Very nice! When was this? We're planning to hike jirisan this coming sunday (dec.1) but we don't know where is our jump-off. Start and end.Can you please give us the fastest route to reach the peak... or what route did you took?. Thank you.

@@JpFund-z9p Awesome that you want to hike Jirisan! We hiked it last year around the 20th of November. The answer to your question is a bit complicated though. It kind of depends on what you want. Option 1: a 1-day trip and my recommendation: your start and end-point is the same, namely JungSanRi (중산리) This is also the fastest way to the top. You'll see many people hike this particular hike in the weekend. Up and down following the same route. Most people start around 5am in order to have enough time and rest. It's a lot of steps to the top (takes approximately 3-4h to the top). Option 2: a 2-day trip: your start and end-point is the same as the 1-day trip. However, you sleep close to the top (make sure to reserve a sleeping spot! It's a popular hut). That gives you the chance to see the peak at sunrise if you wake up early in the hut, and do the descent on day 2. On day 1 you can then hike up using a different route such that you make a nice loop. Option 3: a 2-day trip (hard): start on the west-side of the park. You can get there by direct night-bus from Seoul at 11pm and arrives at 3-4am. The stop is NoGoDan SeongSamJae (노고단 성삼재). You sleep in a hut somewhere in the middle of the park (once again make sure to reserve a spot). You can decide how to divide your hike, but one of the two days will be close to 11h of hiking. Option 4: a 3-day trip: Exactly the same as the 2-day trip (hard), but with an extra sleepover that makes the days more easy to hike (6-7h hiking per day). Option 5: a 3-day trip (more difficult starting point): Same as the 3-day trip, except that you need to take a taxi down from the bus stop to the "official starting point" which is down the mountain. This is the route that you saw in the video. In the top left corner you can see what we did each day. This results in three hiking days of 6-7h / day. Option 6: a 1-day trip (extreme). You walk the same exact route as the 2-day trip (hard) or the 3-day trip. Except you do it all in one go. I would personally not recommend this one unless you can hike 18 hours straight. We met one person at 3am in the morning that was doing this one. He was going to arrive 9pm at the end-point and was an army veteran. If you consider this one, make sure you're extremely well trained. Good luck planning your trip! And pack warm clothes! The top is very cold.

@TheMrTimTimTimTimTim thank you so much for the generous infos. Option 1and 2 fits in our plan coz we want just a 1day hike. We start our trip from seoul on saturday noon or before lunch. Upon reaching Jirisan,in a given time if we arrive there in the afternoon,Is it possible to hike right away to the hut for sleepover(option1 route)..and in d nxtday do the early hike again to the peak for the sunrise or even sea of clouds view if there is.because sunday afternoon or midnight is our back to seoul. Thank you again

@@JpFund-z9p The 2-day plan should be possible. But leave early enough. So I would definitely take the earlier option leaving from Seoul. The sun sets early and the mountains are pitch black in the night (not a single light). You don't want to get stuck in that (unless you have a good headlamp, which I recommend anyways). The hut is about an hour away from the peak (called JangTeoMok (장터목)). On day 1 you can go there straight away without having to cross the peak (by following an orange and purple route). Next day you can then do the peak and descend (following a black route). The order of difficulty for hiking is: orang-purple-black where black is most steep and difficult. Also, if you go for the hut: take your own food with you (warm rice you can buy, but any meat or snacks you need to take yourself, together with a small gas fire if you want to heat something). And know that absolutely no littering is allowed in Korean national parks. That means no soap (and also no shower), no toothpaste (and hence no teeth brushing), and nothing gets left behind so you need to carry along your own garbage down the mountain in your own plastic bag. If upon arriving you feel like it's too late to climb safely, do the 1-day hike on Sunday and go straight for the peak (black route up, and black route down). Depending on when you leave in the morning, the afternoon or midnight bus should be possible to catch. Enjoy the view and have fun!
