A cooking show has no right to go as hard as it does. Western D&D inspired with great story and AAA quality world building, like it is rare to find shows with world building as solid as this. I won't spoil anything but the story is about the group of 3 MCs who are trying to save one of the MC's sister after failing to slay a dragon. They have to rush to get back there to revive her so without cash and time to prep delve into the dungeon with intent to grab monsters to eat alone the way. The Dwarf meets them and they form a party where it turns out the Dwarf basically is a god at monster prep and cooking and they make their way to save her killing and eating fantasy monsters along the way in very interesting ways. They even go into the ecology of the dungeon in a VERY realistic and incredibly thought out way. 100% worth the watch, it is a breath of fresh air in the fantasy anime world. Also the animation is god tier, Trigger already is really good with animation but they have really stepped it up a notch. Not to mention the shit posts the animators put into the show itself like a freeze frame and digital zoom on someone's face reacting to something, so much love was put into this show and it would be criminal not to give it a shot. Also everything I said is more or less dealt with in the first ep so no spoilers.

Sainr Seiya and Bubblegum Crisis have the best songs. Ikimonogakari's songs for Naruto Shippuden are are good. Space Runaway Ideon is not Gundam, but it was made by Yoshiyuki Tomino who made Mobile Suit Gundam.

Lakan’s guilt is waiting 1000 days without contacting her. I don’t blame him from missing her hint before he left, nor do I find him solely at fault. Fengxian and Lakan have a lot of trouble communicating so they miss so much. Maomao does not hate him, but his neglect of Fengxian for 1000 days cannot be entirely excused. Therefore he has much to atone. However, the brothel and Fengxian hiding Fengxian’s survival albeit diseased spreads the “blame.” Simple communications could behave either avoided trouble or at least create chances to restore closeness. Pride and shame ruined this.

Fengxian The people who Maomao cherishes, Loumen, old lady, Meimei, Juka, Pairin, perhaps her mother, Fengxian, need closure and this her way of perhaps not healing but closure so all of them can move forward. Lakan was self aware of his issues that his Uncle Loumen tried to help him. But in his arrogance he did not try to really understand those around him. His failure to connect either Fengxian or understand her communications with him. After THREE years he finally understood. He was not malicious just lazy and neglectful - abandoning Fengxian dooming her to her shameful state and disease. Maomao understands it was not all his fault so she does not hate him but also has no affection for him. His stupidity does not excuse him nor does she forgive him, but does not see him as malicious. He may even a grown more self aware ergo his clumsy attempts to connect with his daughter whose mother he abandoned for 3 critical years. Recall her comment she lost ability for love in Fengxian womb. Lakan’s obsession and joy in games he ignored and forgot about Fengxian even though she wrote so many letters. He was not evil but he has so much to atone for. 3 years 3 years 3 years 3 years and did nothing to maintain connection. Again in 1000 days he did not contact Fengxian.

No you're right. Its not a spoiler they epxlained it this ep or implied it. He intentionally let her win, and she intentionally wanted to do it with him. Seems like she wanted to have his baby. She was going to get bought out but the buyer backed out when her condition became appparent. Lakan didnt come back. She gave birth then and had to support herself as a now almost zero worth courtsan to get by. Thats how she got the syph. Then went mad. The finger thing is a cursing thing. If you rewatch, he mentions the "other little finger". Rewatch the eps, do you remember seeing mao mao look at or touch her own pinky?

I noticed two things 1. Lakan apparently did this long ago to woo a woman, Maomao’s mother since he had no interest in women before and after her. 2. Maomao had a wooden box that contained, a blue rose from her or from the only other person who made them, Lakan. Coupled with painted finger nails that Maomao’s mother wore when playing GO with him. It looks like she is about to bring closure for herself, her brothel family, Lakan, and her mother. This is not reconciliation too many years, too much pain, too much sadness, …

Blue Roses and Painted nails recall Maomao’s mother and Laken’s past love. Lakan is unable to recognize faces, a real problem a few people really have, but Lakan’s passion for Maomao’s mother was not her looks but her pride, genius at GO and Shogi, and smarts, perhaps even similar non-socialability. I think she does not hate her mother and Lakan, but rather wants to avoid them due to their tragic past. She wants to force them to come to closure on their past tragedy. This closure applies to the Brothel as well.

Important point Jinshi showing up Loulan and her powerful father, Shishou. This maybe one of the most important scenes foreshadowing Season 2. Season 1 is really about Maomao and her history, character, and motivations. Season 2 will finally begin understanding the Empire and its history/politics.

In Episode 3 the Courtesan who drowned in the moat would rise ghosts. This was a made up ghost story by Maomao teasing Xiaolan. The moat was not a place to dispose of bodies nor a formal punishment. Rather it merely a suicide like jumping off a tall building.

Who is Loulan? She is like a multi-personality type confusing Emperor and Jinshi, does her clothing, makeup, etc change as her personality changes but it seems to follow the 10 day Emperor visit rhythm. Is her psychology’s change like the sleepwalkers avoidance either real or fraud?

Wow a lot to digest. Ok a lot of links have been exposed and I think more to come. Lakan probably sent Lihaku to Maomao up to speed. Suirei has been exposed as maybe the leader and genius of the conspiracy, but it would make sense that she is working for someone else. Given the targets seem to be the Royal Family including Consorts. We finally learn even more about Jinshi deception. 1. The baby prince died and Jinshi knows this as well as the preferential treatment the previous Emperor and his mother gave to current Emperor’s consort contributed to her survival giving birth at such a young age and Ah-Duo’s suffering and injury. In these scenes we see the Prince, now current Emperor, sympathy for his dear friend and advisor Ah-Duo. 2. Jinshi observes how the current Emperor was repulsed by his father’s taking very young girls as consorts and his refusal to visit Lishu. Jinshi wonders what fate awaits Lishu - given the Emperor and Jinshi’s evident cherish of Lishu I suspect her fate may be to escape the Rear Palace to a more hospitable location and associates. 3. Jinshi and Gaoshun have been taking drugs to inhibit their male desires for many years, 5?, and two Jinshi ages are revealed that is his fake 24 as Rear Palace Eunuch and real age 19 now? Also Gaoshun is married has at least two sons with Basen being the younger. The older is married with one child. A new and powerful character is introduced as a favorite of the past dowager Empress and now while not embraced by current Emperor is someone everyone needs to be careful around including the Emperor and Jinshi. Things continue to get complicated with Gyokuyou being pregnant, but allows Maomao to return to the Jade Palace. I wonder if Maomao can get her adopted Dad to return as Rear Palace doctor - be a lot safer for the Consorts during pregnancy and birth. Finally, the new consort, Loulan is mysterious and a bit of a chameleon that neither the Emperor or Jinshi understand or even can describe. Even with visits every 10 days she shifts herself. What did her Lady in Waiting whisper to her?

Gaoshun has at least 2 Grandchildren by his eldest son. His saying another grandchild says 2 or more. Good luck Basen. Suirei was recognized by a senior Dr (also young DR teacher) in Outer Palace as a very talented person who he adopted. Then she got into the Outer Palace so … 1. Who was this teacher doctor how did he connect with Suirei? 2. Where did Suirei train before meeting Dr? 3. Who facilitated all these connections? 4. Where is she now? If she is a master of disguise (faking a man to help with her crimes) will we see again? Does any of this have anything to do with Loulan?

I went into that anime blind expecting not much, and then got blown away by both animation quality, story, and ost music, it had no right going as hard as it did <3

Maomao and her mother are cherished and cared for by the brothel granny and princesses. They shelter Maomao from Lakan who has no interest in meeting with him. The brothel has refused to sell Maomao to Lakan. So Lakan has some feeling for his dailughter and does not want to repeat his past efforts to devalue a woman to buy her cheaper BUT it is too late. Whatever specifically happened caused her mother’s tragic fate and estranged Maomao from Lakan. Lakan says he has spent 10 years trying to buy/get close to Maomao that is since she was 7 years old. So what happened from Maomao’s birth u til she was 7 years old. There is a tragic backstory here that Maomao thinks explains why she thinks her mother was stupid and lost her ability the experience love when she was in the womb. Lakan, the great strategist, has been manipulating events around Jinshi assignation and Maomao relationship with him. However, as in his first manipulating the courtesan/Moamao mother, his plans where flawed in resulted in Maomao serious injury and the distance closing between Jinshi’s and Maomao BUT not between her and her generic Dad. He realizes the shortcomings of his planning resulting in Maomao injury and nearly killed Jinshi.

There has been a lot of commentary regarding the many mysteries being slightly interesting and primarily revealing Maomao’s skills. But like the foreshadowing, these incidents are connected revealing larger conspiracy or conspiracies. So we still await info on resurrection drug and morning glories. Did Lakan’s strategy mess up with Maomao being injured?

very underrated anime

I saw many crying at the end of the movie with this song at the theatre, including me. Well... I am also a big Haikyuu fan and already watched the movie 3 times. Will go watching it again lol. It was amazing to watch it with IMAX tech😭💓 I think that IMAX is made in Canada, right!? Hope its gonna be released outside of Japan soon.

The anime has been amazing and fun. Im dieing to know more. The intr and ed are so much fun, i cant skip them too.

I think Gaoshun approves of Maomao, but realizes there is a huge status gap between a Crown Prince and Maomao. Also, the Crown Prince, like his father, cannot have one (wife or concubine) but has a duty to bear have many royal children, ideally from high status families to ensure the peace and future of the Empire. One can debate that many heirs is a plus or not since it creates many competitors for the crown. I see a lot of parallels between Emperor and Ah-Duo (who was of much lower status as her mother nursemaid) and Jinshi and Maomao. Personally, I think Maomao would be realistic about Jinshi’s duty, but not sure Jinshi would see it the same way. But I am getting way ahead of myself shopping them, when the Emperor may have a lot more sons and daughters in the future with Maomao there to protect them.

I love Gaoshun conspiring to reconnect Jinshi and Maomao by paying Lihaku to have a party, ergo young age of the guests.

Jinshi has not fully admitted but he is in love with her, although his status is an obstacle. Maomao is being to see Jinshi as more than a Eunuch or arrogant. As her view of his non-Eunuch status and her interest in him grows she remains in denial although others see through it. Her lack of attraction based on his sparkling looks but his underlying youth (Garden Party comment, Ah-Duo leaving, …)are attractive.

It’s a bit of cheat, but note baby Jinshi’s toy, it will appear again albeit nothing to do with plot or story.
