I used to use Sonar by cakewalk back in the day and loved it, but they are no longer around, so recently when i got back into writing and recording, i switched to Pro Tools because i rememebered it being the big dog when i was in audio school back in around 2009, and ill admit, after using pro tools for about 4 months now, im at my wits end and will be looking to switch to something else as soon as im done the project im working on. I find pro tools to be fairly easy for all the the things i need and use for what i do, but what i cant stand is how fucking dogshit unstable it is. It started out fine for about a month without issue, then i started having issues of it suddenly not wanting to play friendly with my interface and start distorting the sound. switched to a different interface, same thing. The issue went from once every couple of hours, to once every ten minutes. Jumped through a bunch of hoops and finally got it to a point where its not doing that anymore. Along the way of those issues being resolved, it started having issues of not wanting to play back anything, it would just flash the play and stop button until i closed the program and reopened it. Then there are the issues with plugins needing to constantly be switched to "not active" and then back to "active" before they will work. No rhyme or reason as to which plugins, its just random. Then came the crashes, where it just randomly crashes whenever the fuck it feels like it, sometimes when its playing a crap ton of tracks and plugins, other times when its sitting idle while i eat a bowl of cereal taking a break. One of the add-ons included with PT through the avid link app fucked up and keeps trying to reinstall itself every time i power up my pc. And a big kicker is that despite changing absolutely nothing on or about my fairly stout computer rig, that i use strictly for music recording, running the exact same plugins and doing the exact same shit ive been doing for months, it somehow keeps getting worse and worse. It went from working flawless for over a month, to problems here and there, to being downright unusable with major issues every ten minutes. Ive run latency monitor and it has found no issues with my pc, so it shouldnt be pc related. Im tired of having to scour forums and youtube videos from avid themselves to fix a million problems, im a fucking amateur music engineer, not a professional computer software engineer, i dont want to have to rewrite the entire fucking DAWs source code to use something i paid hundreds of dollars for. Recently ive been playing around with reapers demo mode and it has had ZERO of the issues im having with pro tools so thats likely where im headed next.

Hey Matt, A few days ago, I bought a very well-maintained M1. I paid 400 USD, did a reset, and now have access to all the amazing sounds. I’m definitely going to incorporate many of these sounds into my modern music production. Of course, I’ve already made a video about it. I got the board set up in my studio and even created a little track just minutes after turning on my M1. I just wanted to say that I’m super happy with my Korg, and I’ll keep it until it no longer works. The only downside is that one of the black keys stays down after I press it. But I’ll probably fix that once I’ve watched a few more videos on how to take it apart. Best regards, Thomas from Denmark

Honestly, I prefer the isolated hardware that currently is working decent (a software in a computer can be disrupt by other processes and create a bad experience), but It's a little disappointing the new KORG Kronos 3 still uses the same technology from KORG OASYS that was released in 2005 (using technology from 20 years ago) because the current 32 bits architecture is very limited to upgrade. However, the Kronos OS based in Linux Kernel is pretty friendly to create new solutions like KronosHacker made to alter the kernel and other guy changed the motherboard installing a customized Kronos OS. I'd like to see the next workstation a 64 bits architecture with a better hardware support in the future.

Here’s one thing Korg could do and they would dominate the market if they would do… Release a dedicated Workstation Controller with associated software. Just imagine something like NI Maschine (so with sampler, sequencer, arp, yada yada yada), but with all sounds from Korg with their plugins and libraries… something like Roland did with Galaxias, but they would release a Workstation Controller, which would be a MIDI controller that looks like a Korg Kronos, with faders, knobs, touchscreen, pads, navigation buttons, you name it… a little bit like Akai did with the MPC Keys 61, but with Korg sounds and Korg workflow…. Open to 3rd party plugins. That’s something I’m hoping for NI with their Komplete Kontrol 61 mk3, but they’re lacking faders, pads, touchscreen and couple of onboard I/O. We need a Workstation controller you can use without any QWERTY keyboard, or mouse or screen. So you could simply take a MacMini (or Intel NUC), plug it to your Korg Workstation Controller and you would have the equivalent of a Korg Kronos with 100 times more power and ability to play AU/VST plugins, Kontakt libraries, etc… because in the end of the day, the Korg Workstation Controller would just be a controller for their dedicated plugin that could run as stand alone and load AU/VST plugin (just like NI Maschine or Akai MPC Beats). For people that prefer hardware to have hands on experience, working without computer, it would still work because the computer would be reduced to a small blank box you’re plugging to your controller… like a cigarette pack dongle. The main reason to keep the computer outside of the controller, is so you can change it for a new one when a more powerful comes. The main problem with Kronos is that it didn’t evolved and didn’t follow progress in computer technology. But if you could get a M4 MacMini today, but 5 years from now you want more power, buy a M9 MacMini, transfer all your soft and license and you can continue with more power… but the whole workflow wouldn’t change since you would still be using the same workstation controller. Even if the controller with high-end components would cost $1,000-1,500, it would be a good deal, because they could afford to provide the Korg Kronos software for “free” with the controller, and if you add a $599 for a MacMini/Intel NUC, you come around the 2 grand for a 61 keys workstation, which would still be half the price of top of the line workstation. So you have more free money to buy additional content such Korg Collection, NI Komplete, Arturia V Collection, you name it… and still be under the price of a Korg Kronos. Technically that’s possible to build such Workstation Controller, just look at NI Komplte Kontrol 61 mk3, Maschine, or Akai MPC Keys 61, or even Ableton Push 3… they’re all good dedicated controller. Korg could build something similar but with their Workstation workflow in mind.

I would expect it to sound a little more analog and in-depth, especially for modern-era boombap/gfunk. They just sound too digitalized and not 'cool' or make my ears go, like, What am I hearing? Like the 1980s synths do. Kronos and Nautalis are both crap. Many of the sounds are too muffled, not fx'ie enough, work great as solo pieces or cheesey orchestrations (non-realistic), but suck for boom bap and multipart music. Also, if you are going to compose an orchestra or something more luxury-sounding, just hire a real orchestra/played instruments. I don't care about a sequencer; we just need a 16-part multitamberal synth with nice drums, sfx, pianos, epianos, and cool effects/knobs that can be automated via cubase/protools like the old MicroLogic AV/Emagic days. Ugh. Every industry has fallen off since 2001. VSTs all sound the same and lack the dynamics you get with real analog synths like moog, true rhoads, etc.; no decay of elections. I really dislike music production these days. Plus, its a pain to fiddle around on the computer to browse for sounds, especially when you have 5000 sounds; you only need 1000 to compose things in your head. Once you get too many sounds, when you fall asleep at night, you cannot compose tracks in your head. That is why real bands that play real instruments do so well; they can hear the instruments in their heads, and they only have a few of each instrument type. Not overwhelmed with choices. Just give me a modern Korg Triton Studio 88, and we are good, so we can resurrect Slim Shady. Please 🥺 Plus, stop making these keyboard 61/73 keys; unless you make oriental music or specialize in lead sounds with pitch bend, no one has any use for that; if you want anything less than 88, just get a rack at this point and use a controller. Again, all these companies or any company does now days is create cash grabs-they don't strive to make great products. Very few companies make good products these days. It's like this for every industry pretty much. Sad.

I originally wanted a Kronos but it had already been discontinued and couldn't find one second-hand since everyone wanted to hold on to them. So I got the PA5X-88 even though I never used the arranger functions. The PA5X has served me well for the past 14 months both with its built-in sounds and as a MIDI controller to pull in plugins from Mainstage3 (since most of my work is live improvisation, I do not use a DAW unless I'm doing long-winded compositions). I was about to replace the PA5X with a Nautilus AT 88 ,but found and bought an AS NEW Kronos2 88 and I'm SOOOOOOO HAPPY! Christmas is early this year !! At the risk of rick-rolling ... dear Kronos2 I'm "never gonna give you up!"

IF you have an older pedal, don’t be afraid to get a screwdriver and open it and have a look. My Roland pedal is almost 40 years old. It was not working with my 25 year old Casio device. I opened it, and unsurprisingly found an unsoldered spot labeled NO on the circuit board. The existing lead was soldered to a spot labeled NC. So I got my soldering iron and some solder, and moved it from NC (normally closed) to NO (normally open). And VOILA - it now works.
