If you mean trekking poles, then plenty use them with trekking pole tents. Alternatively, as someone who's in their sixth decade, and whose knee's aren't getting stronger with age, then trekking poles are invaluable for balance, especially if you're carrying a heavier load, and as a wild camper and long distance hiker I do. Don't knock them until you've tried them, they're extremely useful, I say that as someone who has hiked over the Swiss Alps (Haute Route) using them.
