If you have the transcript and read along you will just be doing the same as you are now. The purpose of shadowing is to mimic and copy the speakers voice. It's how you learned your mother tongue. You shadowed your parents. You didn't have a transcript then and you did all right. Same technique to improve your English.

One short test is not a definitive assessment. Try a few more. It's really good to know your level. You can find material that is suited to your level. One big mistake to avoid is trying to improve by using advanced level materials. You will not be able to do the material and give up.

I grew up in Canada and learned British English in school and American English from television and movies. My lessons are a mix of both. Canadian English is not highly developed. Not a lot of unique words. Only things like loonie or double double.

ed@@elenaorozco5254 I was fortunate to learn oral French in Junior High school. Unfortunately, this stopped in high school. Instead we learned school French, like school English. Very boring. Later I had a French girlfriend who spoke no English.. Canada is supposed to be bingual but very few Anglophones learn French. Even in Montreal Quebec, Anglophones live in an English speaking area and don't learn French.

Reading and speaking are too different skills. Learning to shadow using the Bible is useful only if you plan to do public recitations of the Bible.

@@firebug1892 People spend too much time memorizing the wrong things. They try to memorize list of vocabulary. like studying for an exam. And like studying for an exam, you forget what you memorize very quickly. Instead, better to listen to things like podcasts, expose yourself to new words. Repeated exposure is the best way to lock them into long term memory and active vocabulary It takes a minimum of 12 exposures to lock into long term memory.

@@firebug1892 If your question is about memorizing Bible passages, you need to study memory systems. The most famous is Mateo Ricci, a Catholic missionary. His method is called Memory Palace. Most books on memory improvement mention this but he is the original. Priests learned these methods for years. But this was not taught to the general public. Get a book or course on memory development and find the chapter on memorizing speeches and text. Chances are you are using rote memory techniques which are ineffective. Unfortunately its the only memory technique most people use
