They're very close. I wouldn't say either one is better, they just have very slightly different EQs. The Audio Assault is a bit thicker, the STL has a bit more upper-mid treble bite. Maybe the STL is slightly higher-gain, with a bit more of an impression of scooping / smile curve to the EQ. Which makes the AA sound a bit more like a raw amp, and the STL a more 'mixed' version of that amp.

Great video! I got amped blackout the moment I seen it hit a release which was the morning of that day for me. I have a 5153 stealth 50 watt head which I just got not long ago and I love it very much and I also have the mercuriall Plug-In which is amazing. I do find that the green channel is a little heavier than on the reel amp but maybe that's cuz I don't have the 100 W head but on my 50 watt head even with an aggressive tube screamer before it. It doesn't get that dirty. It can get definitely a good dirt but it doesn't get as metal as the blackout can get on the green channel. The blue and red channels are perfect

Both sound great. And both reassuringly similar sounding, basically the same type of tone. Though the Softube has a little more bite and treble definition, but I'm sure EQ or pedals could easily take care of that. The Softube is a slightly nicer interface, and AmpRoom is a nice suite overall. If the Softube went on sale for less 60, like their ENGL Savage II and Metal suite recently did, then maybe worth it over the AugustRose. At full price with both, the AugustRose is plenty good enough, and you save enough for a nice 5150, like the Bogren BDH or a rectifier like the Bogren Rev C. The NDSP Tom Morello would be a more expensive alternative to the Softube Kerry King, but you do get a lot of effects power for the money, and probably similar enough amp tones, if you aren't deadset on a Kerry King model.

I gave it second listen and the emg 81 seems to kick me in the balls more lol. Sounds more powerful and crunchier a but sterile sound but thats the trade off. With 24 volt mod that can easily be fixed.
