    So tempting with the colours available but I have had so many that are broken on arrival (packed well from Jacksons) and that break when sharpening even with a blade as you say. I also have many that are REALLY scratchy and not usable, like more than one in ten. Disappointing especially at such a high price. The sticks are as bad or worse.

      That's sad to hear, I'm sorry. They cost a lot of money indeed, so you would expect the quality to be excellent and nothing less. However I've heard more of these stories in the past, so I can totally understand why someone just wouldn't want to spend the money.

      @@TinaBaeyensArt Merci :) là j'ai commencé en attendant un dessin sur le papier Canson demi teinte normal (pas le touch) et c'est vrai que ça n'accroche pas des masses (en plus j'ai un peu gâché le dessin car le fixatif a fait quelques gouttelettes dessus🙄). Mais je suis assez contente de parvenir à trouver les couleurs et les tons pour le portrait. Au final comme j'ai beaucoup pratiqué la peinture ça m'aide beaucoup. Il y a des points plus difficiles que la peinture acrylique et d'autres plus simples : la difficulté d'utiliser des bâtonnets, de fusionner les couleurs mais l'avantage de ne pas avoir de peinture qui sèche trop vite dans une palette et sur la toile et de rechercher à refaire la même couleur ensuite !

    Tina, you are so talented and a great teacher. I am more into abstract landscape and flowers, I am new to pastel pencils. I bought Caran d Ache Luminance colored pencils. I was so disappointed. Perhaps I was working on a wrong paper. I can at least use a few Stabilo pastel pencils, to do a sketch, on a regular paper, or watercolor paper or on acrylic paper. As I understand you, pastel pencils are easy to put a color on a paper and the Stabilo brand is watersoulable too. Thank you so much for sharing. Art supplies buying is like a jungle.

    • @TinaBaeyensArt
      @TinaBaeyensArt Рік тому

      Hi Helga! First of all, thank you very much😊 The caran d ache pencils are definitely good, but not so easy to layer on top of eachother since they are very soft. To my experience, the paper makes all the difference though, so don't give up on them yet until you've tried them on pastelmat paper by ClaireFontaine😉 I've never tried water with my pastel pencils, so on that I cannot really give a good answer, though I've seen other artist try it. It really is a jungle to find the best supplies that suit you! 😅 I would recommend starting with the first building block, which is the paper.. so really give pastelmat a try, it's expensive but very much worth it!😋 Most importantly, have fun experimenting!🧡

I am starting to have a negative opinion on the Caran d Ache brand (I should have bought the pastel pencils set). This Brand is overrated and to expensive. @@helgaleifsdottir5191 Hi Helga, that's really great to hear, thank you so much!🥰 As for your question, I'm sorry but I must have misread the first comment! I thought you bought the caran d ache pastel pencils😅 which are great, don't get me wrong, but not my favorite at all since I share your opinion that they're very overpriced. For the luminance colored pencils, I wouldn't try them on pastelmat, since the paper will eat away your (very expensive) pencils in no-time! I'm sorry I misread the first time. If you want to try pastel pencils, my go-to brands are the stabilo carbothellos and the faber castell Pitt pastel pencils. And ofcourse, the pastelmat paper. But I would not recommend using regular colored pencils on the pastelmat paper, you can (I've seen artists create beautiful stuff with them on this paper), but it will eat away A LOT of your pencils.. Hi! Well I've only tried colored pencils over soft pastels, so I can only speak for that. But I can happily say that there's no problem with colored pencils over soft pastels. Brands do matter, but not as much as you would think. For the pastels I've used Stabilo Carbothello, which are not expensive but great. As for the coloured pencils, I've used poluchromos by Faber Castell, which ARE expensive but also really good. For this video, I've used the brands I use for commissions, so I know they are great, no matter the price. In conclusion: the coloured pencil are the more professional ones compared to the pastels used for this video, so it's not always just about the brands or price😋

Mas por ser muito macio a ponta desgasta facilmente, preferindo eu usar os lápis Gioconda pra isso por serem mais duros. I am curious to know if you would have a tutorial of soft pastels too, not the pencils, the sticks, for covering large area and e.t.c. What kind of pastel pencils brand would you recommend for impressionist, expressionist artwork, landscape and floral, if I may ask. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge ! I like to buy the Stabilos ore some softer affordable Also I think it is a good idea to buy 12 or 24 pencil set, and then buy each pencil, one at a time, , for the colors that I love, if I fall in love with the soft pastel pencils. And a big bonus, for the Stabilo pencils, the are water soulable also, so I can get watercolor pencils too ! Thanhs again Tina.

      @@mickeygascoyne2243 Hey Mickey, you can definitely email me, no problem😁 the reason is just a change of career which leaves me no time to record and edit videos anymore, so it's been a good change for me, just not so good for my youtube career😋 my email is tititjuh@hotmail.com by the way😉

    Can I still get gd definitionan and precision with pastels x I have only used polychromos and want something less heavy to press down as got poorly hands many thanks

      @TinaBaeyensArt Рік тому

      You definitely can! Just need some practice, and maybe some harder pastel pencils. So I would recommend the Pitt pastels by faber castell 😉 You can buy those open stock as well, so you can try it out without having to buy a whole set! Also, try them on pastelmat paper by clairefontaine , the paper REALLY makes a difference😉 Have fun!😁

    Hi there, recently heard of a great hack. Canvas frame of the size you need, turn it upside down where it gives you the spaces. Glue dividers into the spaces per color or what’s easiest for you. Talking with my husband, he said he would make me a lid to cover with piano hinges attached to the frame, then simply cover and fold up to the wall. Pull down when needed. Of course, then he decided he could then put legs that fold out and make a table as well….hahaha, oh the many choices when many minds are put to test in small spaces 😂. Thank you for your post…I bought a box to start, similar to yours but the darn fat Terry Ludwig pastels wouldn’t fit…ugh

      Sounds like you and your husband make a great team!😃👌 if the pastels don't fit the box, make a new box😋👊 good luck with the construction and most of all, buy lots of pastels to fill it (but maybe don't tell your husband I told you to 🤣)
