Fina and June
Приєднався 19 січ 2017
Training and adventures with my two horses: My 2015 Andalusian Palomino mare Fina and my 2022 Morgan Chestnut mare June. I have had Fina since she was two and have done 100% of her training from the ground up. She is finally trained well enough that she is super safe and so much fun to ride. Even after all these years she is still experiencing many things for the first time. I’ve posted many of her “Fina First” moments on Facebook. We are about to embark on more new experiences and I’ve decided to also share them on my UA-cam channel. June has been with me since she was weaned at 4 months old. I will be sharing her training and experiences as she grows.
This channel is about horse training from an Amateurs perspective. I consider myself to be a typical middle-aged horse owner and enthusiast. I’ve gained a lot of knowledge over the years but I am also still learning. I plan to share what I do know and also the good and ugly of the process as I continue to learn.

I reviewed with June some basics. At this point I’m mostly wanting to spend time with her. I’ve started to introduce working her in the Cavesson

Fina training update

Working on collecting and transition exercise. Oct 27, 2024 Fina’s canter continues to improve. She is feeling strong and balanced. Going to the left is her more difficult side but still much improved.
June -running and falling “if you fall in the fall you’ll be…

“If you fall in the fall you’ll be….. When Autumn leaves are falling from the trees…..I’ll be your Girl for all seasons” . Beautiful June. Growing up but still a baby. October 2024, June is 2 years and 4 months old. She has now been with us for two full #equestrainlife years. So hard to believe as it’s gone by so fast. Time flies. #horse
Fina’s canter progress. September 28, 2024
Переглядів 13Місяць тому
The last month I can feel Fina has gotten stronger. It seems like we have finally stepped off of the plateau. The strength that she has gained in her hind legs is bringing her into a naturally round and more collected frame. I attribute this to the many miles/hours that we spent on the trails over the summer.
Fina in-hand work. Baseline September 2024

I’m about to take up study under professional direction to further my education working with horses in-hand. This is my current baseline with Fina.
Reintroducing Fina to side-reins while longing
Переглядів 23Місяць тому
When I started Fina I introduced her to side-reins but then stopped using them do to the dogma surrounding them. Im reintroducing them and plan to incorporate them in the next steps in her training to help strengthen her top line. I will also be using them as she is introduced to more advanced ground work through a training Program with a professional that I’m about to embark on.
Young horse introduction to the bit “”My name is June” VLOG
Переглядів 182 місяці тому
I’ve tried a few different bits with June. At first just putting it in her mouth for a few seconds to eventually for a few minutes. Ironically, the bit she chose was the first one I tried. I say chose because I would put a bit in her mouth and watch her reaction. For the one she “chose”, she held the bit calmly without fuss. I came back to this first bit and then tested it further; I walked her...

First time with rider. Two year old horse starting “My name is June” VLOG
Переглядів 262 місяці тому
I sat on June for the first time! Disclaimer: I was not wearing a helmet because I did not actually plan to sit on her in this session. Unexpected help showed up and the moment felt right so I went for it. I’ve done months of preparation for this moment so she barely noticed me up there. Next steps at some point this fall will be to take a lap Or two around the round pen and then let her have t...
2 year old horse mounting block training at Liberty “ My name is June” VLOG
Переглядів 412 місяці тому
Working with June to stand at the mounting block at liberty. I’m starting to put some weight on her back. Fingers crossed and It won’t be long before I sit on her. My plan was to also work with her doing the same process with a rope halter since I will have a rope halter on her for her first ride. I didn’t get to that today because I spent so much time at Liberty plus I thought we had done enou...
Jumping on my two year old horse at Liberty “My name is June” starting under saddle series
Переглядів 383 місяці тому
Working at Liberty with my two year old Morgan Mare. Cueing her from the mounting block to both move around me and stand next to it. I’m trying my best to jump on her from the ground. Even though not successful it’s still great training to get her used to a human jumping on and off of her. Now that June is comfortable wearing a saddle fully girthed up. It’s time to ask a little more and have her get used to wearing her saddle while moving. #horse #horselover #horses #horsetraining #equestrainlife #equestrian #equestriantraining #equinelearning #horseriding
Working Equitation home course Bank practice
Переглядів 1463 місяці тому
I set up a partial course to practice for an upcoming Working Equitation show. We are moving up a level to Novice B. My biggest concern is that I will need to canter Fina up and down a bank; Something we have never done before. I turned a part of my arena wall into a bank to practice cantering up and down it. It’s a little bigger than what we will encounter at the show so for that reason and be...

@@Bella_eqisew thank you!
What a character
I really needed this since I was not taught the serpentine properly. Thank you for the help. (I have a dressage test soon so this really helped me)
You’re welcome
Thank you for making this video! Very well explained!
You’re welcome 😊
I love my electric gloves. My hands used to be painfully cold after 10 minutes. Spring is coming.. sometime!
I’m soooo ready for Spring! Although, winter is way more tolerable when we can keep our hands warm..
Love that stove
It’s gives off the best kind of warmth after hours out in the cold. Goes straight into your bones.
I love seeing all the snow but I glad to be in Texas where it’s a lot less complicated 😂
I used to live in Texas so, yes, I get that, and sometimes think I should go back 😂
Shouldn’t they have blankets on?
No. Their natural coat keeps them warm. They have an undercoat and an outer coat that fluffs up with a layer of air in between that insulates them. When snow sits on top and doesn’t melt its because the air layer is keeping their heat in and the cold out. The snow actually acts as another layer of insulation. I do have blankets and rain sheets if they actually do get cold. Horses that don’t have a good wind break need blankets because strong wind can disrupt the air layer. Freezing rain as well. Fina sweats under blankets. I used to try to keep one on her just to keep her clean because I don’t like having to clean mud off before riding but in this weather that’s not a problem. June has a super thick coat. I check on them three times a day and if they ever seem cold I will put on blankets and/or bring them inside the barn to warm-up.
Great explanation.
Thank you!!!
Lol there cuteee❤ they look like my dogs!❤
It’s soooo much fun to watch when they play!! ❤❤❤
Sorry.. i know upu said she improves amd youll work on yourself but i cant keep watching. Ive worked with alot of babies over the yrs. Good luck with getting on top of your emotions..
Thanks for watching a part of it anyway. I am sharing both the good and ugly parts as I learn. Hopefully, I can show that learning is not easy and that we all makes mistakes in the process. It’s easy to get discouraged and give up but also important to work through problems when they happen even if the person’s fault. I’m finding that babies can be intimidating so I know it’s very important to work through that nervous feeling. Thanks for your encouragement.
Thanks. This is much clearer. Good luck with the saddle search.
Hi Tracy, Have you taken any further video? Some sunlight and riding near C mostly would be helpful. Sending a Music List today.
We’ve not had good weather for riding outside. I do have some recent video from my neighbor’s indoor. I will see what I can put together for you.
You did good Tracy holding her back, she settled quickly. They will be best buddies in no time☺
Thanks Rena! Please come visit soon.
@@BetterRidge.Equestrian I will have more free time after this week☺ I’ll text you next week and set up a day and time to visit. Give the girls a hug for me🥰
Congratulations!
Thanks 🎉

Lovely. Well done!
Hi Tracy! I am in ST too, and I enjoyed watching your touchstone. Congratulations! I would like to know about your dressage arena markers. Did you buy these, or make them? I like the way they look!
I found them on line. I do not remember the name of the company but I do remember that they were located in Florida.
Ok, I will look for them. Are they a combination of wood and plastic? You just have to hammer them into the ground like stakes? Also, did you film your touchstone entirely with a Pixio camera?...sorry for all the questions but I'm just trying to get my set up better here. I hope to video my first touchstone soon!
furysfancy the letters are wooden and screwed into a stake. They easily push into the ground. No hammer needed. I use a soloshot to film touchstones. If you google Dressage letters on wooden stakes they will come up. I just googled them and a company called DressagePro came up
I found them at Crowd Control Store (strange name)! Thanks!
furysfancy your welcome. Enjoy your ST journey;)
