Zelda Themed Shield Clock
Today we are looking at a Legend of Zelda themed shield clock I made for my science classroom. The clockworks are based on a late 1800’s Black Forest shield clock. This old clock was missing parts and I didn’t like the floral dial. Also, being a quarter striking movement I definitely couldn’t have a weight on the strike train as it would be class distraction. On the scale of 1 to 10 for difficulty & time I would rate it at a 5. It was a fun build but took months to complete with my busy schedule.
This clock features the following:
Wood Hyrulian shield
Korok pendulum bob
Quartz rock weight
Gold leafed letter Z for the adjacent chain hook
The brass hands are original and I made side doors with acrylic glass so students can see the clock works. I think its going to be epic. Let me know in the comments if you like this sort of thing. Also, what are your favorite Zelda games?
Thanks for watching!

French Statue Clock Part 3: Applying Gold Leaf

Welcome back to the French Clock I’ve been restoring. This is video 3 in the series. It is my first time ever applying gold leaf. I think it went okay but applying it to the statue was very difficult for me. There were a lot of odd shapes and indentions which made it hard to wrap the gold leaf around as it is very brittle. If I do another statue I’m considering a different product called rub n ...

I love my Circula Supersport.
I've got a Gruen from 1917! something about that era of watches I just love. the 'trench watch' style just does it for me. I need to get a copy of Kyles book!
Thank you so very much! I’m so happy I ran across your video. I now have a working clock on my wall.

What if the crutch needs adjusting ?
@@Changedmynameagain Hi, I don’t have a video on this but here’s one that might help you. ua-cam.com/video/KSF2krMyowQ/v-deo.htmlsi=5QPqSKndey-2hEaY
I have three Curvex’s anyone out there know where I can have them serviced - especially if any need replacement parts?
??? Unfortunately can't support you with the purchase of the book, none the less my Gruen is labelled Gruen Precision under the 12 o'clock position, says Curvex above the rectangle at 6 o'clock position and no display of the numeral "6". Any ideas on model or year would be appreciated.
Please don't add background music. We're supposed to be listening to you. Why make that harder?
I wouldn’t put an old clock in a middle or high school classroom. It’s a great idea though!
Yeah, it is a little risky. It’s going behind my desk and will be placed high up. Thanks so much for watching!
As always very nice professional video. I have never played that game. It is your clock and as I always tell people there are only a few people that you have to satisfy. That is yourself, your spouse, and a potential buyer. If you like the clock that is all that matters. Keep it up. Congratulations on your new job.
That's so cool!!
Seeing the process shows just how much time, effort, and work went into this project. I enjoyed the time lapses of your processes. Nice work, and good luck at your new job :)
@@marklingenfelter6938 Thanks Mark! 😊
Nice clock. The cuckoo quail clock is a great addition to any clock collection. I've been a big fan of chiming clocks since I was a baby. I have about 40 of them in my clock collection already, and I plan to collect even more and learn to repair clocks someday, too.
WOW
Awesome, you could make the weight look like a gossip stone, those told us time too.
that looks good
Pretty cool video. My sons birthday is Jul 21 so it should be a full moon birthday for him this year. Another great video Seth.
Thanks Mark!
This clock is from the 80’s. A promotional clock. I worked for the company in 1984 which was the year they were giving them away as awards for high sales.
Thanks so much for sharing the year it was made and the story behind it. What did you do @ Dr. Pepper?
How can I stop the coo-coo clock from playing? 1:07 1:09
@@dryanvocal If you don’t want to hear the cuckoo call remove the weight that lowers during the call and set it aside. It should still keep time.
Another professional video with a beautiful clock. Thanks for taking the time to show us. You might want to add the NAWCC event to your title incase people are searching for clips from it.
Thanks Mark!
Absolutely gorgeous.
Thant’s a really cool clock!
Seth!...Dude!. Finally someone has a clock like mine!. I have a cuckoo like this and could not figure out the pattern and could not find one anywhere. Coincidentally, I, too, paid $100 for it. Mine has an eagle on the top and a bird on either side. Thanks so much. Now I can sleep once again 😎😎😜😜
I would absolutely agree that the Movado Polyplan was one of the first, if not the first, curved movement wrist watch. This design was impressive and difficult. The Polyplan movement was much more complicated than the Curvex design. Both the Polyplan and Curvex movements fit into curved cases, but that is where the similarities stop. The best way to describe the Polyplan movement….. imagine a very long, flat watch movement with the winding/setting stem at the top. Divide the movement into four sections. The last two sections of the movement, are bent down. So the entire movement is still comprised a flat movement, but a good portion of the ends of the movement are angled down to fit into the curved case. The entire Curvex movement is built inside a two curvilinear planes. This design moved the mechanics of the watch to multiple planes, allowing for larger watch parts in the same space. You can see the physical curvature of the movement, whereas the Polyplan is flat on every surface, but angled at the ends. So it’s like comparing the 1929 3 1/2 L Bentley to a 1969 Mustang. Yes they are both cars, but it stops about there. Which one would I want? Both of course. They are both unique and interesting.
Sorry, but this information is not complete or accurate. For moving and hanging a small 1day clock, this video is fine. However, for large, older clocks with heavy weights several things must be considered. First, do not pack the weight in the same box as the clock: large weights can add up to 10 lbs in weight and can damage the carving on the clock if they shift or the box is juggled in any sort of sudden motion. Second, placing the twist tie through the chains should be very close to the base of the clock to prevent the chains from slipping from the gears - if done correctly, you won’t need to worry about chains slipping. Third, and most importantly for large clocks with heavy weights, the nail from which your clock will hang should be placed at an acute upward angle from the wall. In older homes with plaster walls, you can hang the clock anywhere, but it is always best to place the nail into a beam for added support. In newer homes with plasterboard walls, locating a beam is of utmost importance. Also, using a plastic screw/nail cover will add security for your clock. Again, the angle of the screw/nail is IMPORTANT. After hanging the clock and placing the pendulum and weights, start the pendulum with a gentle push and LISTEN for an even tic-toc - adjust the clock by shifting it slightly left or right until the beat is even. Good luck with your cuckoo clock!
Thank you for mentioning all these great tips!
Beautiful cuckoo quail.. Sounds wonderful and looks so , so good. You do a great presentation, very professional , clean, clear, pictures and great , loud,/hearable narration.
Thank you!!!

I think it’s a different tube than Westminster. I’m not sure what it is. It’s a happy song though from the way it sounds
Beautiful watch. The watch makers back then were really talented with their engravings on the watches. I bet there are folks out there that are cringing with him not wearing gloves as he handles the beautiful time piece. Thanks for sharing.

I have a 100 yrs pendulam clock, the problem is if I hang it on the wall it Stop & even for the slight tilt it stops working, how to rectify.
Hi, with it being that old do you know about when it was last serviced? The movement may need cleaned and oiled.
How do you determine the size weights you need for your cuckoo clock
Hi, it depends on the age and also how many days the movement is made to run. For example a modern basic 1 day cuckoo usually takes 275 gram weights but an 8 day around 1200g. 1 day cuckoos that have a music train usually 325g. Most vintage & modern 1 day movements are stamped “regula 25” and the 8 day, “regula 34” When we get to antique cuckoos the weights tend to be a little heavier and vary greatly. I hope this helps.
Thank you for the information
Another beautiful clock and a professional video. Thanks for the shout out in the description of the video. God bless you and yours.

I have an almost identical clock to the one in the video and the pendulum stops swinging after a few minutes. even with the bob taken off. If i remove the pendulum arm it will keep swinging indefinitely. What's the cause of this
my pendulum stops moving on its own. What's theproblem and how do i fix it?
Hi, it could be a few different things. What kind and type of clock is it?
@@ClockswithSeth its a German wall cookoo, same as the one you showed in the thumbnail and has an identical wooden pendulum in the video.
@@daveslyker4431 Okay, 1 common issue is the pendulum leader wire rubbing against opening of the case bottom. Another issue is the clock being out of beat. When the pendulum goes back and forth does it have an even tick tock sound?
@@ClockswithSeth yes it sounds normal. Just slowly over about 10 minutes it will stop swinging if there's any weight.

Another great video Seth. Very cool clock. Prior to me collecting clocks about 30 plus years ago while I was in the military I made a clock out of wood that I put a battery movement in it. The career field that I spent 20 years in was Munitions Systems Specialists. Their symbol was a piss pot. I made a piss pot clock for my best friend on his retirement. Had a protective coating on it that was very thick. Thanks for the shout out in the description of this video.
Hi Seth, could you tell me if it's ok to have your clock on a outside wall of your house...like a piano, I guess? Love the video.
It should be fine. Modern homes are much better insulated but long ago I think that was an issue.
This one is on my bucket list...tbh, I want any Seth Thomas Sonora model.
