Thanks for this, very helpful
I was curious what the torque specs were as well. I bought a used 2022 with the damper already installed by the PO, so I've got no instructions. Unfortunately, one of the cap bolts clamping the bracket to the steering down tube were broken and I had to get a replacement. Because of that little incident I want to go over the entire install myself and will need the torque specs to do that.
We will be happy to provided printable instructions if needed. The broken fastener is usually due to improper installation methods and the instruction not be followed. Not to mention over torquing the fastener in question. Please feel free to contact us directly at info@RykerMod.com
@@rykermod3521 I'm going to take you up on that offer for the instructions. The PO couldn't find the ones that came with the kit, so I would like to have a set just for the record.
What is the torque??
Please contacted us directly for technical information needed. Info@RykerMod.com
Thanks for taking the time to post this. Just a quick comment: instead of eyeballing the center of each screw, it's simpler and more precise to just hook the tape measure over the back screw, and measure to the same edge of the front one.
Question so when you do your oil change, do you have to remove the front bracket that’s on top of the filter to do your oil change?
We usually remove the rod connecting bolt on the front bracket and leave the bracket in place. We have some guys in the shop that can do an oil change without removing anything.
I added one last summer and after only 4500 miles it started leaking oil.
The dampers are warrantied, if you are the original owner of the kit.
I understand that your focus is on the Ryker; however, since you also engineer & fabricate, I was hoping for input (on a ‘relative’ application). For Dual-Sport / Enduro motorcycles, the go-to seems to be the ‘pod’ style damper (e.g. Scotts). I have had many street/sport bikes, but not dirt bikes. Do you think that a linear damper would/could work on a dirt bike ? Or, can you think of a compelling reason why they don’t seem to be used other than folks’ need to buy expensive bling ? I appreciate you. Sharp parts design & production. Excellent explanations.
Linear Dampers are available for dirt bikes. In the shop we install them on road bikes. I suggest finding a group like GS adventurers or a group relative to the bike in question. I'm sure you'll have plenty of enthusiast that can help.
Is there a different on the road 🤔
Please read the comments below. It eliminates handlebar shake and the unsettling shifty and drifting feeling when riding on rough roads.
Hi for anyone that has this installed I have a question. It appears that the assembly covers the oil filter cap. Do you need to remove the whole assembly when doing an oil change?
You do not, however we sometime remove the damper rod from the front bracket for bigger hands:)
How about the adjustment on the dial
We have our set on 4-5
Hi what is it size of braket ?
Hey Jeff, the instruction give an upper limit of 10. However, we suggest setting your stabilizer to 4-6. Most of our bikes that we have and install. We set to 4. We do have some heavier men that prefer higher settings. However, let’s understand the assembly. The stabilizer is installed as a shock arrester. The lower the setting, the better for the rider. The higher, the setting, the more restriction. For bigger, stronger people this may not be an issue. But for most riders we find 4-6 being the sweet spot.
Ok I have a question and no matter were I search cant get the answer... The instructions and such are great but it says in multiple places do not go over setting 6. on mine it does run awesome at five or six. However I wonder if 7 or 8 might even be better. But for the life of me I cant find any information. In one video someone ran it at 8 but he had very little information. Any chance someone can help? I don't want to mess it up by going higher. I tried the web site but cant find a phone number for the company...
Our suggestion is to not go over 10 in the instructions supplied with the kit. However do remember this damper is a shock arrestor and really does not require much pressure to do so. Our email address is on the contact page of the website:) Info@rykermod.com
Read all the reviews and decided to purchase one. Man they were not lying no kidding this is a GAME CHANGER..... It really feels MUCH MORE STABLE AND LESS VIBRATION THRU THE WHEEL DEPENDING ON THE ROAD. The videos were spot on and it took about and hour or so. I will say though that I need some slight adjustment of a 1/8 or 1/16 hereor there to make it so it did not jam or bottom out the cylinder. on full turn to one side. I do feel this is my sport model and not the kits fault. If you need to adjust just do a little at a time and you will be fine. Drove 100 miles today at the 5 setting and seems to be perfect. I was unable to find a video describing why to set it at only 6 at the highest but with so many people saying either 4 but no higher than 6 I don't think I want to test it out lol. Over all THIS IS A MUST HAVE FOR A RYKER.
Contact us when you’re ready:) we’ll be here to help.
Just did the steering stabilizer want to do this when i can afford it or at the very least the end links
Thanks for the video this helped me out
I wish i could afford this but my wife told me i was done buying parts for my ryker this year .
I wish you would have shown the adjustment. It seems that both cap bolts are fixed, but I'm not sure -Hence my previous comment. I also wonder why the end is so long. Couldn't you just cut off several inches of the rod?
The system needs the full stroke of the the stabilizer to work properly, if you cut the rod; the rod will travel inside the stabilizer body and and damage the stabilizer.
@@rykermod3521is the steering stabilizer rebuildable?
What stabilizer is that you have installed?
www.rykermod.com We own the intellectual property for the Stabilizer.
@@rykermod3521 Looks like this system is fairly different from what you are currently selling? Are you planning to produce this for sale as well. Since it seems to connect directly to the tie rod and then to the pitman arms it would seem that this system would have a more direct impact on damping the steering?
Great vid Sir , very informative and detailed you didn't get a lot more views, thankyou
Fantastic level of detail on these install instructions. Thank you much!
Thank You
Great video of the removal and installation of the new stainless sway bar. It must handle great now? I see you have already installed a steering stabilizer and how much did that improving the handling?
It is a dramatic difference. The Drifty feeling and handlebar shake is gone.
Triple checked all my measurements with a machinists ruler. Brass rod gently pushes up against the bottom of the air box but clears the bottom panel. On our other bike it misses the air box but brushes the bottom panel. Otherwise very happy with the performance of the damper.
your esperience whit this device????
A steering stabilizer for the Can-Am Ryker style of bikes.
Hello, where did you get the other steering clamp since I have seen that they only sell them with one, thanks from Mexico
The clamps ares manufacture by RykerMod and sold as a kit www.rykermod.com we have 3 kits to choose from.
Would bolt cutters be able to cut the sway bar, or is it hardened to the point bolt cutters won't work?
Bolt cutters can work however they need to be 36 inch or larger.
Just installed kit as per instruction and video. End of damper hits plastic. Help
Allen send pictures to us, We can help... info@rykermod.com you can also watch this video. ua-cam.com/video/8h5tgNgdzJc/v-deo.html
Looks great Richard
Thank You Sir.
Do you have to torque them down? Inch pounds?
The torque spec for a 6mm 8.8 bolt is 12 NM. There is a measure of safety when using the factory bolt and nut. As the nut is a Nylock nut and will retain itself and will not loosen.
I found out the hard way and snapped my bolt in half last night with a torque wrench on the Baja end links . My torque spec was correct too
What are the dimensions of the spacers please ..I need to make a couple as mine are missing .
Get in touch with us and we can send replacements. Info@rykermod.com
Got mine today. New 2022 owner here and thanks for selling me a piece of junk! Kidding, totally kidding. Great quality, great video and it rides AMAZING. Took me an hour and 1/2. I am not very mechanically inclined but it turned out exactly in perfect position. Would have been done a lot sooner if I wouldn't have messed up 1 of the measurements. Far as I'm concerned this is a must have if your riding on roads like me (Indiana) Thank you, great experience all the way around
Seems a litle too expensive. I forgot to say that your install video was easy to understand and follow. Thanks.
Worth every penny:)
I've watched several install videos and every one has a different outcome as to where the rod travels. When I installed mine I was careful to get all the measurements correct but my rod also hit the plastic. After double checking all measurements to confirm they were spot on I ended up moving the back bracket slightly up. Now the rod doesn't hit the plastic.
Got mine today and installed. Very nice kit. The parts are top notch and the instructions are above and beyond. Significant difference in handling and stability. Nice job.
Thank You
Why so expensive? Can get them for other bikes for under $100.
Ohlins stabilizers SD 002 and SD 003 units retail for $565.00, Counterfeit Ohlins units are less but in no way even comparable. www.amazon.com/Ohlins-Steering-Damper-Sd-003/dp/B00AIDZXTC/ref=mp_s_a_1_16?crid=3P75WHG6KX314&keywords=ohlins+sd&qid=1666298527&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIxLjY2IiwicXNhIjoiMC4wMCIsInFzcCI6IjAuMDAifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=ohlins+sd+002%2Caps%2C82&sr=8-16&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.2b70bf2b-6730-4ccf-ab97-eb60747b8daf
Can you prove your statement above is true? What subjective testing can be shown to justify the price?
I really like this product, it definitely makes for a more controlled ride.
I'll be ordering a few things when I get my 2023
It works just great 😁
Thank You:)
Like it
Thank You:)
About time man they should have done this at can am from he start
They designed the Ryker like their Bombardier snowmobiles. Snowmobiles don't need a stabilizer but these Rykers sure do! I'll be installing one on my wife's 900 soon...
Nice video
Nice Video! Great Product! I'll try and get one to review on my channel soon!
You mentioned adjusting the wheel, but what number are you setting it to (does setting it to a higher number make it harder to steer) ?
Adjustment instructions are covered in the installation manual. To answer your question stabilizers are not installed for restriction but for shock arrest. It is a best practice to set your stabilizer to its minimal affective setting.
Why didn't you just use a shorter bolt in the rear mount instead of the spacer for the stabilizer ?
This allows one to upgrade to an Ohlins damper later without needing a new hardware kit.
Can the oil filter be changed with the damper installed?
Great question, I would like to know that as well
It can, Reposition the crossbar bracket so the oil canister fasteners are still accessible.
@@rykermod3521 Do you have a measurement for the move or just wing it?
@@ShaughnGray we provide written instruction and pictures with the kit. The video also gives the required dimensions.
@@rykermod3521 I installed it by instructions. You said move it to clear the oil canister. How many inches do I add to the original instructions?
Great video on how to troubleshoot this issue.
What's the advantage of going with the upgraded version?
Ohlins is a truly superior stabilizer, used in most competitive arenas like Moto GP, Motocross and the like. The technology built into their product is considered industry best. To find out more on what makes them so good visit www.Ohlins.com . It's more than I can cover here. Now a quick comment on the JFG Universal stabilizer. It works and works well for the everyday rider. It is a good quality unit and is a great application for anyone wanting to improve stability and confidence.
Thx for the info. I'm interested and will look into this.
