i kept failing at it and then took one look at the video and got it first try. Absolutely bonkers that you parry them before they even properly initiate their grab animation. I was expecting it to be right as the grab is about to happen and not like, a full second or so before

Literally just discovered this last night after accidentally whacking Grandam a little too hard, can’t believe the detail

Ok so basically the time to hit your parry is as the winter lanturn moves his "wand hand" back just before the madness prison thing hits you. The way I was able to do it was I run into aggro range, wait until he lets off like a black smoke aura, then run away because he's going to try to teleport behind you. After he teleports behind you immediately roll spam out of there, he will miss his attack and there will be a pause window before he tries again. Then let him try his madness thing on you again but be ready, wait for him to reach his hand back at the last second and hit parry, if the timing is correct it should work. Then you can follow up with a critical and a heavy attack to finish him off, or at least that's what I did. I hope this helps! Happy hunting! Further info that might help, I'm just using a brass shield with golden parry, I do have high focus though since my build is a frenzied flame acolyte so to speak, if you're runnig into madness problems before you can kill them consider getting the astrologers set. It's sold from the vendor at Liurnia Lake Shore grace, it's relatively cheap and has close to the highest focus you can find on gear all in one convient place.

I had to slow it down to see the movements, but slowly speeding it up bit by bit I was able to finally do it after about 5 tries, though I had the buckler with buckler parry, which is the highest parry window available.
