Rusty metal shear - fun restoration

In this video (my first) I restore a small metal shear which I found on a local fleamarket. Maybe not perfect, but it was a very fun small little project :-). I hope you like it and if you have some tips & tricks, please comment!

Feuerhand have been around for a very long time, and make probably the worlds best hurricane lanterns, your's is a slightly rarer 'Sturmkappe' version, made after WW2. how you can tell the difference is, the ones made before WW2 were marked 'made in Germany', and those made after the war were marked 'W. Germany' after East and West Germany split from each other and Feuerhand move their production to West Germany. I have a pre war Feuerhand 'superbaby 175' in nice condition I picked up at a secondhand markets where I live in Australia. 🙂

Do you have any catalog or reference site to look up the old models? I bought a similar one same brand but with a what looks like a bigger tank for oil. It looks a bit rusty and worn on the paint. But I'd like to know how they came from the factory.
I bought a Feuerhand 276 Baby Sturmkappe, with the extension reservoir for a bit under a liter of lamp oil, giving about 3 days of burn time give or take. It's very rusty and in yellow, you can barely see the lettering. But I'll remove the paint and perhaps give it some cold blueing treatment as you give with firearms. I prefer the somewhat metal look.
@@Andreas0705 Yes, I now have 2 of them with the larger reservoir as well, and they are both the 'Sturmkappe' version. I havent found any catalogues so far, but there are different groups you can google for more info.
what color did you paint the lamp with?
Motip Wheel lacquer Silver Grey (if I remember correctly :-))
Nice job. Great lamp. My only concern is the clear varnish. Will it be ok with high temperature on the chimney?
After three years the varnisch is still doing oke, with only light use of the lamp.
The amount of time, energy and effort you put into that thing is way more then the company ever spend on it. If you charge 10 euro's per hour just restoring this...I. mean, common. Germans still make these things for 40 euro's a piece brand new.
They do not produce this model anymore since long time so you can't buy it for 40 Euros. Check the prices in the web.
Restoring them well plus it's a rare model makes it worth way more than the standard you can buy new
Nice restoration! I found your video looking for info on this lantern. Found one today, someone had trown it out with the garbage. Very rusty, but worth a try.
Das bemalen der Schrift ist nicht originalgetreu. Beim original wurde die Schrift lediglich in die blechteile mit eingestanzt. Trotzdem gute Arbeit.
