Allow me, Magiliws please correct me if you spot something incorrect. ________ Maharani: from Sanskrit meaning "Great Queen" They also used the Filipino words "Lamakbini" meaning the partner of the Lakan. Lakan means a ruler. The dance that Bini Jhoanna and Taneo were dancing is called Singkil. It's a traditional dance amongst the Muslim ethnic groups although the dance itself existed before the Islamic influence. The other dance they were doing in the school yard is called Tinikling, it's a traditional dance amongst the low land ethnic groups and is often performed during celebrations. It's a very difficult dance for the unskilled. We have common stories of getting tripped by those bamboo poles😅 Filipino students will most likely dance this as part of their school curriculum. The brown and gold attires they wear in majority of the choreo is inspired by traditional weaves especially Inaul pattern of the Maranao ethnic group. The pattern is also in their neck ties.
