DESERT STORM IN THE HIEROGLYPHIC MOUNTAINS 1 23 2025
DESERT STORM IN THE HIEROGLYPHIC MOUNTAINS 1 23 2025
Our Happy Trails 4-Wheel Club took a ride through the Hieroglyphic Mountains, better known as The Boulders. One slight problem, the wind was blowing really hard. Dirt filled the air which in turn covered everything, including the Jeeps, inside and out, the drivers and passengers, and our dog Breezy.
We encountered hills, lots of them. We drove over steep hills, up hills, down hills, and did I mention blowing dust. But we made it back to the Wild Horse for lunch. Everyone had a good time and enjoyed the ride.

DESOTO MINE TRAIL JAN 16, 2025
Переглядів 262День тому
Our Happy Trails 4-Wheel Club traveled up past Cleator AZ to drive the Desoto Mine Trail. We were disappointed that the first several miles of the trail had been graded. The trail has beautiful scenery and a whole lot of rocks to climb over. We made great time with Doug Strand leading our group with lunch out on Senator Highway. We found our way to Mayer, AZ to air up and back towards Surprise,...

Our Happy Trails 4-Wheel club drove Ruby Wash that has rock obstacles throughout the trail. It’s a fun ride with challenges and scenery. We advertised the trail as a Class 3.5 requiring a Rubicon with a lift and good skid plates. Lockers on both front and rear axles. Proved to be correct. We all had fun and enjoyed the day. We entered the trail off of Buckhorn Road and exited out on Trilby Wash...

BOULDERS & CEDAR BASIN

Boulders recreation area has over 200 miles of off-highway trails. Today we drove one of our favorite trails through the area and connected up with the Cedar Basin trail. This trail connects to the Castle Hot Springs Road. No real obstacles but a lot of steep hills to climb and full of scenic back country areas. We made stops at what we call Quartz hill and at a wild-life water catchment. We ha...

This trail goes through the land of saguaros, with a stop at a wild life water catch. It does have some rocks, hills, narrow spots and brush. A mostly easy trail with a few harder places. The start and finish are off the New River Road. It does join the Crap Shoot trail for a short distance.
PADDLEFORD WASH
Переглядів 126Місяць тому
This ride took us through Paddleford Wash and up and over some hills. The ride is near the Wild Horse and that’s where we had lunch. This ride is considered an easy ride due to the drive-arounds on the obstacles. If you do the challenges it is rated as a moderate. Due to a miscalculation, one jeep lost a fender. We all had a good time, both on the trail and at lunch.

Thanks for another great trail video! I have been looking to do that trail for a while and have one question. Did you guys take the first right turn leaving Cleator or did you take the second right to get on the Desoto Mine Trail? Hi @gmsimanson, The right hand turn is 1.2 miles past Cleator on the Crown King Road. Coordinates are: N34*16.630 & W112*15.207 There is a large gravel parking area on the left (south) side of the Crown King Road, just opposite the turn. I do not think there is another road between Cleator and the Desoto Mine Road. This road is wide and you can't miss it. Hope this helps.

Boulders recreation area main entrance is off highway 74 on the north side. See: www.blm.gov/visit/boulders-ohv-staging-area , which is part of BLM land. There are many crisscross trails in the Boulders. The route we did crosses Morgan City Wash on the north side of Boulders. This is where we get on Cedar Basin Road. This road goes through a State wilderness area. This road exits onto Castle Hot Springs Road. Hope this helps.

I answered this question but I cannot get it to show. This trail starts in the Boulders OHV stagging area of highway 74. The trails we picked heads north crossing many other trails. We entered Morgan City Wash and connected up with Cedar Basin road. We continued north to Castle Hot Springs road. From there we headed west, out to highway 60. I looked at the Desert Runners video and did not recognize their route.

Good evening @azcep76, I have 18 waypoints with most of the turns. Way to much to list here. If you go to the Wild Horse on Lake Pleasant Parkway. Go West on Old Carefree highway to 33*47.882 & 112*16.797. Turn left on one of the trails and head south in the dry creek bed. Make you way to 33*47.276 & 112*16.856 Turn right up the rocky hill. If you go on Google Earth you can map out a route. You can make your way all the way over to Highway 74 or circle back to the start. There are many trails up in that area. The Wild Horse is a great place to eat. Very popular around noon time.

Enjoyed the video, beautiful Thanksgiving morning. One question though. I have been Jeeping for 30 years, 20 in Colorado, some other various places and the last 4 in the Vegas Area. I am a trail runner and explorer. What was it about that trail that required airing down? I have never aired down except in a Volkswagen bug along a muddy canal. I know you can’t always tell slope from videos.

    • @HappyTrailsToYou
      @HappyTrailsToYou 2 місяці тому

@@poco1174 We air down for two reasons. The first is it softens the ride, the tires absorb the shock from the rocks and other hard obstacles. This makes your jeep parts last longer and it’s more comfortable for us old folks. 😊 The second is for better traction, allowing the tires to have a bigger foot print. I know what your thinking, this trail did not have any rocks, sand, mud, etc. Well, it did have some rocks and a little sand when crossing the dry sand creeks, and a few steep hills. As it turned out, yes, we could have very well drove this trail without airing down and maybe not going into 4-low. But airing down and shifting into 4-low makes the ride a little more enjoyable. So, we air down on every trail and I always shift down at every trail head. Shifting down allows me to use my gears to slow the jeep down going down steep hills and it makes it easier to climb the steeper hills. I have watched some old timers not shift because it’s more macho, I guess. But then they are spinning their rear tire and throwing dirt and rocks back at the jeep behind them. It’s all a matter of choice. Everyone is in charge of their jeep, their tire pressure, the line they take up an obstacle. One thing for sure, every time I go 4-wheeling I learn something. It is always a pleasure to go out into the wilderness with friends and enjoy life.

Greetings, we have been using GMRS radios for about 2 years. We love them. About half the members have the hand held radios and they work well within our trail rides. For a while some agency put up signs about a mile from the river that the trail was closed. There are no signs now. Last year we turned around at the signs. Also, the sign that was at the start of the trail (Predator ) is now in a large dirt area, sort of like a parking lot. Like what is at the Metberry Gulch trail end, only smaller.
