What might it do for?

Yes TN does charge sales tax on groceries, currently 4% down from 5%. They do have to make revenue in other areas. It is a much better option though! To give you an example of our property tax.. a current 3 bed, 2 bath, $315,000 house in Knoxville city limits.. the taxes on it are: City- $814.29 County- $700.66 for a total of $1,514.95 yearly… that is crazy low compared to most other states. If you are outside of the city limits you only pay county tax. More tax info can be found here, www.tn.gov/revenue

@@ClarkSmithRealtor The obvious answer would be to raise property tax to be more in line with other states, and eliminate grocery sales tax, which is regressive and hurts poor people the most - again, to be more in line with other states which don't tax groceries of all things. Problem solved.

In terms of future appreciation for best location in that price range I would first suggest West Knoxville. Cedar Bluff area and inwards somewhat to the north as well will occasionally have decent homes pop up in that price range. New construction is slim. You are most likely going to find something in North Knoxville for that price range which is a decent area.
