David S Wilson: Drawing & Painting Basics
Приєднався 26 вер 2020
My first few videos are about turning flat, 2-D shapes into 3-D forms. I recommend using ink pens to do away with the desire to always want to erase; therefore, concentrating on seeing into the paper rather than just left to right or up and down on the surface. At the end of these videos I often spontaneously draw whatever comes to mind with my pen, and once in a while I will devote an entire video to spontaneous drawing. I also teach basic oil painting techniques and color theory.

Perspective in a Landscape Part II

In this second part I demo how to draw the illusion of a hole in the ground and continue on with another selection of a forest of trees. When you draw branches draw them as they grow in real life, outward and away from the tree trunk.
Drawing a Cube
Переглядів 137 годин тому
In this video I develop a cube from a square in nine steps without using perspective lines and formal setups. No, it's not technically accurate following the exact rules of one point perspective; however the idea is to get you to see into the 3rd dimension by developing the form of a cube from the shape of a square by simply eyeballing it. To become proficient in drawing you must see into the p...

Underrated
This is my favorite sketch right here! Your very good. Any methods you did or studies because this is inspiring!
Thanks for taking the time to view my video! I've been drawing with the pencil for many years erasing and fighting to obtain "perfect forms" not realizing things in life are not perfect. I've purchased many academic and technical books on "How to Draw" yet still not really feeling good about my work or (the main thing) having fun and enjoying drawing. After all, if it's not fun, you're not going to want to do it. Don't get me wrong, understanding how to develop 2 dimensional shapes such as the Square, Rectangle,Triangle, and Circle into 3 dimensional forms: Cubes, Cylinders, Pyramids/Cones, and Spheres by creating the illusion of light & shadow is a major thing of practice. Finally as I watched many UA-cam tutorials of the Old Masters and recent comic book artist actually drawing and noticed everyone has a different appproach or way of seeing things, that eventually comes out as their "style". As I stated on one of my other videos, with a pen since you know you can't erase, believe it or not it frees your mind of that and you focus more on the forming of images in your mind and, since the mind controls the body, "commanding" your hand to follow through in forming said image on the paper. (hope that's not too confusing). You must form a mental library to pull from which takes time. Look at and through everything and think about how the light & shadow create that which you are looking at, fill your mental library and oh yes, you gotta draw daily if possible even for a few minutes. It may sound corny and simple but I actually found out that it's true (I'll spin this slightly): You learn to draw and get better at drawing by drawing"!. This and other videos are condensed for entertainment; however, I have some in their original form, realtime around and hour or more on my channel. Hopefully I have given you a spark of inspiration to keep at it (try the Gel pen) sign and date your work and look back at it in 6 months or a year and you will inspire yourself. Help someone else with what you learn and keep drawing!!
WOW. Thats pretty amazing work you did there. I want to study this sketch method your doing.
Thank you, of course it's sped up (I don't actually draw that fast), however, it's fun to simply draw with a Gel Pen and not worry about making mistakes. Drawing with ink you are aware that you can't erase anyway so after awhile you actually become more relaxed and stuff just flows. You will find that if you continue drawing with pens it will begin to strengthen the hand to eye coordination and as that becomes less and less of a concern, the images within your imagination come forth easier and flow right through the pen. Hope this gives you an idea how I do it, and you can see some of my drawing videos in realtime on my channel. Thanks again for viewing, and good luck!
You got good eyes and so professional in art my god
Thank you very much, toned paper drawing is a good bridge between drawing on white paper and painting. You put in the shadows AND the lights. Keep watching, thanks again.
That's cool
Thanks!, Now check out Part II, and stay tuned for 3 & 4.
This is beautiful work and great to learn…keep the videos coming
Thank you, I'm so glad you like it.
That us a gorgeously rendered dragon, that is!
Thank you, I'm glad you like it, my wife did the original Dot to Dot drawing which can be seen on one of my other videos.
awesome
Thank you very much! The hour long video where I explain in real-time what I'm doing as I'm doing it also is on another of my videos.
Thanks David very informative.
