Yeah top spin played like this deadens the cue ball off the cushion. The cue ball is still spinning with top even off the cushion, bounces back a bit until the top spin stops it. I think every player has experienced this as a eureka moment when trying to get back up the table with lots of top and realising what happened.

My dad has metal rods in his back and neck, he can't get down on the cue, when i want to tease him I bet him 10 pounds he can't get his chin on the cue

@johnathanrhodes3770 no he bought the table on ebay and built it and recovered it and then had rods put in so we are learning together after work and school. Good battles now.

The cue was nearly thrown mate, I lost because of that

We had the hainsworth a year mate, we have a strachan tournament on it now and that's a good cloth and cheaper than the hainsworth.
