2005 26’ Express Cruiser 4 Winns 268
The best in class for available room, layout, value for your dollar in a 25-28 ft. single engine cruiser.
This is 4 Winns most popular boat and is a “pocket cruiser” perfect for day cruising, watersports, fishing, and overnight cruising and is known to be a lot of boat for the money.
For this owner it has been a perfect catalina trip boat cruises 14-20 knots out to Catalina towing a dinghy.
Features:
Mercruiser v8 engine model 496 MAG FWC (fresh water cooled) 375 HP with outdrives and counter-propeller
6’2” headroom
Trailerable
Day bed convertible from table
Enclosed cockpit with helm station
Stainless steel railing propane grill
Full bath wet head with marine toilet
Sleeps 4 (v birth table converts to bed)
Air conditioning and microwave
Perfect boat for a trip to Catalina with the exterior entertaining/relaxing space and full head.
The owner shares a few great insights after owning this boat for 8 years:
1. Critical to have marine toilet instructions in the bathroom. This will help others who may not know to know the process and rules of using a marine toilet.
2. To keep maintenance down does the work himself:
Has been low cost other than the slip fee and bottom cleaning.
3. This boat has a somewhat narrow beam reducing the stability and comfort of the ride
4. Excellent for towing a center console dinghy.
5. The mercruiser outdrive does not turn as easily as others

    Lay your lights along the very top of your metal window frames (portholes) facing up toward the ceiling. This allows the light to also reflect upward off the ceiling creating broader light effect. Deflect the light upward further by using tin foil strips. This prevents the lights from shining directly into peoples' eyes and creates indirect lighting.

    I plan to remove my galley too an my Catalina. Does anyone know, if the "inner shell"/inner 2. hull has any static, structural purpose in this little boat? (except of course the bulkheads with the chains, these remain of course) The galley from fiberglass is bonded with the inner shell.

    • @waves-wheels
      @waves-wheels 2 роки тому

      It certainly has a structural effect on the little boat since the inner shell is connected to the outer shell. How much? I'm not sure. Can pieces of it be cut out without consequences or compromising the integrity of the boat? In my experience, yes! Without consulting a naval architect/engineer you will lots of opinions and mine is modify your boat however you must and do your best not to compromise the strength of the hull. That would certainly give you lots of space. You would have to leave space for the mast and its rigging and the only other functionality of the open cockpit is to be able to climb onto the deck. If you can do both those things it should be fine!

    Hi! What did you use to level the floor before putting the reflectix down?

    • @waves-wheels
      @waves-wheels 3 роки тому

      Fortunately the van floor was very flat and did not need leveling. I used some 1/4" fiberboard pieces that were original with the van simply because they were already there and for any additional sound reduction/insulation. Not needed and you may just lay the reflectix down with the plywood on top without leveling. Is your floor extra dented or unlevel? Where specifically are you trying to level?

    How much of it septic system. What are you do with The solid? And the liquid you let it drain at the bottom, not the smartest thing. Long-term dumping it like that it’s not good for marina. I’m not the biggest save the planet type of guy I would rethink that one🇺🇸

    • @waves-wheels
      @waves-wheels 3 роки тому

      Thanks for the thought I agree no one should dump waste in the harbor. I do not and my urinal is not for solids. For the solids I use a real toilet elsewhere. And as for peeing in the harbor, well when you go for a swim in the ocean do you pee in the water? Yeah, so do I.

    • @Moleasses102
      @Moleasses102 4 місяці тому

      While peeing in the open ocean is not a problem, releasing all your urine into a crowded harbor or marina could cause serious nitrogen loading and algal blooms, especially because everyone thinks it’s harmless, so many people do it. Super simple solution is pee in a bottle and empty in an onshore toilet. You’re a guy so that’s incredibly easy. Large mouth laundry detergent bottles are great- tight fitting screw on cap and they are mostly opaque so no one even knows you are carrying pee to the bathroom. Help keep water clean for everyone- fish, shellfish, and us! Thanks for the tour!

    Very cool what you're doing! I own a 1980 Catalina 25 tall rig I'm just now refitting before the summer. The lights you have are a good idea. I've ordered a couple 30 foot strips to go around the boat. Definitely getting rid of that 2nd sink. Really liking your sink setup I've seen that on bigger Catalina's but where you have it I was thinking about adding some portable gas oven with a stove top to fit exactly where the original gimbal stove was. The idea of baking pizza or shepherds pie on voyages will make it feel more like home haha. That fridge you have is huge to man, I'm curious now what solar power can do with that situation. Can't stay docked all the time. I'll be posting some videos within the next couple months. Just painted the topside. Bottom next week. Alot of work is going into it hahaha. And a few months rent. It gets very humid hot where I live so I'm adding a 12k btu ac for hatchway, and a 3800 watt quiet Gen to power it with the options of powering the entire boat while charging batteries or a electric heater. May float generator off with dinghy and add an extension chord to prevent any fumes. Using the boat alot with camping so it should be worth it. We'll see. Any opinions?

    • @waves-wheels
      @waves-wheels 3 роки тому

      Very cool, these Catalina 25's are so awesome, just need some work to update things like no second sink! Glad you agree its unnecessary! Haha. And I think your stove idea is terrific. It was quite a bit more work than I first imagined gutting the old fiberglass where to stove and icebox were so if you can just use the stove area, go for it! And sounds like an epic setup with the generator and dinghy! I'll add a bit of advice about the fridge. I got it since I planned to be docked a lot. But if I were you I would get a 12v cooler that will act as a cooler with ice in it, but can plug in to your battery and certainly run off solar. Alpicool is a brand I've had in mind, you can find it on Amazon. Good luck with the build!
