Oh Bonnie, Im so sorry about the loss in your family. Sudden unexpected tragedy is so overwhelming. My niece's 16 year old son passed away 2 weeks ago. Just collapsed from cardiac arrest out of the blue, no idea why. My heart goes out to you and your family. Our dear Savior always has a plan and its not within our ability to understand it all. He knows what must be and I trust in Him as I know you do too. Im so thankful we are able to reunite with our loved ones in eternity. My thoughts and prayers are with you. God bless 🙏🌺💜🌺💜🌺💜🌺🙏

As a German I am shocked what you are calling “Pumpernickel” over there 🫢 This has nothing to do with what we are calling Pumpernickel. It would have only 3 ingredients: water, salt and broken rye grains forming a clayish dough, all together baked at low temperature in a closed box for at least 16 hours. It would have an almost black, humid, sticky and very dense crumb. You need to be standing while swallowing and better alone the hours after eating it :) But incredible taste, very sweet, only due to the enzymatic processes during the long baking. Again, only rye grains - optionally a bit of sourdough as well.

No sugar goes in the cake batter? Not such how this cake would taste like a cake or doughnut, with no sugar added to the batter… Doughnuts & cakes are supposed to taste sweet… this would be like baking a loaf of bread🍞just add yeast to this recipe, & take away, minus the vanilla & nutmeg…. lol!!! But I’d say you just forgot to add the sugar!
