I was thinking he won’t have my home town of Industry Texas but I’m shocked to see New Ulm which is just 5 miles away from Industry.
Good video. You’re the only other UA-camr besides myself that I’ve seen cover this Lynching here. What’s worse when you do more research about this is that it’s very likely that the 2 sheriffs seen holding the ropes were directly responsible for handing over the two teens to the mob and that they also helped them lynch them as well.
I'd rather live in Sealy than gawdawful Houston.
I was born in New Ulm, MN.
Dont look at the fake stories in these comments. PV wasn't built because blacks weren't accepted in other power 5 colleges. And even if it was true it would be all of the power 5 Texas schools.
That’s awesome work your way up 35. Greetings from Grand Prairie TX.
Thank you and I'll check it out!
Manvel, Iowa Colony
I was the staff painter at Columbia Lakes for a couple of years in the early 80's. It was good job at the time, the people were nice, the benefits covered the birth of my first kid and when I left they wrote me a letter of recommendation that helped me get a job as a painter at UT in Austin. Then I got an office job there and retired sixteen years ago. West Columbia beat Brazoria, Angleton and Freeport, by a mile, in my opinion. My years in Surfside we're cool as hell though.
That's very interesting and I'm surprised you pick Columbia over Surfside.
I've driven from Austin to Houston or Lake Charles about a hundred times and I stopped at a Restaurant for lunch there about ten times. This is the first time I have seen downtown Columbus, so thank you. I lived in West Columbia for a couple of years in the early 80's and lost all appetite for small town living. Austin has been my sweet, sweet home for forty years now. Go Texans. Hook 'em Horns. Cowboy's you suck.
My friends went to “PV” they all used to have fun in college definitely doing the traditional college stuff drugs parties only thing is.. it’s still cops out there looking to lock u up for petty crimes I.e Sandra Bland
Oh wow just browsing and guessed correctly which town you were talking about. We built a huge horse barn here for some people, back in the late 90s. Drove every day from Richmond Tx. Ate at the little convenience store/Diner quite a few time. Food was always great!
It’s a college town with very little for the Students near the campus to do. No grocery stores and very little food options. No shopping centers etc. he missed so much of PV though.
How you say there's very little of everything, but then I said I missed so much? 😂🤷🏾♂️
Thanks for sharing ❤
and thanks for watching Sherry. ❤️
I remember in the 1980s n 90s you could count on just your fingers how many Mexicans lived in Brenham. And at night it was nothing to do out there. Kids would go ride in the country and go tip cows 😂😂 I hurried up and moved back to Houston. Wasted 2yrs of high school there.
Hello newbie here ILove your videos The DeLorean had to reach 88 miles per hour you have a new viewer here.We are from Mont Belvieu. Howdy neighbor.
Hello Deborah! Welcome to my small community family.
Home of Eric Dickerson
They got the land for free back then and slave build the house for free
The city is far more than what you described. Did you visit Alta Vista subdivision? Did you visit any subdivision beyond Owens Road? Did you go across the tracks or down 290 Business? There are other subdivisions. The farm is owned by the university and includes a meat processing plant where the community can purchase the exceptional beef and goat cuts. No history provided regarding the relationship between the city and university and alumni who became mayors or students elected to the city council. You visited on a holiday weekend and spoke with no one. Long time residents could have provided you with so much history. Those who attended high school on the campus and lived on the campus as children. So much missed.
Understandable Phyllis, but my channel isn't about the people who live in it. It's about the features of the town. Also, there's only so much you can put into a 20 minute video.
@ThisSmallTown You didn't feature the town. You featured a segment of the town .... homes that need to be renovated or repaired. You gave an unbalanced view of the city when you chose not go further.
I showed exactly what's around that university that you can go look at today for yourself. I can't make up what's actually there. So when I pulled off from the university I showed the closest neighborhoods directly north, east, south, and west of it. If you don't like what you saw, that's not a representation of my video, but rather the city.
@ThisSmallTown Was your focus on the university or the town? If it's the university, the ranch is part of the university - you didn't know that, but research would have told you that. You assumed it was "private property." If the focus was the city, Alta Vista subdivision is about 200 feet south of Hope AME on the right. Had you driven through there, you would have seen an entire neighborhood of inhabited homes built in the 70s. Did I miss a comment in the video about the bowling center, Checkers, the post office, community center, the dollar store, and city hall? Did I miss mention of the elementary school across from the bowling center? Anyone who doesn't know the area would think that outside of the university, the city consists of nothing but dilapidated houses. Had you driven across the tracks, 3-4 miles, you would have happened on another subdivision. If you had turned right at Business 290, you would have come across another subdivision. I ran a quick real estate search for the area, I found 36 properties on the market - none of the houses were like the ones you showed unless I just didn't see those in your video. It's your video, but in my opinion, it does a disservice to the city of Prairie View. I watched your Hempstead and Waller videos. Very different... and you showed very little of the areas that are not as pretty, picturesque, or old western town. I kept waiting on a view of the "hanging tree" in Hempstead. www.movoto.com/prairie-view-tx/?adid=&campaignid=19976555735&adgroupid=&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiAr7C6BhDRARIsAOUKifhCp8e2jxrMHbjl5s8DOEH-KTEVxHb3jSEqRWyogfFZg7ampALbSyAaAkl6EALw_wcB
@@ThisSmallTown As far as going to look at the area myself, I'm there 5-6 days each week.
Your video does not do justice to the city of Prairie View nor the university.
Thank you for the video, you're going through historical black and white towns, the old 300, colonists and 443 enslaved who started this region 19th century. It would have made your video make sense come back and see us sometimes.
I am from Hockley texas just 12 minutes from pv, my aunt use to work in Pv helping students with financial aid, Mrs Brenda Reese!!!❤❤
I am round that area I do not think that is the smallest in Texas
Smallest incorporated town.
Bro alot of that stuff you talking about renovating. They have to be torn down.
Those buildings in my video have been there for years in the recent same condition that you saw in my video. Renovations shouldn't take 10 to 15 days, fam.
I have cuzins in Ledbetter
I lived in Columbus TX back in 98'
Enjoy your work
Thank you
Your money is gonna live out at Columbia Lakes
Flower shop used to be the old Rexall drugstore
You’re correct. The capital is the old movie theater. I used to go there as a child.
H-E-B has been in West Columbia since I was a kid and I’m 58 years old
As a kid we used to call East Bernard, “East barnyard”
They call it student housing instead of dorms now. Lol.
Clean town.
Made that mistake only once and I thought I was going to die, always take more water than you think you’ll need
So true!
oh man they found us. now we have to move
Every one of those empty old buildings was someone’s dream.
I enjoy your videos. Please do videos of Cypress, Texas AND Tomball, Texas. Thanks!🙂🇨🇱
Shout out to my family the Randle's ❤🔥
My Dad trained racehorses back in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. Prairie View A&M used to have a veterinarian by the last name of Poindexter, and my Dad would take whatever was sick, horse, cow, dog, or cat to Dr. Poindexter. My Dad liked the Doc because he was a good honest vet, plus it didn't cost an arm and a leg to pay for the vet bill. Dr. Poindexter knew his business. I don't know if the Doc is still alive or not. He is/was a good man.
Great story. Thanks for sharin!. 😃
There is difference between lynching and being hung for rape and murder, there were not murdered justice was served
Thank you Judge Roy Bean.
Back in the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, my Dad trained racehorses. There used to be a real nice racetrack there in Columbus. One year the famous western movie and TV star Dale Robertson made an appearance there at the track. He was a very nice man and was signing autographs for everyone. The track had a great PA system and were always playing good country music. All during the 1960s before he finally hit the big-time in 1975, Willie Nelson's songs were played on that PA system, much more than the other singers and bands. Sometimes, after the races we over, we would drive into Columbus and eat at a certain restaurant... the name of the restaurant escapes me, Bill or Bob something. I never got to see Columbus during the day time. Hopefully I can drive down sometime and visit Columbus, 🇨🇱Texas🇨🇱
It's really a beautiful town. 10 out of 10 recommended going to it check out.
19:20 sis-turn*
That is the Chicken Ranch Dance Hall. I believe they have damcing and music every Saturday. At least that is what the wind blew into Austin for folks with the nose to the wind of our old Texas that is still loved.
It is interesting how expensive the home prices are with a population of 650. What do these people do for a living?
This is a great question. For a lot of these towns I'm hearing that a lot of these people have big jobs in the city and buy nice houses in the country
It's Chappell Hill
A friend of mine served on the Sacramento Historic Commission. The city was tearing up a street and discovered a paupers' cemetery. Essentially a mass grave without headstones for the poor. The city paved it back over leaving those at rest. So much sadness in history.
Wow, I didn't know that.
St. John’s Lutheran is an ELCA member. It seems odd to me that a super left wing church exists in a tiny rural Texas town. For those unaware, Lutherans can be very liberal to very conservative depending on the synod.
The Winnebago at 8:01 was really a horse trailer! LOL
Baptist church is haunted
😧
