Relaxing, themed photo walks with cool gear. Thanks for watching!
Relaxing I SPY Themed Photo Walk // Nikon Zf
Time to unwind. The theme is, "I Spy," (as in "I spy with my little eye, something that starts with the letter...") and the gear is a Nikon Zf with Leica Summicron-M 50mm f/2 v4. I chose this combo because I wanted to give this cool lens another go after reading up on best practices for using it with the TTArtisan adapter. This episode’s photo walk took place at the AK Smiley Public Library in Redlands, California. I didn’t manage to find all the ABCs before running out of battery, so if you’d like to see a Part 2, please leave a comment and subscribe. Thanks!

Three Days in Oregon with the Hasselblad X2D + 38mm f/2.5

Hello friends. This episode’s photo walks took place at several locations along the Oregon coast during a long weekend visit to see my brother. First up is the Astoria Riverwalk, some roadside vistas, the Tillamook Air Museum, and then back to Astoria for a little tugboat action, some deer just outside my brother’s house eating leaves from the neighbor’s garden, and a brief piano jam from @grah...
Hasselblad X2D vs Cannon 😉 A Civil War Themed Photo Walk

Hello friends. This episode’s photo walk took place at the Lincoln Memorial Shrine in Redlands, California. Every year, the 1st Pennsylvania Light Artillery provides a history lesson and firing of the reproduction Model 1857 Napoleon 12-pounder field gun. I chose the Hasselblad X2D because I thought I would be far away from the action and wanted the 100 megapixel files for cropping. I was wrong...

Time to unwind. The theme is, "Trees," and the gear is a Hasselblad 38mm f/2.5 lens on the Hasselblad X2D. I chose this combo because the medium format sensor and Hasselblad Natural Color Solution make for amazing landscape stills. The combo was fun to use, but I did wish I had a wider lens for certain extra large subjects. tree: a woody perennial plant, typically having a single stem or trunk ...

Time to unwind. The theme is, "Geometry," and the gear is a Nikon Zf with Voigtlander 65mm f/2 macro lens. I chose this combo because it allows for both close focus and offers a little bit of reach. All photos were taken in aperture priority at f/8. The lens was fun to use, but I struggled (perhaps unsurprisingly) to get sharp, handheld images at the minimum focus distance. geometry: the shape ...

For this episode I joined @bruceherwig on his DIY edition of the Redlands Emerald Necklace Grand Tour. With over fifteen stops on our tour, we set out to photograph the swath of green that encircles Redlands, California this time of year. Our friend Scott provided the replica Porsche 356 Speedster and it really added a fun layer of context to the scenes. Photos were made with the Leica M11 and ...

The assignment for this episode was APPLES. I wound through Los Rios Rancho and Children's Forest in Oak Glen, California with the Hasselblad 500CM, Zeiss 80mm f/2.8, and a roll of Fujicolor 400H. It was a cold February morning, but when you think apples you think Oak Glen, so off I went to do my best. One thing I noticed was how good the images are. I know you have a Sumicron lens but is it the TT artisans adapter that allows such goodness? For some reason unknown to myself I like the perpendicular image
Thank you! I don't think the adapter adds anything to the image. The smartest thing it does is send the 6-bit info from the lens to the Zf, which allows for focus confirmation and some EXIF data in Lightroom.
T - Z would be a great video, but also N feels like cheating just a slight bit, or at least it's being very C for cheeky. Also, just out of curiosity have you thought about doing one of these videos at night?
No, I haven't really thought about going out at night, but that's a good idea! Especially with winter right around the corner and its early evenings.
This is SO clever! I love the project. Wow. How super fun is this?
Glad you like it! Thanks for the feedback ❤️
My friend said this episode is giving Sesame Street and I’m cool with that 😊
Your mother was my good friend. I miss her laugh and smile. She was lots of fun! She would have been so proud of you and your brother and your creative pursuits. I've subscribed so I can follow you and your photo adventures.
Your comment has made my day ❤️ Thank you so much. Always a pleasure to hear from friends of Mom.
Challenge here city-bound NY NY is to find nature. Just spent myself out, sort of. for that Voightlander 65 and also the V. 15 f/4.5. On Zf. Really love the challenge of the 15. It's so fine in good light and with right subject.
Very nice. I'm planning on getting the 15mm one day so I can do a wide angle themed episode.
Complimenti scatti molto belli! Mi piace molto il voigtlander 60 macro. Lente fantastica. Ciao 🎉🎉🎉
Beautiful photos 😊
Thanks so much 😊
Loved this one!! Gorgeous photos and that’s the perfect music for it 💕
Thank you! Your comment has made my day!
That was Nice ! Merci
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching!
Yay, what beautiful Hasselblad shots you got! Your version of the Lightship Columbia is bomb, particularly of the sun-backlit light bucket. I think your brother is the MASTER of roadside misadventure! Other fave shot: Ollie & Graham knuckle bumping in the cockpit, soooooo precious! We do have great city deer, it’s true. Thank you!
Thank you so much Celeste ❤️ I am proud of the lit up light bucket. As soon as Graham mentioned that was the ship’s purpose I went about trying to show that somehow. Graham and I have definitely had our share of driving misadventures 🤣 Thankfully he’s a wiz with engines and tools.
Nice trip and shots!
Thank you for watching!
What a good one! A. Nice Friends reference. B. You got a flat!?
Thank you! Yes we got a flat but Graham had that tire swapped out in less than 15 minutes!
Beautiful! and thank you for these photowalks. Though was slightly anxiety inducing seeing you hold the Hassy out over the water like that lol.
I really should have used a strap, but I didn't want anything to obstruct the view of the rear screen for my awesome subscribers! 🙂
Great location and amazing photos! Had a lot of fun looking at photos. Thank you for sharing video!
Thanks for watching! Your channel made me want the X2D 👍🏻
Really inspirating video!
I really appreciate you saying so!
I think instead that you made a great job with the Hasselblad, didn't you? I have a Canon 6D that I use the most at the moment with the Canon EF 40mm F2.8 and, in the passage to mirrorless, I am valuating different systems including Hasselblad. I know that in the X2D 100C menu you can put the lens focus to infinity and I think that with a lens such as the 38 F2.5 if you set the camera in this way from 2-3m to infinity you have all in focus and you can shoot very fast because you don't need to move the focus point on the camera and in this way, with Hasselblad, you can be even much faster respect to other systems, am I wrong? Have you ever tested the camera in this way?
Thank you for saying that. I met up with a few other photographers I know and they were all trying to get a photo of the flame coming out of the cannon; in that regard the X2D was a poor choice. You are right about the ability to zone focus with the new V lenses. I didn't do that in this episode, but I've done it before. That would have been a smart move for getting some street-style photos of the actors. Another great idea to add to the list for next time!
@@StillWinding Ah, ok, got it, and was someone of them able to take the picture of the flame coming out of the cannon?
Yes, check out @4thomasjackson on Instagram. He took some great high speed photos.
I wonder what your take is on Hasselblad vs Nikon colours, since you shoot both. IMHO Nikons standard picture profile (SD) is too saturated and high contrast. It's more of a signature profile rather than an accurate representation of what the eye sees. I especially don't like the greens. A standard profile should be a neutral starting point, as close to reality as possible.
Hasselblad colors are amazing. The files are a breeze to work with. I haven't had enough time with the Nikon Zf to really say either way. And I don't even own a Nikon Z lens, just the Voigtlanders and a Leica adapter. I'd love to try one some day and get a better feel for Nikon's capabilities. What I've heard is that Z files are very nice for skin tones.
The right camera for the job would've been a Canon, no? lol! I'll see myself out...
I bumped into four of my photographer friends at the event. All of them shooting Canons :)
I have the Hasselblad X2D with the 38v and love this setup so much. It's a joy to use. Great video thanks for sharing your walk through the trees.
You're welcome! Thanks for commenting, it really helps keep me going 👍🏻
Man, you missed an and…. If you would have included the whole word, “STOP” in the police car image, it would have been killer! But it’s easier for me to sit here and give constructive critique rather than go out taking photos, so kudos to you for a great video. I enjoyed it!
That would have been a great "and," and thanks for the kudos!
Thank you for this video! I havn‘t used any filters yet. Greetings Klaus
You're welcome. Thanks for the comment!
Thank you for this really relaxing Photo Walk with beautiful pictures! Greetings from Germany, Klaus
Thank you, Klaus! Greetings from California 🙂
so beautiful..... Jpg file?
Thank you so much. Yes you’re looking at jpgs in the video.
Take the Hassy and Leica definitely. Both are pinnacle goalz cameras 🙌🏼🏔. Also more raw MP compared to Nikon Zf Their cost alone justifies using them more to get moneys worth haha, and neither is a slouch in specs :) Personally i subscribed for the X2D pics 🙌🏼paired with relaxing video, though i am admittedly curious about the Q3
Maybe the Oregon video could be a photo comparison between them. Oregon is beautiful, so it will feel like missing out only getting to see it through one camera haha Also would probably draw in some more subscribers/viewers, looking to choose or just curious etc. Seems like not many people have both, or atleast not owned at same time, to do direct photo comparisons.
Thanks for all the input. You make some great points. I was really hoping to show some restraint and just take one body and lens, but the comments are encouraging me to consider taking more.
I found a few hidden faces in the sequoia grove. Great narrating and witty humor , Love It!
Many thanks! I didn’t think to look for faces. What a fun idea for next time 👍🏻
Loved it, such in-tree-guing photos! 🌲🌴
😆 Glad you enjoyed it!
Take Hassy & Q3 with you to Oregon.
That would be awesome. Maybe I can rent a longer lens for the X2D since the 38mm is so close to a full frame 28mm.
I SWAM IN THAT POND
YOU FOOL!
@@StillWinding it became a problem!
@MIMduo 😂😂😂
The Nikon Zf with the Voigtlander 35mm f/2 apo for your upcoming trip to Oregon 😊
Thanks for the feedback 👍🏻 I'll definitely consider that combo!
Take the X2D
💯🇹🇷⭐️👍 I have 1 of this F3 device, it is very clean, it is for sale, if anyone is interested, there is a video on my UA-cam channel.
Great shots. Easy sub.
Thank you. I really appreciate the comment and sub :)
Geome trees. lol!
🙂 glad you liked that one.
Grate video, thank you! Do you edit your photos or shoot in JPEG?
Thank you! I shoot RAW and edit in Lightroom.
@@StillWindingwhen you drop them in light room do they revert to color then you reapply a black and white profile ? I heard that the zf doesn’t shoot black and white like a true monochrome sensor.
@@socialbender You're right, one does have to reapply a black and white profile in LR. It's not a true monochrome sensor like the Leica M or Q Monochrom bodies.
Nice catch on the parallelograms! This could be used in a math lesson 🤓
You're very kind! Thanks for watching!
Love what that camera can resolve in an image!
It opens up a whole new world. Thanks for watching!
I have the exact same cameras - and a Leica M8 - but just learned that you could get a Leica adaptor for the Nikon!!!
Yes there are a few to choose from. Techart even makes one that allows you to use autofocus with M lenses on the Z mount!
Nice subbed. I hope the Q2 doesn't mean you've 'stopped winding'. 😂
Thank you. I have stopped winding film these last few months especially. It seems to come in waves with me. I'm sure I'll get back into it again soon :)
@@StillWinding It does come waves. And it gets expensive lol.
@WideAppeal lol yes so expensive 💸 Thanks for subbing. Soon I’ll be able to afford more film haha!
Sorry not very inspiring 👎🏻👎🏻
And what was the specific purpose of this vlog... comparison of cameras... photos... I can't find any specifics... best regards
My mission was to create a relaxing photo walk focusing on piers and cool camera gear.
I was just in Harbor Village on Sunday.
loved this video. Thanks - the music was a great choice too. SOOOOO relaxing
Much appreciated ❤️ Thanks for watching!
Loved that rainbow-y shot over the side.
Thank you! That was such a lucky surprise to see when I edited the photos.
A pier photo walk! How fun. But no dogs? I mean, telling me that up front... ;) (Thanks for sharing. How fun!)

Well, you've got a new sub. This is so good! Love it. :)
I really appreciate it!
what you use for recording that video ?
I used the Insta360 Go 3S with the cap mount. Do you like how it looked?
