How to Make a Table with Construction Timber
A lot less work and more available space is the lazy susan with no central pole.
Interesting. How would that work?
AWESOME JOB!!!! I have been looking for this particular make. The ones that you buy are too expensive and also don't hold a lot. I was looking for a way to make it out of wood and HERE YOU ARE!! thank you so much.
Thanks very much. I hope it serves you well.
Really wonderful solution!
Thanks very much
Bro sounds like Jason Statham haha subscribed
We go to the same barber too. Thanks for subscribing. I appreciate it.
I felt that "its all good" when you shared youre blunder thanks for that. Great work !
Thank very much. It was a dark time 😂
Great job, and well explained. I was thinking of using a small hinge on the back instead of glue, it would be easier to transport/store.
Thank you. The hinge is a great idea.
Thank you for 8:20-8:25!!!! So real!
Yes it felt very real at the time 😂. Thanks for watching.
Just moved into a teeny flat, with the stupidest teeny tiny kitchen ever, with practically zero cupboard or drawer units. But of course it has the obligitory useless corner cupboard space which, as an old gimmer, I can't use properly. How I wish you were my neighbour. I'd provide the coffee and biccies whilst you built me something actually useful. This really is a fabulous design.
That’s very kind. Thanks very much. I hope you’re happy in your new home - despite the kitchen layout. 👍
@@aw.artisanwoodworks Actually, despite the midget kitchen, yep, rest of the gaff is okay. I'm an enterprising soul. I bought a load of old drawer & cupboard units from the charity shop, painted & covered with shiny sticky paper, new knobs & handles, and have lined one wall of my living room with now modern looking "kitchen" units. Got someone to sit the fridge on top of a drawer unit so I can actually see what's in the fridge now. Loads of storage room for all my stuff. Looks fab. I wish I'd realised years ago how great that sticky shiny worktop paper is. So easy to transform old tat into fabulous looking things. 😀 Still wish you were my neighbour tho, could do with some shelves n stuff putting up haha. Regards x
I hear you! My tiny U shaped kitchen has TWO blind corners. I'm going to take this to a cabinet shop and ask how long I have to save up to get these. If it's less than a year I'm going for it!
@@jazzjacks8831 That's brilliant! Great ideas.
@ Happy saving!
Great video, can I please ask what make is your jointer/planer?
Thanks very much. It came from Rutlands in the UK. They badge other makes so I don’t know the original manufacturer but it will be a similar quality to Triton or Lumberjack.
I like your videos. Kinda calming me down and loved that blues background music too. And of course ... great work!🤘
Thanks very much!
Great video but I have a question What if you have a pre-cut mat
Then you don’t need to fold the tape into hinges but still just fix it at the top on the back of the mat so it can move.
Dear Sir I do appreciate your calm way to explain. I mostly look at the USA tube videos but the are so big bigger biggest. Your videos are easy to understand Greetings from Ghent Belgium Keep up the good work
Thanks so much. I am glad you like it.
@@aw.artisanwoodworks do you sell your plans online
I don’t yet but l am planning to start in the New Year.
Perfect video, clear staight to the point and well edited! I've just made a smiliar frame out of oak, ended up doing the rebates quite inconsistently on a router table and wish i'd watched this video first. Loads of great tips
Thanks very much!
Can you explain how to get the right proportion? Your frame looks nicely balanced and beautiful in its simplicity. Thanks for sharing.
I usually base the proportions on the artwork (and at home, the available space). A good rule of thumb is to use the golden ratio of 1.618. In practice make your long side 1.6 times longer than your short side and the proportions will look good. I didn’t do that here as the picture was face mounted on the frame so I took the proportions from that. I hope that helps.
I made it by myself. I used WoodPrix woodworking plans for that.
Great work
Thank you so much 😀
Just wait until the cat finds out about it...
😂
That is a really good idea - beautiful.
Thank you! 😊
Nice job. One suggestion, requires a break on the roll so as to be able to use one handed & not have the entire roll unwinding.
Thanks for the feedback.
Now THAT a great idea for women to make for their husband or partner. SURPRISE…look what I made. Great for a garage or man cave. I like it!
Thanks very much!
Always handy to have in the workshop, good build project, great video take care
Thank you. I wouldn't be without them.
Ha. The look on your face noting you need to cut the cabinet was priceless. I plan on buying or building kitchen cabinets next spring and I want better options for corner cabinets. I hate lazy Susan cabinets
I'd love to say that was the first time that has happenned...but...
Genius 🎉
Thank you very much
Как же круто
Thanks very much
That's a great instructional video. Good to see someone using their track saw to cut panels to size, many seem to just use it for rough breakdown then finish at the table saw. 12mm for the bigger doors too? Is that thick enough?
Thanks very much. All the material is 18mm. The door rails and stiles are 18mm with a 6mm panel. The only thing that was 12mm was the shelf pin jig so I’m sorry that wasn’t clear.
@@aw.artisanwoodworks 😳 I was running around making breakfast while I watched it so my mistake. 👍
👍 No worries. I appreciate the feedback and that you’re watching.
Really good tip for getting the shelves and pins all aligned! How much experience do you think a person needs before tackling a project like this?
Probably less than you’d think. I’d start by making small cabinets like maybe for a bathroom so you can practice box construction and get comfortable with doors. Although these are Shaker style doors the project could work just as well with flat panel doors that could be just a sheet of MDF.
@@aw.artisanwoodworks thank you - and definitely agree on the painting!!
nice job!
Thank you! Cheers!
Fun project thanks for posting
You’re welcome 👍
The cinematography!!
Thank you 🙏

If you were to put on the draw sliders underneath the cabinet pointing the other direction, would that work? That way the sliders would be in the opened position when the cabinet is closed, and it would make for an easier time fastening it to the bottom. It seems to me that the main struggle building corners like this is how to fasten the first unit inside the cabinet. Did this make any sense? English isnt my first language.
Yes! If only I’d had you here when I built it! You would have saved me a lot of grunting and sweating 😂
Subscribed as soon as Ruby - your trusty assistant - appeared. Dogs & woodwork, a perfect combo ❤🐕 🪚🔨🗜
Absolutely! Dogs and just about anything really 😂
how did you cut the angled side on the bandsaw? wont fingers be too close to the blade?
Not really, no. The band saw is a much safer tool than a table saw or mitre saw as the blade is trying to pull the work down to the table rather than pull it away from you or fire it back at your face at 100mph. As long as you are paying attention (obviously something you should be doing with all power tools (and even hand tools really)) and have a good grip on the work then you can safely get your fingers much closer to the blade than you would do with either of the other two. Having said all that, I’m just some guy. You should only do what you feel comfortable with.
Outstanding!
Thanks very much.
Aw mate that's clever 👏
Thanks mate. The drawer boxes only have 4 sides though Martin. I have some way to go to catch up to your 18 sider😄
Great starter project to get the children involved.
Great solution!!
Thanks very much
Now you need a lazy suzan to show off your lazy suzan.
😂
Nice job
Thank you 😁
Thanks lot for this. Nicely done. I noticed the unit shifted downward when the drawers were extended. Were I to try this, I would try to attach one more rail along the rear of cabinet box to help add support and hold the drawer box to the actual cabinet in the rear. Otherwise when it's loaded down, it might really sag when the drawers are extended.
Thank you. That’s a good idea.
love this! I am also blessed / cursed with a corner cabinet in my kitchen, unfortunately I live in a rental and I'm not sure I'd want to go to the trouble of doing this (or having it done seeing as how I don't really have the tools... or a workshop). my cabinet is the reverse orientation of yours and what makes it especially terrible is that the cabinet door is quite narrow, like eight inches wide.
Wow! That is very narrow. I hope you have long arms! 😃
This is a genius solution!! I soooo appreciate your hard work, and I love how you just shrugged off the miscalculation! I would've been cussin' up a storm for a few minutes before I could move on! It's so frustrating! You seriously have come up with a genius solution!! Bravo, sir, bravo!
Thank you very much. I really appreciate it.
Great idea - thanks alot! Now I need to figure out how to do this in Alu... Our kitchen (as most kitchens in the Emirates are) is built of Alu profiles... Right now, we have 2 corners with just shelves disappearing into ... nowhere? 😂 This is such a clever design maximizing the use of space while allowing total easy access to everything. I guess if I laminate the ply with thin HPL, it won't look odd in our kitchen. The drawer construction or material is kinda irrelevant here. Not to be picky, but I'd use countersank bolts from the top with the nuts on the caster wheel side ;o)
Thank you very much. Yes, switching the nuts and bolts around would have looked better but the honest reason is I didn’t have a spanner to fit between the flanges on the castors so went with it as you saw. You have a good eye to notice that 😁
Very smart! Quite a challenge to construct. But given your way of accepting a mistake it should be fine, all is fine! Really enjoyed that 😅😅😅😅😅
If I didn’t accept my mistakes I’d never make anything! 😂
Very interesting. Watched as long as I could stand the aggravating music. Please turn off the music.
Thanks very much. Yes, the music was too loud in parts on this one. I’ve fired the editor and the next videos are better 😂
American here.... Damn carpentry would be a 1,000 times easier if i did everything in Metric....
We still use imperial measurements for lots of things. I might cut a board to 415mm but I’m still 6 feet tall and our National speed limit is 70 mph. My car gets 50 to the gallon but its fuel tank holds 52 litres. We have a strange relationship with the metric system 😂
@@aw.artisanwoodworks I just feel like America (pun incoming) needs to get onboard with metric.
I’m seeing more and more woodworking UA-cam channels from the US using metric. Maybe it’s already starting.
My last place had a corner cabinet that I never could find a good DIY solution for. Now I have the perfect solution...but no corner cabinet. Outstanding video though!!
Thanks very much. If you move house again I hope you don't need it there either! 😀
