Hamatethy Farm: Rewilding in Cornwall
At Hamatethy on the edge of Bodmin Moor in North Cornwall Yan Swiderski is rewilding 600 acres. The land is low stocked with a small, slow-growing, almost wild herd of Welsh Black cattle that eat only the abundant grass and forage here - 100% pasture fed, leading natural lives outside beyond thirty months old. Alongside these animals thrives a host of wildlife in the sky and the undergrowth. The presence and activity of the cattle here is helping to expand an existing breeding cuckoo range. White storks and voles are found here, barn owls and kestrels hunt small mammals in the long grass.

    This sounds amazing, and I am impressed when you imply the profits are better than originally made. From what you say, the sheep were a drain. Is this a model that can be applied across farming, or is it successful as a niche? Best of luck going forward!

    They say specifically they are earning more profit using this method. Its not about the overall income- costs are so much lower in this method. No need for massive machinery costing 100s of k unlike modern tillage enterprises. I agree there may be a scale aspect to this but there is no question surely that people would feel better about the food they eat if it was grown more ethically

      Yes, where the money came from to buy the farm and tide over the initial period was not explained. They both clearly have had an English Public School (thus privately purchased) education and I notice a lot of these rewilder owners seem to fit into this category of rich well-educated people being environmentally responsible (which I applaud, don't get me wrong) and it would be interesting to learn of their journey to this stage.

    • @Neldot
      @Neldot 11 місяців тому

      @@nnd1164 it's not the altitude, it's the fact that in Italy there are not many places, being it mountains, hills or woods, that are not accessible to humans, so our local wild species have evolved to be smaller, to have greater chances to hide and survive to the hunting. And it worked, both bears and wolves have survived, although in limited numbers.

      No it's an Italian wolf, a subspecies of the Eurasian gray wolf. I'm not an expert, but I could guess that the size was influenced by the fact that Italy is a peninsula and not the mainland of the continent, so the wolf had to adapt to a smaller terittory with less food source than its continental counterpart

    On "Kodami" we learn that the carabinieri would have certified that Grossi (Juan Carrito's investor) proceeded at reduced speed due to fog and poor lighting, on wet asphalt. The question arises spontaneously: WHAT DOES REDUCED SPEED MEAN? I suppose that since the speed limit in that stretch is 50 km/h, a reduced speed means a speed appreciably lower than 50 km/h; OR NOT ? (this is called hypothetical deductive reasoning!) Was it going at 30km/h? was it going at 20km/h? Was it 10km/h or 5km/h? AT WHAT SPEED WAS GROSSI GOING? WHICH ARE THE OBJECTIVE ELEMENTS FROM WHICH THE REDUCED SPEED OF THE VEHICLE WAS INSURED!!!!!! ???? I REPEAT !!! AT WHAT SPEED WAS GROSSI GOING? GO ON ! Grossi (Carrito's investor) proceeded at reduced speed due to fog and poor lighting, on wet asphalt But if that was the case (wet asphalt fog, poor lighting makes little sense since we are not in the urban center) then the speed certainly had to be regulated well below 50 km/h, as prescribed by article 142 of the Highway Code which states that the driver has the obligation to adjust the speed of the vehicle so that, having regard to the characteristics, condition and load of the vehicle itself, the characteristics and conditions of the road and traffic and any other circumstance of any nature, all danger is avoided. BUT AT WHAT SPEED WAS GROSSI GOING? IT IS NOT MADE TO KNOW! the analysis and study on the deformation and kinetics of the vehicle could provide excellent information in this regard. the car absolutely had to be seized and analyzed in every detail in order to arrive at a reliable value of the impact speed with comparative tests. Of course, by now the non-impounded car will no longer be able to provide information about it ... WANTING TO ASSUME THE MOST FAVORABLE CASE FOR THE MAJOR 50 km/h, it was analyzed and verified through studies on the entity of the damage, resistance, consistency, weight, etc. half d of the bear if this value was plausible ! with third party and party appraisals and counter-appraisals. It would have been an advantage above all for Grossi who swept away the heavy suspicions and responsibilities that cloud the minds of many. I well remember that initially the news (if true) emerged from the newspapers that he had not seen the bear that had suddenly emerged after a curve and that he had not had time to brake. He had not spoken of fog or lighting or wet road. But if it were for the curve, that's a very wide curve that offers an overabundant view to those driving at 50 even more at 40 and so on, and it couldn't be otherwise, otherwise the road manager would have set a lower speed limit (for don't make it long). In my opinion : to say that Grossi proceeded at reduced speed means nothing! It was necessary to certify what the speed is and if it was less than 50 km/h! otherwise it's just crap. I imagine the car going 50 km/h all that damage.... Dr. Dario Rapino on Carrito (united people of the world) and bmw frontal crash test against wild boar at 80km/h say a lot about the 50km/h of golf, let alone if he had gone even slower.....a insult to the most underdeveloped intelligence.
