When I was a teenager, I heard "Israel's Son" by Silverchair in the anime movie, "Street Fighter 2: The Animated Movie" on VHS. The first time I heard it, I just wanted to listen to that song over and over again. I kept rewinding that VHS tape just to listen to it. Then, one day, when my family had cable and Channel [V] or MTV, I don't remember, I saw the "Israel's Son" music video and I fell in love. I bought their CD the next day.

Saw them open for the RHCP in 1995 at the Spectrum in Philly. I bought tickets when they headlines the Electric Factory the next year. Incredible live band.

Great documentary. . even better that it focuses not on the frontman (as most rock docs would) and goes into depth on life after the fame roller coaster. Really amazing friendship those two guys have. It's rare!

Textbook case of depression for depressions sake. He focused on it and made mountains out of molehills. I believe he forced his mind to be sick that he made his body sick too. I firmly believe "Words are spells". Singers who constantly just sing about pain and think about pain, live in a world of pain that didn't have to be there. Young Daniel John's would hate what he turned into. Camp airhead who started making absolute drivel music. He should've taken a page out of Thom Yorkes book, who is regarded as an actual artist. He's an old wizard of man who keeps making stellar music. Daniel John's was making cringe crooner music by the time he'd not even hit 30. He's now making absolutely awful music now. What happened to that kid who was into Helmet and Fugazi and Shoegaze? How did he turn into this?

Frogstump is one of the top 10 albums from the 90's and to this day it still kicks you right in the face!!!

I saw them in California where I lived. They played at the Santa Monica Pier. For a small concert for KROQ radio station. Daniel got hit in the head by some kook with a bottle. They slayed !!

I was 16 when Silverchair came up and Tomorrow was the first song I listened from them. I got amazed by their talent and their young age!! Silverchair is one of the best bands in the world!! I still haven’t gotten over the end of the band 💔💔

There is a lot of not still-not-understanding on Bens side for Daniel’s conditions back then.

I feel for Chris more in all of this. He was always the most quiet, sweet & sincere one plus I’m sure felt like he was already the odd one out considering he didn’t contribute creatively to the work (maybe he did on their first album. I think Ben thinks he at least deserves writing credits for Tomorrow) so that’s gotta “feel” like you’re not pulling your weight, but he always held his own on that bass no matter which way you slice it. He said he feels like the child in a messy divorce between Dan & Ben & all he wants is peace & all of his best mates back. I truly feel for him. Going from on top of the world one minute to normality can be quite humbling. That band was his (& Dan & Bens, as much as Dan wants to separate himself from Silverchair) identity. I can’t imagine the pain and devastation of feeling like your whole identity has been taken from you & you have to build another from scratch on your own. & to find out on the radio that your band was no more- the absolute & utter heartbreak! 💔

Daniel Johns is a very gifted person. His song Freak these days has a whole new meaning. Daniel wrote one of the greatest albums of all time in Diorama. Any band that relies on original material needs a songwriter. Silverchair were very lucky, they had one of the best songwriters Australia has ever had. Ben and Chris got VERY lucky having Daniel as their songwriter. No songs no band.

Wow. And through all that Chris went through Daniel didn’t call or check in once. Absolutely unforgivable and shows his true character.

I think Silverchair got overlooked a bit because there was so much good grunge/alt rock during that time. But Frogstomp was a great album, start to finish.

Actually the band came along at the end of the grunge era. Still a very good band.

Ok the band is a bigger deal for Australia. Did they have talent yes they are not even close to AC DC. After Ana’s song late 90s they faded away. They are know for a few songs on a global scale Stateside they well know. but the came right off the heels of the Seattle sound. Except they were kids at the time. So it became popular for less than a year. Then John’s had different issues. If they evolved maybe they could have had longevity.

I've been involved with a high school band comp for the last 30 odd years called Youth Rock. Innocent Criminals 1st performed & played some great cover songs. The following year, they'd just won the Nomad competition the week before our competition. They slammed us to the wall & played several songs that ended up on Frogstomp. They ended up becoming a sponsor of Youth Rock to encourage other kids to follow. It is an absolute shame that the band fell apart & Daniel finds himself estranged from his friends, forget the music.❤
