It comes from a misinterpretation of a couple of words that did not have an authority or obedience concept at the time they were written - according to linguistic experts on the level of PhD’s and secular writings that survived from that time period. As time went on, those words later picked up those meanings, in the normal shifting of word meanings as all languages evolve. Also, no one knows the full context of the New Testament letters because no one knows what the initial reports to the New Testament writers were. Assumptions in interpretation without knowing the full context can radically change the meaning of the original intent. The context of the first commandment, however, is known. God is not just who we worship, but who we obey. There are a lot of verses about obeying God. You can substitute pronouns to make it personal as in: Nick is to have no other gods above or beside God (some versions say none except God; some versions above God; some versions above or beside God). Wives are to have no other gods above or beside God. A lowercase god, in this context, is a personal decision maker. Nick is to have no other personal decision makers above or beside Almighty God. Wives are to have no other decision makers above or beside God. That makes it very clear that a husband is not to sit on God‘s throne in her life, nor is he to have equal say in her life as God. It also makes it very clear that everyone of us is to get off the throne, God’s throne in our own lives- which is the essence of repentance. Sitting on God’s throne in our own lives is the same as rebellion against God and idolatry - we obey ourselves instead of obeying God - rebelling against obeying God - and that’s what deserves the punishment of hell. Wives in those denominations, ask what they’re supposed to do when God tells them to do one thing but their husband tells them to not do it. They feel like they will sin either way - yet they’re actually questioning whether it’s right to disobey God to let somebody be authoritative above God’s decisions. The same people are clear that if an employer tells them to do something that God says not to do, they stand firm and obey God. Their theology actually subtly elevates the husband to the same level as God or even above in wives’ lives within the context of their marriages. It’s very subtle - so they have two theologies living side-by-side, but they give more precedence to the husband as master and the wife as his de facto and gently treated slave within marriage. However, a partnership is a different form of relationship than a master slave relationship. They are mutually exclusive. They cannot both exist at the same. time the relationship must either be one or the other. It cannot be both. Also, at that time, Roman law required wives to obey their husbands as their masters. The idea that a wife would be a partner and a joint heir was a radical paradigm shift. Women were not allowed to inherit at that particular time. Also, Ancient Roman marriages at that time were made for political and economic gain - not for love. The idea that a husband was to sacrificially love his wife was another shocking paradigm shift. At that time, husbands were allowed to have multiple wives in the Roman Empire. The idea of a wife being an equal partner, is not the worldview of marriage ever since the fall into sin. It was that way before the fall, but afterwards almost every culture in the entire world throughout history the larger, stronger, more hormonally aggressive husbands dominated smaller, weaker, less hormonally aggressive wives. It’s the same pattern for the bullies on the playground who give ground to the sin of power lust. I was told that men’s bones are five times more dense than women’s. A husband-dominant marriage is the worldly view and design of marriage. The New Testament writers said God’s design is an equal partnership. So when Joy talks about Christian men being male dominant, she’s not inaccurate for some large denominations. A lot of wives have been severely emotionally harmed by the concept. They don’t feel like they have a voice to even be able to speak about how much it hurts them when their husband shifts what they thought was their love relationship, to one of taking away her autonomy over her own life. Powerlessness. It’s a horrible feeling as an adult. People are naturally selfish, so this does not play out well, and undermines her sense of value at a subconscious level. It subconsciously makes wives feel trapped. Christian women tend to internalize hertz rather than identify and clearly address them - which creates health problems. When these denominations widely, publicly promote their interpretation, they create an unnecessary stumbling block to salvation for many women who don’t know Jesus - and find it difficult to trust a God who would want to make them de facto slaves to a husband - and call that love. No matter how you slice it, wanting someone to be a slave to an imperfect human being for the rest of their life is not love. That is an action of hate - and that is what it communicates to adult women. It’s an action that stems from selfishness and a desire for power over another. Everyone today openly recognizes how evil and wrong slavery is - but don’t seem to recognize when it’s actually extended into marriage. A gently treated slave is still a slave. A requirement of absolute obedience in every everything is still slavery. The apostles, John and Paul openly described themselves as slaves to Christ. Perfect God is to be our master and we are to follow the obedience of slaves to Him- but He’s not a human being. He created us. He owns everything in His own creation, including us. Hope this long explanation helps explain her comments and how many women actually legitimately do feel.

The birthright citizen amendment is antiquated and needs to be changed. It was created in the early 1800’s to cover US parents who may have a baby on a ship traveling back and forth for weeks from Europe and other places. That was the only way to travel back then. It was never intended to be instant citizenship for people whose family weren’t already citizens. That’s the loophole. Because of the wording they use it as a technicality. It’s an abuse of the constitution and needs to be ratified, in my opinion.
