Hey everyone! Welcome to Stu's DIY channel. My name is Stuart (Stu). I'm your blue-collar guy, living in the midwest. I do a lot of projects around my home and property and I wanted to share my experiences and projects with anyone else who is interested to watch me struggle at projects and have some successes along the way. Apart from my full time job, I recently bought my first home and have been working on a lot of projects on my days off. I use all sorts of tools and ideas (some made up) and I am excited to bring you all along for the ride.
Feel free to reach out to me at stusdiy0702@gmail.com. If you have any suggestions or ideas you would like to see for me to do, leave a comment or send me a quick email.

Pressure washing driveway and discussing Milwaukee tools!
I have a heater just like that and I just wanted to test if it worked but I don’t have a thermostat is there any way I could turn it on without one
Yes get it a 110 power source like an extension Cord cut off and temp wire it in. Then go to store and get a cheap thermostat then I can send you more detail pictures of how I did mine and a roll of thermostat wire prolly could do it all for less then 50 buck and it’s worth the test if it runs Bec they are nice once installed
If it’s not to beat up and you think it will run again worth the time and money to test run it.
How can I use mine without a thermostat
Can you explain more..please
Install the lockout valve to isolate the deck. Fully raise it, close the valve and the deck won't move when raising lowering the plow. I have one on my X585.
Will have to look into that thank you…
Don't wanna sound like a dick, but that wiring job is terrible. With just a little bit of research and a little more work, it could have been done right, or at least a lot better than that. Appreciate the effort though.
You like tape
Seriously, really seriously...you WILL eventually have a ground out on the fan box where you left the wires hanging with nothing but electrical tape. The vibration from the fan box WILL eventually slice through that tape and the wires WILL ground out on that fan box. This will send sparks through your attic. Massive fire hazard!!!
With 2by 6 you can’t build and inside closet
Wasn’t trying to build a closet. Just needed this wall to mount the future upgraded boiler to the wall and all the components.. on the inside and also it closes off the mechanical room for noise. Thanks @stusdiy0702
Did she survive? That's a nice tractor god damn I'm happy to have upgraded to a la165 I pulled from the junkyard 😂 one man's trash is another man's treasure
Yes it survived.. but it killed it dead at full Throttle. So I thought I tore something up. Definitely not something I want to do again. Thanks for checking up on the soon to be ol girl
Why use 2x6 instead of 2x4?
Because the steel beam that the wall is under is the same with as 2x6 so I made sense to use that material. Also when I got to install the wall sheeting it comes nice and flush on both sides to the beam. You won’t see the beam after it’s sheeted and I don’t have to fur anything out this way. Hopefully this makes sense. Thanks for the comment bud
Nice loose soil, perfect conditions for moving soil!
Was kinda hard packed under the loose stuff but just having fun
@@studiy0702 I was actually impressed with how easy it moved that pile, I know that dirt is pretty heavy! Nice job!
@1966roadking thank you. Yes next time I do something small like that I will be taking the deck off
Thanks for the video! Looks like my basement. Why do you prefer tapcons over a ramset for the concrete? Also Do you require floating walls? Is it necessary for the beam? Great job!
I like tapcons I feel they hold the plate better for interior concrete. And also the beam shouldn’t move it’s locked in hard at both ends. I sheeted the other side of the wall with OSB so it’s solid. Im going to mount all my boiler piping to it so I don’t want it to move at all.
The beam was there originally but I wanted to put a wall there to make a mechanical room to help make it quiet in the basement if your chilling down there!
How many miles you have on it? I've got a '15 3.4 Eco with 121k miles.
I got 70k on mine
How do you like your pickup so far?
Stu, Hugh is a man's name - huge is another word for large - ginormous or big. Just say ginormous in the future. Art from Ohio
Good luck with that mower, it is the best. Just make sure you turn off fuel and let engine run until it will turn off when there is no more gas. That is the best way to winterize but add some stabilizer to the gas in the tank!!!😅🤣😂
I do will do that and I usually add seafoam just to help clean the card out before I winterize it as well but have to make it through the fall mulch season first then I will put it to bed
I mow around obstacles with roundup
Yes I have mowed there meny times but this time got a little to far over and it caught. So totally my fault and next time I will be spraying and not doing that again. Quick lesson to learn that’s for sure. Thankfully nothing damaged
@@studiy0702 if you want goes for sure go with brushcutter near the pipe in the ditch
@LeonardoMigot yes will have to spray or weed eat around it in the future
@@studiy0702 trust me is better with brushcutter
I don't like the fact that it doesn't have a discharge option. It's always nice to have an option like that.
Yes would have been nice to have side discharge 100% agree. Thanks for the comment plz subscribe to support the channel. Thanks again Stu
@@studiy0702 yeah I like your mower but for as nice as it is it baffles me why it doesn't have a discharge option. I use my discharge over the mulch option, and I never use my bag.
@SteelRhinoXpress i like to bag mow the front yard to make it look nicer in my opinion. And then for around the back and planter areas I just switch it to the mulching. Then for around my shop area and big areas I ride with the John Deere way faster haha.
@@studiy0702 Actually the Honda lawn mower is even better than side discharge because by leaving the selector to bag instead of mulch, it will discharge clippings from the back. that is what I use always: No bagging the cut grass, and no mulching... I deduce that mulching will stress the engine (especially wet grass), burn more gas, and will probably shorten the life of the mower. LOL
@go4lowcost652 I guess never ran the mower in bag position without the bag attached. But I like the look of the yard when it’s all bagged up and doesn’t take to much extra time. I obviously only mulch it when it’s dry. But wet grass is hard on push mowers that’s for sure
I know a guy who broke his neck locking the blade. Hit a curb plowing snow at too high a speed.
That’s not good at all. Well if I didn’t bolt it the blade springs would just keep flexing so it’s what I had to do to make it work.. thanks for the comment
WOW! A five star wife for sure! She's got some good tool hands and demolished that slate top like an animal. And to top it all off she tore into the clean up too. And looked real good while she was doing it too. You need to bring her back Stu. I am not suggesting that you exploit her but you should consider it anyway. Art from Ohio
Lookin' good! Art from Ohio
I would like to see the man that raised you. Tell him another old man said, 'get over it' and get in the videos too. I am sure he has a lot he could share with us. I would also like to see your wife and kids. Art from Ohio
No kids. Yet. Dad will be in in time lapse when I get the video’s edited. Wife is a nurse and works a lot so days off are not the same but she helps when she can but usually she holds the camera for me but she’s in a few videos
Man that is some thick walled tube! Looking forward to see this in action. Art from Ohio
I spread 27 tons of dirt and rock with a Simplicity 7016. The dirt was loose though, not like this rain packed stuff you are pushing. You are right - that thing is a beast. Nice demonstration. Art from Ohio
Well Stu you remind me a lot of my next to youngest son. He is a young go getter just like you, but like you he is humble and very respectful of his elders. Considering the typical guy your age in this country you both deserve giant trophies. At least now I know how you can afford the JD 758. Good for you Sir I have much respect for you young man. You are contributing something very useful back to the great country that you live in and I sincerely thank you for it. Art from Ohio
Yes bought it new in 2017. Work hard and have toys. But toys that I can do projects with and have nice things in life
Yes I have worked in the power house field sense 19 so that’s truly all I know and everything else I’ve learned through hard Knox’s or my dad teaching me…
Did you keep watching the videos?
@@studiy0702 Yes, I started with your oldest and am working my way forward leaving a thumbs up and positive comments on each one I watch. Like I said - I am your new cheerleader. I have said a lot of real good things about you and I really meant it. You should get a notification when someone comments on your videos - do you have that turned off?
@artszabo1015 no I see them. Just didn’t see anymore new comments from you. Was looking forward to reading positivity in the comments today
Well aren't you just the clever boy!! I love it - that is a slick way to bypass that foolish safety crap without altering the machine in any way. Now I have to ask you what you do for a living. That machine ain't cheap - $16K last time I looked. It is last and best REAL garden tractor on the planet. I am an old guy so I have a JD 318, a JD 212 and a JD 140 garden tractors, but the 758 is the real dream machine. Congratulations Stu. Art from Ohio PS; That 758 cost 5x what a brand new 1969 Mustang Mach1 cost!!!! FIVE TIMES!!!!
Just so happens my dad has a 1969 Mach 1 full restored in his garage
@@studiy0702 What a coincidence!! My brother bought one brand new, it was Gulfstream aqua with a 351 automatic and it cost $3200.00.
@artszabo1015 that’s cheap now days compared to new ones. But you still can’t beat per emissions muscle cars. A guy could afford to work on them back then. At least from what my dad says
I am 73 years old and I was cutting timber in the 60's, needless to say I am not your target audience. But to all you guys out there that are not crusty old men like me I strongly advise you to listen carefully to Stu, he is giving real good advice. OK Stu new subscriber here and I am going to binge watch your entire channel and I will try to be a loyal cheerleader for you. Art from Ohio PS; That "homeowner grade" equipment performs much better than I expected. Very informative video. Thank you Stu.
Thank you Art from Ohio!!!
Misleading Title. Basically no discussion about the 758 Tractor.
I’ve always dropped the mowing deck when doing any thing not related to mowing - yes it’s a PIA for what I have (30yr old WheelHorse), but it’s just a good practice IMHO
Yes next time when I’m doing anything blade related I’ll do that.. obviously should have don’t it from the beginning but hey got to learn some how.. lol
This was awesome to watch to see the before and after!! Great job husband, I’m so proud of you 😍
Thank you couldn’t of done it without you
Makes everything easier to work on the deck , a fen belt off a dump truck makes a great sling we have pulled engines using one there one piece and take a lot of torque
Well have never heard of that before. I’ve always had little slings and stuff I found over the years. I appreciate your comment and for watching along..
nice toes
Block wheels with wooden pieces. Safety! Safety toe boots! Glasses!
Yes sir i agree thanks for that reminder. I usually ware boots every day but in this case was a quick thought for the video and I shot it.. but definitely could have had something bad happen.. thanks again
I have a question sir . What is better The E series or D series in the John Deere ? I have a John Deere E120 an it's been great,my neighbor has D series and he has had problems. Is IT just a coincidence or is the E better then the D ??
Yes so my dad use to have the Deere E120 and I was a nice mower the only issue I remember was the deck was rusting out… are you looking at getting a new mower? I would agree with you and say it’s a coincidence and if you take care of your mower and he doesn’t that will lead to more issues also if he bought a lemon from the factory that could be a problem. I’m not sure truly on the E to D comparison to be honest. Just on what my dad had. We also had the GX335 and I was a great mower as well.
@@studiy0702 thank you for the reply !! So far so good with mine. I have it serviced every other year. I have a small yard so it doesn't get used a whole lot. I'm a disabled veteran and use it mainly to go to an from my car. Thanks again 🇺🇲🪖
There was only cosmetic changes between the two, mainly the hood
I think you’re right on that one..
That sure is a whole lotta mulch baby
Yes now my back is paying for it.
Isn’t it cheaper to buy it by the yard from somewhere?
I’m sure it is in bulk but I needed it on Sunday and delivered and I could find any on Sunday and the color she wanted
Good video, good information. Looks like you have a nice setup/shop there. 👍🏻
Thank you. Coming along. Still have clean up from winter.. and make some more shop videos. I will make another video soon about cleaning the deck and blade sharpening and using the wench in real life application
I use the harbor freight winch to lift bricks of cold hard cash
Nice setup! I am going to do something similar. Next time you remove and clean your deck, show it in action.
Will do
I love this garden tractor. Their is an aftermarket loader that's just as good for this model available. Rated at 400 pounds I think. I have a x738. Just so the wife and I don't mix up gas and diesel, but I have the rear bucket 3 piont hitch and rear pto with the upgraded air rid seat. Man that thing will go though anything.
Yes the 758 diesel is a beast.. yes I have seen the aftermarket loader made in Wisconsin I believe it’s called CTC. I would like to trade in the 758 maybe one day and get a loader tractor like 1025R something like that.. air ride seat must be freaking awesome
I would like to try a tiller on the 758 and see how it does!!
Thanks for watching a following along
Thee 1025r is thee most popular tractor we sold back when I worked for john deere. I wouldn't recommend trading it in for 1025r though. The reason for this for me is thee amount of maintenance points to grease. You can get a tiller for that model. The tractor you have now only has 3 points of grease. 2 I think on the mower deck and 1 in the front bottom hidden away. You already have the best tractor, but I do understand thee 1025r does have alot more features.
Yes I agree it would be nice to have a detachable loader with it as well as long as having a 3 point attachment. Because a plow for the loader is sweet back when I had my 2025. Also get everything in one shot factory made and not have to worry about aftermarket or adding options to my 758. Idk lots of thinking to do before pulling the trigger.
Wrong tires, turf's are worthless! Deck is also pushing dirt.
Yes but they’re not the standard turf tires in my opinion. There alittle more aggressive, but I don’t really need bar tires for it. Yes after is was don’t with the project definitely should have taken the deck off before starting! But HEY it’s a learning opportunity for all that have watched the video.
I have a 1025 r and thinking about a 735 just mow with it though
You’re thinking of getting a 735 to mow with? And then have your 1025R to have as loader tractor? Nice little tractor have you got all the bells and whistles?
@@studiy0702 Yes , a 735 just to mow with and use the 1025r for the loader ,tilling and backhoe work.
@00-by2jl how does the backhoe work for you? Obviously there are limitations to everything
Great for counter weight
@@studiy0702 backhoe works great . Just keep in mind your not using a mini excavator . I've dug stumps, replaced sewer lines, and stripped sod off just to name a couple of jobs
Does your truck have the Ecoboost. How do you like it.
Yes it has the 3.5L eco boost. I love it. Lots of power have had no problems with it.
I also have a x758 and love it. Have you found an innovative way to raise the deck up vertically for cleaning? I use to just be able to lift the front and raise it but as I get older that is becoming to much strain on the back. That deck is very heavy!
Yes in my shop I mounted a stick of 1”5/8unistrut to the ceiling, bought a cheap harbor freight electric winch. And some electric winch rollers off Amazon and mounted, I feel comfortable lifting 2-3 hundred pounds. Plugged it right into the garage door opener outlet. One the deck is off the mower you can wrap a strap around the front mower wheels and pick up the front to support it vertically. I don’t lift the deck off the ground but it’s safe enough to hold it up and change blades or clean deck, I have a a video of cleaning the deck using the winch so you can go check that out if you would like for more details.
Let me know if you want me to make a video of it.. and I will
@@studiy0702 Thanks for the quick reply. I did not find the video of you cleaning the deck using the winch. I would love to see that!
@@studiy0702 Would love to see the video!
Ok give me a few days to create it
I just traded in my 2018 with 347 hours for a $9000 allowance for my new 2024 758.
It’s going to be a definitely nice purchase when you get it home and run it for the first time.. that new tractor smell and feeling is freaking awesome.. send me a photo or 2 of your new ride. My email is on my channel main page. Thank you
did u not change the filter?
8:58 i diddd
nice work Stu
Thanks 👍
Wow, I would have definitely removed the deck first
Well after I got into it! That was my thought too.
I did something similar years ago with my wheel horse and ended up with a small raised section where the pile was originally that was packed so hard it was almost impossible to level.
Yes if you go back in my previous videos I had a tree fall down there and the junk dirt the neighbor hauled in was mostly clay and I was hard to level beside leaving a mind so to speak.. yes you are correct it was difficult. Thanks for the comment.
What was that mower belt looking thing on top of the dirt pile, just before video ends? The setup reminds me of my 20+ yr old non-hydraulic GT235 with 48" plow. I moved a lot of dirt with it, just like you are doing. Also manure piles from horses. Only the 54" mower deck has to come off, before plow goes on. Now have a 1025r, with loader, etc. I know you had a 2520 with loader. The garden tractor and heavy duty plow can do a lot for a homeowner. Including lots of snow removal. A loader is nice, but typically somewhere from doubles to quadruples the cost of the tractor/toy 😂
The rubber belt was just the junk dirt my neighbor delivered from his farm and had rubber belt it the pile.. yes a 1025r with loader and mower deck would be great for landscaping and pushing snow. But at the time all I need was the mower. Because I still had the 2520. Then sold that. Now definitely wanting a small loader tractor back again.. definitely an expensive toy. The only big plus for me is transporting material from one spot to another, a plow is hard to do that without getting it all over the yard. Just have to get the wife to sign off. Maybe one day you will see a new loader tractor on the channel. Fingers crossed. Thanks for leaving a comment. It’s nice to hear other guys have done the same type of things. Appreciate it.
