    Years before I bought my Generac 6500. Being brand new I never even unboxed it, It was a Generac. When I pulled it out to use, fueled it up it ran like a champ, 2 pulls fired right off, The engine side ran just fine, no electrical out put. So this being my 5th Generator I have bought only to have the windings fail, I am going solar with a battery warehouse back up.

    One advice! In additional to gas generator get 2 or 3 electric power stations Anker, EcoFlow, or Jackery, 1000 or 2000 watts. Use your gas generator only to charge your electric power stations! Now days most of power stations have a fast charging ability, so you will be able to charge them in 1 or 2 hours and after that you can use this power stations for a 24 hours on your refrigerator, lights, and Induction Cooktop. This way you will have gas for a long long time! Good luck 🍀 🤞

    Better to get batteries and solar panels. Use gas generators as a backup for a backup. Cook and heat with fire wood but obviously have wood stored in a wood shed to keep it dry.

    Generator run time should leave generous down time. Start with 6hrs On, 6 Off, 2 ea run cycles per day. Adjust schedule as req'd. Lock fridges & freezers if necessary during Off periods (kids frequently don't get it). Gas storage: run stored gas thru your car every so often & refill jugs, use Seafoam additive for longer storage periods.

    You can run a room's power just by hooking the generator to any of that room's wall sockets and disengaging the fuse in the fusebox for that room. That isolates the room's electrical loop so the power that would normally be provided by the mains instead comes in via the generator. That way, you only need to have 1 extension running from the generator to that one room and you just use the power from that room's sockets normally.

    Be careful about storing gas inside. Many insurance policies forbid it, for good reason. Best is a shed or at least something to keep the rain off it, situated a good distance from the house or garage. Out and away there are less ignition sources, and if it does ignite then further away from the house and garage is obviously better. If you can afford it, investigate battery power stations, or if you have the electrical skills a less expensive DIY power station with batteries, inverter, and charger. If the power station(s) can run your most important needs then you can probably get by with a smaller generator running only to charge the power stations, and definitely run a generator for less time to do that (instead of 24 hours a day to power everything). Solar panels are not required. In this scenario I recommend a power station(s) that can run what you need for at least 8-12 hours (the longer it runs the less often you need to run the generator - once or twice per day is my personal limit). The generator needs to provide 3x your "average" load to charge the power station(s) faster than it uses power to run the load(s). To determine the average power, do a dry run. Connect everything to the power station(s) and run for at least one day. The total usage (computed by the power station or ...), divided by how many hours it ran will give average usage per hour. Your generator needs to provide at least 3x that number - remember you don't want to run the generator all out, and the power stations will only charge just so fast. Usually up to 10x the average is plenty, bordering on wasting money.

    Forget gasoline or diesel- they only have a shelf life of about a year - go with propane - it’s shelf life is unlimited, get yourself a 100lb or even a 400lb tank and you’re good to go for the long haul

    Destruction comes upon anyone unaware. Stop building bigger and better barns but instead open the empty room in your heart so the King of Glory can seat on the throne of your heart.How you say do I build up treasures where moths, thieves, and destruction does not steal? Jesus is making a list for anybody to come attend this banquet. Say this to Him: Forgive me for all my sins. I believe you died in the cross and rose 3 days after. I invite you into my heart to be Lord and Savior.Whenever a disaster happens God sees you as one of His daughter and son. He provides safety and provision in a storm.

    Pro tip: to avoid all the extension cords, have an electrician wire a 30amp cord into your main service panel. That will allow you to power your whole house from the gennie. We are 100% off-grid solar but do have several days a year where we need the portable gennie. Our service panel is in our laundry room, so the electrician put a 4" PVC pipe from the outside into the laundry room with a PVC cleanout cap to close it when not needed. In rainy conditions, we hang a tarp over the gennie. Stay safe!

    Lau me to add a few tips on gasoline storage for your generator. Never use anything but alcohol gas, no ethanol. Integrate too fast. Store only in NATO style metal gas cans. I have stored this type of fuel in those type of cans for over five years and it runs perfectly fine you don’t need any additives or stabilizers.

    I like dual fuel generators - propane Never goes bad - I have 4ea Full 40 lb tanks (and wanting to add 2 more) stored in my shed just for the generator , plus 3 ea. 20 lb'r s that we use for grills and fire pits normally. I figure 30-40 lbs per day. I have AA battery lanterns and a battery stash. Cooking - I have propane camp stoves plus grills and smokers and 1/4 cord of wood. For Heat - I have Kerosene space heaters and 20 gallons of kerosene in my shed. Kerosene has a long shelf life - up to 5 years in sealed containers.

  • @gregorymacneil2836
    @gregorymacneil2836 6 днів тому

    How long did you store your gas? Generally, I keep six cans of fuel on hand, but I add a fuel stabilizer treatment, like B3C Ethanol Shield, and replenish the supply by using a can every two weeks in my truck. This ensures that my emergency fuel supply is always at most three months old. I store it in a shed.
 I also ensure that my vehicles are refilled before any major weather event, charge all my tool batteries (work lights), and know where the lamp oil for my Dietz Hurricane lanterns is located. It's best to cook on a gas barbecue or an alcohol-burning Trangia stove; if you have enough fuel, you can survive for weeks with them. Many people do not correctly estimate the power required from generators, resulting in purchasing one that is either too large or too small. Mine will run my furnace and freezer in the winter and all my refrigeration in the summer. Anything with a motor needs enough generator capacity to account for motor start-up. The idea is to size the generator to your minimal needs and store it properly. Yes, you need extra oil, air filters, and spark plugs. In a cold environment, make sure there are enough winter-grade sleeping bags for everyone.

    DVC was a fantastic purchase for my family 25 years ago, but the costs today are more than triple what we paid. Our kids have grown-up going to Disney locations, but now we rent our points since we don't need the same size accommodations any longer. We still have annual passes, but only for my wife and I. We've definitely received our money's worth for the DVC purchase.

    Wow, I can't remember having any scenario like this in the UK, where I live near London. I mean we did have a power cut for 2hours once, which was inconvenient as I was just about to start cooking dinner. I don't know anyone who owns a generator. Couldn't imagine being without power for days. Once we had water supply issues for most of a weekend but the water company handed out bottled water at the local supermarket and we had a cold water tank in the loft so we could still flush the toilet and wash hands etc. Might be a bit different in the remote parts of the UK.

    Ive never owned a generator, and used to just wait it out and took my losses on my refrigerated food,mut my mindset has changed alot. We too cooked on an open fire and used our charcoal grill until the charcoal was gone. Ive since ordered us a dual burner propane camping grill and bought plenty of extra propane. Ive bought some good heavy duty extension cord. I am gonna buy a generator ,but dont wanna settle so im waitin for next years income tax return to buy a honda. Been doin alot of research on fuel storage too,so hopefully thatll pay off. Fresh water in large amounts would be tricky,but like you coffee and some cooking its a must

    Just a quick note. The points per night / week can change from year to year. If they want to change the points for a week , they have to lower the points somewhere else on the chart. Think of it this way. they can move points around the chart anyway they want., but what can’t change is the total point number ( like a spreadsheet all the points in a vertical column also have equal the same number in the horizontal column) I hope this make sense. They usually don’t modify the points charts to much, I have seen them increase because of popularity and holidays. I think is still a good buy if you use it.
