I am really confused about the man made global warming too... Even from this same talk, why did 12000 years ago and 2.5 million years ago the warming of siberia and CO2 emissions caused catastrophe? Sure not because of human beings or industrialisation... From a humble mindset, I wonder whether we are also part of nature, helping the self correcting complicated system towards a required correction sequence!

he makes a great point about Debt and how getting into the debt black hole makes you 'Obey'. My advice to anyone - to sensitize yourself - by having a strong spiritual practice of some kind, and being, even if only online - supported by others of like mind. Be sensitive to the vibrations of people you meet. Even in a corporate environment, there are various layers. Find like minded people who also have a practice & support each other. Help others. Service to humanity in any situation you'll find yourself in. This way, when the environment no longer supports you, you will easily be lifted out of it (maybe fired at what seems the worst possible time!!!). Stay close to your inner guides.

Have you tried arguing for a prosperous sustainable future based on magma energy; the limitless heat energy of the molten interior of the earth? NASA demonstrated the technology to harness energy directly from magma from 1975-1982. I thought we'd have it by now; endless amounts of base load clean energy to meet all our energy demands carbon free, plus desalinate, irrigate, recycle all waste and even capture carbon from the air. According to NASA there's massively more energy than sufficient - tens of thousands of times global energy demand. Have you tried arguing for application of that technology, rather than suggesting people engage in revolution - make a business case that climate change deniers can get on board with? Maybe you can convince the great and the good that it's in their interests - because in fact a far more prosperous, and profitable sustainable future is possible based on magma energy. Have you even tried making the case for a better future, before terrorising people and encouraging revolution, you malicious communist ignoramus?

Probably same reason(s) as with Nikola Tesla's energy tower at Wardencliffe in the US. Abstracting limitless free energy from the atmosphere. Which was of no appeal to the capitalistic money-makers. Or lack of uptake of alternative technology which powers 'UFO' technology; which has been back engineered at area 51, in America. As if so, the oil powered energy industry would be rendered defunct; overnight.🤔

I don’t agree with don’t act alone. Everyone has individual “power in the purse” to buy plant based food and avoid meet and dairy, as the AAI along with global crops grown to feed the animals, is the largest driver of climate change ; larger than all of transportation put together including all air travel. I’m not sure why George missed this elephant in the room aNd decided not to even mention it.

He’s saying that we can’t make the huge changes that need to be made by ONLY acting alone. He’s not saying that you shouldn’t stop eating meat or stop using single use plastic. He’s saying that it’s not enough and that’s it’s a way that the big companies distract us from the damage they are doing. We need system change, and system change can only come about from us acting as a community. We are more powerful together than we are as individuals.

Good question. I think it can be measured quite obectively in terms of the amount of carbon emmissions. Just keep an eye on our remaining carbon budgets remaining to us to avoid 2 degrees. When we see a drawdown in emmisions that will keep us in the budget you will know we have reached that social tipping point. Check out Kevin Anderson for some great analysis of our remaining carbon budgets and how well we are staying within them....spoiler alert, not very well. Okay, so by this logic, people have a right to engage in civil disobedience against the "green rules" he wants imposed on everyone, then? But of ocurse not. Rules he agrees with are the ones that everyone without exception must obey.

Where does he say or even suggest that? Please give time stamp it it’s this talk. I’ve listened to many of George’s talks and read many of his columns and never ever even heard the slightest of these suggestions. He seems like someone who is democratic by heart and thus supports protest and disobedience against authoritarianism on general, no matter what kind. He promotes what he calls “for the commons” where small communities should solve their own problems as far as possible. This is the complete opposite of “green rules” for everyone, but of course he supports standardized laws which everyone must follow because that is… you know the basis of modern society a judicial system do you know what year it is?

The US had learned from WWI that because it took over a year to start major productions of arms in 1917, it knew that it needed tp plan ahead before the Japanese attacked. There was a plan to just what to do to change the factories from making car to making planes. My second point is that we need to ration things so that money no longer matters for lifestyles. We can have a 3 tier system the workers get X amount, the middle class gets 2X amount, and the rich get just 3X. In my opinion we can't change prices enough to stop the rich from over consuming without killing all the workers because they don't have enough income to eat 500 calories a day.

All the facts they get told are transparent and available, both about the problems and the possible solutions. As long as the question being posed is deep enough!! CAs are a loving gift to both citizens and politicians who are not in a majority but have been elected to represent a particular community. If one or two within the party which happens to be in power vote against the party, with their consciences, the CA can have a great effect.

A great talk but with a fundamental flaw, possibly used to make his point clearer; as he states early on, the brain is a complex system too, but then he goes on to simplify it- to suit his argument- that humans choose obedience over survival. The reasons for obedience are far more complex than this and an important area to discuss here. Of course time constraints didn’t allow that

    • @FreeBrunoPowroznik

once its pointed out, i was able (and i assume most average+ intellects would) to connect that we are social creatures. Obeying the cultural norms is HOW we survived to date. anyone who didnt obey was cast out of the tribe/community where survival was next to impossible. even when it became more probable, visible punishments like branding were used. Only recently have we been able to leave our childhood communities and start afresh in new ones without any detriment. It's a widespread understanding as far as i know, tho i do seem to have a stronger than usual interest in psychology and anthropology than most. Everyone feels this, even if they dont know it

Marvellous talk from every points of view. The reading through the eyes of complex systems, the explanation of systemic forces at play, the behavioural science of human's attitude towards what I would call social conformity rather than obedience. Neuroscience seems to highlight that is really a fear of exclusion from society that drives our inability to challenge the status quo. Hence, the divide-et-impera tactics of those who are interested in the perpetration of the status quo. It makes that question from the audience even more important: it would be great if George could help with a follow-up on which movement he sees as more in need of joiners.

All was logical and easy to follow. However capitalism has no need for the 3bn without money. Only driving climate crisis and chaos to evidence to those rich countries, individuals able to buy more, to adopt in a world essential to survive. Vertical farming, home upgrades and energy prices to allow billionaires and governments all the power and control to demand more from the masses to entertain the few. Get off the grid, off media and consumption. Vegan, repair and reuse. Live long and healthy, happy without being obedient. Without much need for stuff, able to focus on supporting others and nature. Its simple, a simple life, simply give more than take x
