    GREAT episode, guys! I love all eras of sci fi and horror, but retro does pull at my heartstrings. I need to go back and watch the series. As a kid there were times when I was legitimately scared. Tim, Talk to Me is awesome. Zoe Tarakes is great in the few things I’ve seen her in. If you see her listed in a cast, I would watch whatever movie or show in which she appears.

    working back through the older seasons now. this is one of my favorite zombie movies ever. certainly my favorite of the 21st century. the overhead shots of london abandoned are amazing and devestating. i'm of the opinion about the daytime v nighttime issue is that rather than zombies who are physically incapable of being in the sunlight its more about how rage prefers to express itself in a dark and semi-anonymous night time. the sequel is easily in my top 10 best sequels of all time. as good if not a better study of human behavior and violence. can't wait for the upcoming 28 years later.

      @@JoelZiegenmier I love this movie and I am hopeful for the sequel, especially with Boyle back on board. I'm a huge fan of a variety of zombie movies! I'm a huge fan of all things Trek - even the stuff that isn't so great. This movie is included in my adoration of the Star Trek-verse. After some years of more cerebral movies, this movie gets at the heart of what made the original Star Trek and following movies so good. Yes, Abrams took some short cuts. And he made it drift toward Star Wars in some ways, but he does honor the source materials. In my view, you are too have too much reverence for the original series and have to let the new people create their own stories. Remember, this is an origin story. You have to re-introduce these characters to a new audience. And Tim, I can't understand of Into Darkness. Yes, it does pander to some tropes, but for me, it totally works. I can't get enough of Kirk, Spock, & Bones. As for Beyond, I totally agree that it is more a long episode.

    • @JohnnyHastheKeysTV
      @JohnnyHastheKeysTV Місяць тому

      Hi Randy! I'm with you on this one, but I can't handle the Darkness. They should have just left Khan out of it. Then to reverse roles (Kirk and Spock) and pander to the very best Trek film of all... I just can't get on board. I agreed with David in that respect. What happened to "where no man has gone before?" Do something NEW.

  • @romania4712

    I love it when you two bicker a little. 😂 I liked this movie for the nostalgia vibes as Tim pointed out and also for the music as David mentioned. Sabotage by the Beastie Boys made me forgive anything that may have been wrong/inconsistent about the young Kirk cop chase scene. There are enough highs for me to overlook the lows. But I wouldn’t call it a great film. The subsequent JJ Abrams movies just aren’t worth watching again.

    I saw this movie in the theater when it came out and really enjoyed it. I did have some of the same problems with it that you guys did. Primarily the annoying son. Not the actor, but the character who was just unreachable. I remember being satisfied for him to go over the hill and to meet his fate. I don’t remember being angry when he survived at the end. But that may have been for the sake of Dakota Fanning’s character. However, when I see this movie on I watch it for the action scenes, especially the boat scene. They are awesome. And the sound effect the tripod’s make adds to the creepiness. It’s played on tv all of the time so either the rights are cheap or perhaps younger viewers really love the movie despite its flaws?

    It's great to see a video of people talking about this film - that so rarely happens. You said that the Grandmother killed herself and Niles at the end. I suggest you watch the end again. Niles in fact escaped the burning barn and can be seen staring from his bedroom window in the last shot. I wish you hadn't spoiled the twist however. SPOILERS BELOW I spoiled the twist for The Other the same way I spoiled the twist for The Sixth Sense, by being too clever for my own good. I noticed how Holland was always introduced with sound before he was shown - the same method used for the imaginary characters in A Beautiful Mind (2001). Then every hint through the film that he was dead, and therefore imaginary, just confirmed my theory early in the film. It was nevertheless a skin-crawling experience and Jerry Goldsmith's score was amazing - I'm surprised you didn't mention the music.

      Yeah. I didn't go into that further detail, mainly because I had already dropped so many spoilers. 😉 You're right, I should have talked about Goldsmith's music. He's great. I remember when Trump n Hilary fight for the office. Everyone in media spreading lies about Trump how he will be the one who started World War 3. I was a fool who believe them n now I’m seeing he was the real one who stop war n try to make peace with NKorea n Russia. Biden n Hilary woke people r the one started all this WAR we r seeing now. Liberal people truly r the worst n BIDEN, BUSH, Obama, Hilary r all WAR CRIMINAL

    Excellent selection! This movie is also nostalgic for me as it would periodically show up on a late Friday/ Saturday night movie. I think the first time I watched it I was half asleep but really wanted to see it. This definitely puts you in a “what would you do?” frame of mind. As pointed out it’s a beautifully shot movie, and I too wondered why there were no night scenes as it would lend to the suspense. But it really didn’t need it. Well done, guys!

    Another movie that I saw on tv when I was young. When I tried to rewatch it a few years ago I saw some of the same flaws that you guys did. For me, it was a DNF. I think another key would be Children of the Corn. I can’t remember the age, but the youths would have to turn in their lives and be consumed by “the one that walks between the rows.” 😂

    This is a classic cult film for our house. I saw it many years ago and then I've watched at least two times. We find it to be a hoot. Tim, I think you took it much too seriously.

    What a cast! I’m very appreciative of the fact that you both are willing to take a second look at a movie. Sometimes that’s a rewarding experience. Other times it may just confirm your original opinion. But I do think it’s good to do from time to time.
