This is Plato's most debated dialogue, in which the characters Parmenides, Zeno and Socrates debate the idea of the Forms and that of the One. Now, there are many ways to summarize this work, and this is just one, which takes the debate at face value and sifts through the ideas in the dialogue. Another approach is to see the complicated and contradictory arguments as evidence that in fact Plato was satirizing Parmenides and Zeno. A third point of view is that this dialogue presents a technique of looking at a question from all sides so as to teach his students the fine art of sophistry.
