The narrative about alekhine refusing to play capablanca after he won the title was justified since he (capablanca) made it difficult for anyone to challenge him after he won the the title from lasker in 1921. Capablanca's demands were extraordinary so that very few players could come up with the money to play him, which enabled him to retain the title for longer period of time. After alekhine crushed capablanca in 1927, he gave capablanca a taste of his own medicine and refused to play that big ego ass capablanca. Alekhine was the better player anyway
