Amazing, is the illustration on the right side of the screen meant to indicate mic position and direction? Or is it just a big tease as he was so secretive about his mic techniques?
Umm, the arrow indicates the way the camera is facing on the photos on the left… I believe the part about him being secretive about his mic techniques is just legend, for the most part. There is no evidence he actually hid his mics or anything like that.
I have obviously heard the music, and also seen most of the photos before, kind of crazy to think so much came out this “family room”. So much jazz history!

Unbelievably, the tune here runs with a higher pitch compared to the same recording on vinyl (check ua-cam.com/video/2nG9WcpHa4U/v-deo.html )
it's totally believable and "normal" phenomen. If the original recording was recorded on a normal movie-camera, it run at 24 picture/second speed -and tha traditional projector-speed in the cinemas was the same -all right. But if the filmmaterial gets in TV-studio enviroment, they have a playback-speed at 25/sec, also a little bit faster. (the difference is small, so we don't realize that evrybody moves faster in the screen...and if they make further copies on other media, this difference will insist). So the soundtrack on it runs also faster, with a result of a highes pitch, a difference is almost a semi-tone higher. If you watch any old film on TV-programm, you can hear this as well.

This is precious footage. I am tired of the same old interview, made years later, of Rudy being uploaded over and over. This is from back in the day. I've also never seen a clip of Jimmy Smith talking. The other guy is Creed Taylor (he of the hair parting), so this is a Verve date. Thanks for the upload. Do you have any more of Rudy at work?

His later studio, still standing, was about a 1/4 mile from where I grew up. I always wondered what the building was, but didn't find out until about 45 years later, accidentally.
