I try to make and build stuff, mostly for the sake of making it. If it's useful, then that's a bonus.
I always try to avoid "special" tools unless I make them and I am always looking for the cheapest way to build something.
I rely more on common sense than on safety procedures.
I don't have ads, sponsors or paid content. It will stay this way.
If you choose to redo anything you see on my channel, take all the appropriate safety measures. And bring a towel.

Knifemaking: Leather round knife

Arbor Press Upgrade: makeshift awls
Переглядів 2,1 тис.5 років тому
I wanted to try a different approach to make stitching lines other than diamond head chisels or a hand awl. The video is a tad older as one might realize when seeing workshop cat. It's not pretty, but it works. The awls. Not the cat.
New life for a Gränsfors hatchet pt.1: The Scabbard
Переглядів 1625 років тому
I own this hatchet for quite some time and it is still my favourite (and finest) one. However, Time has left some marks and this thing still works like a charm. So I decided to invest a bit of my time prettying things up. Part one: The scabbard or whatever that thing is called. Full Credit for the making of this fine tool goes to the unknown (to me) blacksmith who forged this thing. Im just pre...
Knifemaking: From restricted item to EDC legal knife.

A tool is a tool without any intrinsic intend. Anything else is talismaning. However, without any probable cause for it: In 2004, push knives and push daggers have been banned where I live. Only people with a hunting license or people working in the fur/pelt industry are allowed to have one of those, but it has to be a single edged blade. So: relax, I have a permit. Suffice to say, as those thi...
Upgrades for an arbor press (right out of the box)
Переглядів 152 тис.7 років тому
I am not a huge fan of using a hammer to punch holes or set eyelets and fasteners. I saw the use of an arbor press in various other videos, so I made me a press station with some bolts and a cutting board. The snap fastener receiver is friction fit.
DIY shop vac baffle / cyclone / separator

Scrapmade Stitching Pony
Переглядів 12 тис.7 років тому
With an afternoon to spare and the urge to better my leatherwork skills, I made this tool. It's a pretty rough looking thing, but in this case, looks don't count for me. Also, I didn't spend any money on it, all materials were lying around in my shop. The only somewhat "special tool" used was a welder, and even that could be circumvented. If you want to see a way more luxurious versions, check ...
DIY: scrapmade little dowel jig
Переглядів 65 тис.7 років тому
I am fully aware that one can buy such a thing in any given hardware store. But where's the fun in just buying something when you have scrap lying around waiting to have a purpose? So: Need a tool - make a tool. I needed some sort of a reference for dowel placement on a bunch of planks / boards, a future project. So I made me a little jig.
DIY toolmaking: pipe clamps from scrap material
Переглядів 144 тис.7 років тому
I had scrap material at hand and wanted to see if I can put it to good use. I think I did so. Also, I wanted to practice welding. No fancy or special tools were needed, other than a welder and some drill bits ordered via amazon to make 30mm holes into steel.

"Need a tool - make tool". I need clamps with a wide opening for an upcoming project, so I made me a few, instead of buying some.
DIY: Horizontal carry sheath
Переглядів 182 тис.7 років тому
I wanted to try something I had seen on the youtubes: carrying your fixed blade horizontally, in case one carries a fixed blade on occasion. Like I do. Heres the link to where I personally have seen in in a variant the first time: ua-cam.com/video/HjV83obZqz8/v-deo.html ... not saying other might not have done so for ages, unbeknownst to me.
Making a burn stamp / branding iron w/o CNC or welder
Переглядів 151 тис.7 років тому
Marking what you make is a no brainer. It's even more fun if it involves open flame. You'd usually run this through a CNC but I don't have one. Given I have a lot of curves in my mark, I opted for aluminum to dremel its out- and inlines. And since I was at it, I made three different sizes. Finncrafted showed pretty much the same approach on steel, his straight lines involved a cut-off disc for ...
Making a jig saw box
Переглядів 95 тис.7 років тому
I had this jig saw lying around, way to good to throw away but too bulky and out of date in comparison with current models. And while I wish I could justify buying a band saw, this will do well enough for my purposes. Knifemaking: Saw blade to Sharpfinger
Brilliant
wonderful improvement. I would like to ask how the “cutting board” feels after a while ?
I appreciate your comment. I habe since done several changes and improvements. On is: I swapped the cutting board with aluminum bracings and I use worn down pieces of cutting mat in top of that when I use hole punches.
@@smu1129 I bought a steel plate and use magnets to mount it. Also not so bad. I'm just a beginner, your video gave me new ideas, thank you 👍🏻
Subbed, nice video. Very clear and well shot.
Very nice sheath I just got done making my first knife I need a sheath like that good job
So the story supposedly goes that Nasa spent millions developing a pen that writes upside down and underwater, and they made it for the Apollo trips. The Russians being cheap and practical figured out that a pencil would easily serve the purpose without spending a ruble. Supposedly. Who knows if this is true. Along the same lines, you expended much energy to make something that I admire, and am jealous because I don't have the talent to do the same. Excellent work in all sincerity. However, I went to Harbor Freight and bought some flat magnets. Attached to the Arbor press, and attached my stitching punches, cheap metal punch frames, and also the tool that does rivets and snaps. It works as well without issues, and I don't have to drill or sand anything. I only need to have a solid metal plate and poly board below that to support the compression of the pressings. You're welcome.
Nice
Solid product
3:23 That's hawt.
Plz Share ur address and cell phon number plz
How about more than a 1/8 second reveal of the finished product?
I like I like! I love it even😀 I finally broke down and got an arbor press. Great idea. I can make one of these. I have plenty of cutting boards. I was thinking of putting all my 20 and 24 rivet on one and a top for the anvil so I don't mar my projects. Super cool idea.
I had my arbor press modified to use for snaps, rivets, gromets etc. a while ago. I just now got around to trying it and it doesn't press down enough. Could you do a video showing how to adjust the thing with the notches so it goes down a little more.
cool tool :-) very impressive- thanks for this video!
These are great mods. I’ve been fiddling around with my arbor press for years, these will help make my work easier. One thing I added to mine was a wooden base so the press is more stable during use. I also drilled holes to accept the tools when not in use.
What’s the name of the knife you used here?
This is called a scout sheath, or scout carry
Scout carry is on the small of the back.
@@smu1129 "Scout carry refers to a 90 degree angle on the belt, usually right above the hindquarters or sometimes under the belly button."
I love this type sheath, and really appreciate you sharing mistakes. The captions were hard to read in the time they were up. I had to keep rewinding and pausing to keep up. Love the work though. Great job.
Красота! Вот бы мне такой нож.
😊👍
“I welded, it helded.” That’s my motto!
😖f 😖
Nice one, mate. I sort of taught myself to stick weld. I wonder if we could go into business together, teaching how not to weld! Good work anyway.
You don't leave the text on the screen long enough to read it
Hello, Nice demonstration. What type of manual press are you using. I've only been working with leather for a few months now and find I am getting more and more interested in the antique tools that were used by artisans in the 18 and 19 century. Thanks for the look into your technique.
Is there already a hole in the ram when purchased?
No, not in the one I got. Maybe other variants have that.
Bro good video, but I want to see the end product
*Works perfectly for my use as a heated press **MyBest.Tools** Space between the ram jack and the base is a little tight. Make sure you set the ram jack arm so that it's in a position for you to get maximum leverage on whatever you're pressing. You may have to unbolt the front plate of the press and realign the ram in the teeth so that the arm is not at an awkward angle when fully cranked down.Other than aligning the ram in the teeth with the crank arm this .5 ton arbor press comes out of the box pretty much ready to use.*
By grinding off two of the gear teeth on the ram, the crank lever can be put in neutral allowing a position of most advantageous positioning to be selected before use. My press isn’t where I am currently so I can’t confirm this, but I believe I ground off the two teeth on the down end of the ram. Also, I had a similar set of punches as in the video and instead of drilling out for the entire assembled punch, I threaded the ram to fit the interchangeable punch heads, thus saving space below the ram head for future potential spacing requirements.
Glad I'm not the only one who has to re-do and re-do and re-do.....
Don't care for silent videos.
What press was this ?
A 1-ton press from Harbor Freight. With coupon, I bought mine for under $60. I haven't modded mine with the drilling yet.
@@patrick2748 ok, thanks. Seems hf is no longer carrying them.
But what if you suffer from Dunlap syndrome?
use a regular awl blade in a drill press. add a fence.
No demo ???. How it works.. you should show after you finish
When "Good knife, crappy sheath" i screamed "i see you know bark river knives too, mate" 😂
Far too much work.
Thank you
What brand and model was that knife?
👍🏼 very nice

Good job. I was able to make one that works on 12 volts
A knurled knob, that’s what it’s called.....
Nice video, I like how you rounded the plastic on the table saw, very ingenious. Where did you get the flaring tool die for kydex rivets?
Thanks and excuse the late reply, I'm not that active on the 'tube. I got the idea to round the plastic from a Diresta video called "table saw tips" or something. I ordered the flaring tool with the first batch of kydex eyelets but have since switched to the CKK flaring dies - and modded my press further.
I want for me
Wow almost 5 minutes on ways it did not work and no time on getting it right👎
Amazing. No way in hell I would do that myself. Still, amazing and major props to you mate
Please make a video explaining the procedure or share the design and material used here.
If you want a way to make it prettier, grind the coupler nut round and us a short bolt as the nail carrier so that when it's assembled, only the bolt head is visible.
