Had family fight on both sides just to have the union side marry into the southerns side later on. 45 virginia both were father son duo george and james scott. The union side 116th Ohio john winland. Cool video. James scott of the 45th virginia would be captured and sent to Ohio prison camp. Hed live the rest of his life out in southeastern Ohio

I'm thinking John Madison had to evacuate Washington during the battle of 1812 before they burned it .. I'm thinking that would be considered being under Fire

My great, great grandfather was in this battle. He wrote a letter home (family still has this letter) and was thankful that he made it through "without being hit with a ball." Unfortunately, he died on Aug. 28 at Brawner's Farm when his regiment (26 Ga.) lost more than 70 percent of its men.

My G.G. Grandather - Henry F. Mckinney fought in that battle ,,he was 15 and lied about his age inorder to fight. He couldnt write his name , he simply signed by an X. He survived the war unlike many of his commrades. Thank You for sharing their unknown story. Mrs. McPhail from the Roanoke side syched the Union Soulders out - the Confederates kept running a train back and forth on the Staunton side unloading fresh troops each time ,,,when in reality, it was the same Boys and Men getting off and back on. I find that Lady to be a hero in this story that no one ever mentions. The Union soilders were camped out in her front yard. 😉 I enjoyed your video. Thank You Sir.
