Running out of time before having to board the ferry back to the mainland, we did an express trip up the west coast of Tassie, then along the north coast to Devonport. We ended up on stage during a play, saw some glow worms, hung out with some penguins and conquered the famous Climies Track!

Hobart itself is a beautiful old town with a picturesque little harbour at the base of the city. Hobart gave us our first and probably only experience in the snow we'll have during our trip around Australia. Branching out from Hobart we visited some historic towns, Bruny island, Port Arthur and spent some time with the awesome Tasmanian devils!

    How is the safari one when it’s raining.. seems like it would push water down into the box?

    • @jaylbreak7
      @jaylbreak7 2 роки тому

      When the vehicle is stationary the rain doesn’t seem to get in there. Whilst driving the air pressure forces the water to the outer edges of the snorkel head, then there’s small areas where that water can drain. I haven’t noticed any water in the air boxes on my previous vehicles fitted with snorkels either.

    Would you tow an off-road camper out there?

    • @jaylbreak7
      @jaylbreak7 3 роки тому

      You probably could, it might be slow going through the bumpy and tighter sections. Some of the water crossings were quite tight and deep towards the end, but the depth would probably vary throughout the year. So I guess it depends on your setup. We left our Ezytrail camper trailer at a nearby roadhouse which we stayed at for 2 nights.

    Great video. The first video or general information on the net that shows me how to drill and cut to mount my factory snorkel on the Land Cruiser that I found. Unfortunately, there is absolutely nothing on the net about this. I feel like I'm the only one who would like to mount the original snorkel... because hey, it's lying around here with me and other snorkels for the 200 here in Europe sometimes have delivery times of weeks and I'd rather not even talk about the price...

    So that factory hole that is still visible, is that likely to happen to anyone who follows the instructions to the letter or did something go a bit wrong with this one only?

    • @jaylbreak7
      @jaylbreak7 3 роки тому

      I followed the instructions and triple checked the template, once everything was cut out the snorkel slotted in really well. I’d assume it would be the same for everyone, however I never actually notice that a small part of that hole is showing.

  • @quinnmarsden9375
    @quinnmarsden9375 3 роки тому

    Thanks for the down to earth review mate. Can I ask you for your opinion on what you reckon the ride quality would be like with a long range fuel tank. Getting my LC 200 in May and deciding what GVM to get. 3800 or 4000kg. Fully laden around 950kg with 4000kg GVM if I decide to go that way. I estimate that when I drive around town I will unload some things with roughly 600 - 650kg payload. I plan to keep it a touch under 3800kg so as not to but to much stress on the drivetrain and diff housing

    • @jaylbreak7
      @jaylbreak7 3 роки тому

      Since the video I have installed the long ranger 277lt steel fuel tank and a set of rear draws. The springs have softened up a bit since I had them installed, even more with the extra weight. I’ve either got used to it being a bit firmer, or they’ve settled in really well with the current set up. It is a difficult decision, I went the 4t just because if I’m going to do it, I might as well get the bigger option. Of course it costs a bit more, but given the modifications and that I’m currently travelling around Australia, I’m happy I went for the 4t option, it’s crazy how quickly the weights add up! There’s also 4 spring options from memory, you could choose the lightest option and also have air bags installed so you can still handle the heavier loads when needed.

    • @quinnmarsden9375
      @quinnmarsden9375 3 роки тому

      Thanks mate. That helps alot with your feedback. I did wonder how it would ride with 3800kg on its limit and supplement with the air bags and if it does feel softer with 4000kg I reckon it will work. Have safe travels around Oz

    I noticed you kept mentioning the fact that the OEM snorkel is not properly water tight, did you have water entering your engine? In order for the water to go past those foam seals of the original Toyota snorkel you need the water depth to be as high as your door handles, I believe the car would float in such deep water🤣🤣🤣. Thanks for the video.

    • @jaylbreak7
      @jaylbreak7 3 роки тому

      I’ve had plenty of water over the bonnet on my previous vehicle so I wasn’t willing to take the risk on the foam seals! Cheap insurance as they say 😉

      Yeah there are quite a few bolts you'll have to order, I'm pretty sure that when I made the video I only mentioned the nuts and bolts that needed to be ordered, there were a small amount I re-used that I didn't list in the video.

      @@jaylbreak7 thanks mate so with the injector driver brackets there is 4 listed 2 look like they are holders for the injector drivers and the two you mentioned in the video are the main holders. Just wanted to confirm you only needed the two injector driver brackets you gave port numbers for and not the other two between drivers and the brackets in video? Hope that makes sense lol. • @jaylbreak7
      @jaylbreak7 3 роки тому

      There’s the two main brackets that bolt onto the body/engine bay that I listed in the video, the other two are almost like shims or thin covers/holders. These were still fitted to my injector modules so I didn’t have to order them. I hope that’s the info you are looking for!

    Great video thank you for posting. Interest to see more. About to do the same suspension set up as I’m going to add duel wheelcarriers, bull bar and winch, scrub bars, rear draws with large water tank, long range fuel tank, roof racks, alu RTT, awning, 2 adults and kids.....assume it will all add up to above a standard 3800kg kit. Especially given I occasionally tow 2t trailer (only a couple of times a year thou). The whole build for us will take about 2 years....with the intent being a 2 month Kimberley trip. Do you by any chance know your overhead vehicle clearance post install, atop the roof rack? Also do you know the ground to back seat height (I have a couple of people with mobility issues and am wondering if they can slide in like they do now)? And finally do you know if the suspension mob can level the back to forward body rake at all....once I have installed all this gear, I’m hoping the back end will drop a bit, but I don’t expect it to level front to back as much as I’d like.... Sorry for all the questions

    • @jaylbreak7
      @jaylbreak7 4 роки тому

      Thanks Chris! Sounds like your setup will be pretty heavy, I probably could of got away with the 3.8 tonne kit but thought if I’m going to get a gvm upgrade, I might as well get the biggest one available at the time! I managed to quickly grab some measurements for you, ground to top of roof rack is 2.04 meters, ground to top of rear seat is 1.03 meters. I am also running standard size tyres. The back end of my vehicle does drop down a bit once I’m loaded up, it pretty much sits level with the front and I can slightly adjust the rear height with the air bags. The front struts in this lovells kit are adjustable, so once fully set up the front ride height can be fine tuned to a certain extent.
