understand I’m sure and certainly more than I can cover in a short video. An interesting discussion topic though. Thank you for your comments. I’m always open to hearing your views and gaining a different perspective beyond that of my own. X
