Crochet Mouse Ear Hat – LEFT-HANDED, Chunky weight (Cat. 5) Sew edition – Intermediate Level
Welcome magical makers to the Ever After Hat full-length tutorial! I’m Nicole of @WovenTalesDesigns , and I LOVE combining my passion for yarn with my love for all things Disney! This magical wearable works up incredibly fast and is such a fun modification of my original mouse ear headband pattern! Are you like me and have a head that headbands refuse to stay up on? Do you have someone you’re making this for that would rather something sporty to wear to the parks? This style of the crochet mouse ears is PERFECT for those looking to wear a gender-neutral option, those that have small kids that won’t wear a headband, and those that frankly want something to keep the sun out of their eyes at the parks! I’ll cover how to create this mouse ear hat from start to finish in this full-length video tutorial. Please take a glance at the details below before starting and have a creative day adding magic to your stitches in your own way!
THERE ARE FOUR VERSIONS OF THIS HAT: 1. Medium Weight (Cat. 4) Glue Version; 2. Medium Weight (Cat. 4) Sew Version; 3. Chunky Weight (Cat. 5) Glue Version; and 4. Chunky Weight (Cat. 5) Sew Version.
You are currently viewing the CHUNKY WEIGHT (CAT. 5) SEW VERSION of the Ever After Hat! Find the other versions in this playlist: link

All you need to start is to make FOUR ear bases from the original video (ua-cam.com/video/Dlb9OV99_O0/v-deo.html) and have four ear inserts pre-cut and ready to use! DO NOT make the ear strips, this pattern uses an entirely different seaming method! The pattern will pick up for you at the 20:00 minute mark.
The sizing for the ears is for children (ages 2 - 9) and adults. The formatting of the written instruction is as follows: Child/Adult = “Round 6/7: Sc 32/40, ch 1 and turn.”

I’m seeing gaps in my stitches with the 5mm and worsted weigh yarn. Does yours have gaps? It’s hard to tell with the patterned yarn!
@@bbykls thanks for your question! The only times that I’ve noticed gaps was when I worked with cotton fiber based yarns. You may need to size down to a 4.5 or 4.00 mm hook! Sometimes the labels claim to be a worsted weight yarn, but then end up being closer to a lightweight DK yarn. Which yarn are you using specifically? Also thanks for watching the tutorial! I love using the color changing/patterned yarns 😍
Beautiful!!!!!! Can you please put the pattern and tutorial.
Thank you so much! The links to my pattern shops (Etsy, and Ravelry) are listed in the description of this video, and you can find the free tutorial on my UA-cam channel ❤️✨
Both of them are soooo 🥰. Will be working on this soon. Your video was great at explaining.
@@tammyturner5507 thank you again for those kind words! I appreciate the positive feedback, let me know if you have any questions 😍✨
Best frog I’ve seen so far.❤❤
@@tammyturner5507 thank you so much!!
I weave as I go also I crochet over begining tails
@@jeansousie5785 glad to hear that! I also at times crochet over tails 😍🥰it means we get to enjoy our creations sooner than most 😎🤩😍
Very cute pattern but I can see these being heavy and falling off , if I try this I will just whip stitch the ears together( no ear strip ) and forget the foam/ cardboard inserts just lightly stuff until ear is shaped . I think that will make them alot less heavy ?
@@dawnamendola8690 for sure! The weight of the ears can truly depend on the type of yarn you use! And the foam is quite lightweight but I’m sure using cardboard could also lighten it further 😎I’m coming out with a hat option at the end of this month so stay tuned!
@@WovenTalesDesigns fantastic thank you for responding
@@dawnamendola8690 you’re welcome! Have a magical day!
chapter 1 = 4:47
Im so confused on round 7/8 We stitch 40 HDC so we have 9 stitches left then HDC, ch2, st on the 42? So we skip stitch 41? But then I still have 7 unworked stitches left. What am I not understanding 🤦🏻♀️ 😅😢 Help please
@@evelynserrano6188 hello! Thanks for reaching out with your question 😊✨ So for that round we are first working: (ch2, hdc) into the first stitch; then working 40 hdc; then finally working (hdc, ch 2, sl) into the 42nd st! You are correct in having 7 unworked sts, because you will use that edge of unworked sts in the final chapter of the pattern. Your ear base should look like a bitten cookie shape if that makes sense! It’s a bit unorthodox, but trust the process you are doing great so far!
@@WovenTalesDesigns Ohhhh okay I get it now thank you so much! ❤️
@@evelynserrano6188 you’re welcome! Have a magical day! ✨❤️😍

HELLO WHERE BEEN? GOOD TO SEE YOU
Enjoying toddler mom life!! Thanks for watching ✨❤️
This is amazing! Im going to disney this summer and wanted to crochet something and this is perfect. Thank you sooo much <3
You’re so welcome! And how exciting it will be to show off your handmade skills in the magical parks!!
I cant believe this hasnt blown up yet! Thank you for this fantastic tutorial! You edited it so well and every instruction was super clear. Mt ears turned out perfect and professional looking. I cant wait to wear them in the park tomorrow 💕💕
Omg!! Thank you so much for the kind feedback! I’m a solo parent so I don’t get to turn out much content but when I do I try to make it as high quality as I can muster! One day it’ll blow up, and until then stay tuned for more tutorials 😊❤️
@@WovenTalesDesigns I was raised by a single mom, Im so impressed that you've been able to find time to build this amazing channel. Please keep up the good work but never feel guilty taking time for yourself and your family. 💕
Again you’re so kind, and I can’t express how much your words have encouraged me! Toddler mom life is very time consuming, so I’m thankful for any time I can have on the side to build this channel 🥰❤️there are so many tutorials I have up my sleeve!! So stay tuned 🥰✨
Do I have to use the craft foam?
Great question! I prefer the foam to cardboard or just stuffing alone because it provides extra structure for the ears! But if you want to quickly make a pair without the foam you totally can! When you’re at the parks, all that running around and crazy summer weather can cause the ears to droop a little. Your ears will look amazing whatever you decide! Tag me on social media when you finish yours, I’d love to see how magical they turn out 🥰❤️
Sorry for bothering you again but I wanted to know when you do the half double crochet is it a total of 42 stitches or just 40? And if I do use cardboard how would one use the cardboard
That’s alright! It’s a total of 42, because it’s 7 stitches less than the previous round! And then you would cut and use the cardboard in the same exact way you use the foam. The video should show all of those details!
@@WovenTalesDesigns Thank you so much!❤️❤️❤️
I made three of these for my friends and me on a Disney Cruise and they were a huge hit! Great pattern, easy to follow, and worked up quickly.
Omg I LOVE THAT!!! I actually worked on the Disney Dream ship for one contract as a performer, so those memories have a special place in my heart! Thank you for your feedback, it means the world ❤️✨
I purchased your pattern at Etsy, does it mean I have to purchase another one for the updated version?
Thanks for your question! So they are actually two separate patterns, but if you watch the no glue tutorial here on UA-cam, it’ll guide you through the update since it requires knowing the original pattern! Hope that helps!
@@WovenTalesDesigns Okay, thanks! Yea, I actually purchased two different patterns from you.

Thank you, thank you! I'm making a frog with a different pattern but I wanted the feet to be like this. It's not a large frog so the feet using the finger pattern was too big. I didn't think to use the puff stitch. I'm going to make yours next.
I’m so happy to hear that you’re creating the frog in your own style preference! And so happy you’ve found my froggy pattern 😍❤️ the possibilities are endless with amigurumi! I can’t wait to see the finished look, be sure to tag me when you finish ✨🤗
Such a great amigurumi frog pattern and taught very well! Thank you for NOT making this a “learn to crochet” tutorial on top of teaching us the pattern. Basic crochet skills can be learned in numerous videos on UA-cam. I like how you crocheted in back bar making it easier for frog to sit on flat surface. Sometimes, i put raw rice in bag tied tightly with rubber band and place in base of toy adding wt to the bottom before stuffing with poly fill. Thanks again. Keep up the good work. I look forward to more Amigurumi tutorials. ❤
Wow! I cannot thank you enough for this encouraging comment! It’s hard to keep up with my content creation schedule as a toddler mom, so you totally made my day! Yes I LOVE using the back bar of the single crochet stitch, it is so effective if you can manage it! Thanks for the tip for the rice bag, I’ll have to try it!!
You are a life saver. My ex- husbands 2nd ex wife ( yep you read that right) mother LOVES frogs and her sister is dying and she asked me to make her mom a set of 3 frogs to represent each sister. I was trying to come up with a way to incorporate the sister’s favorite colors and the crown is the answer. Your video is amazingly easy to watch and follow. Thank you so much and please keep doing tutorials.
This comment LITERALLY made my day!! Thank you so much for that feedback, I can’t wait to see what you create! Join the Ever After Club on fb and share please! I’m in the midst of working on more content for the new year! Thank you again for the encouragement 🥰❤️
GREAT TUTORIAL!!!! It is So Cute and so adorable!!! I love it!!!
Thanks so much for the excitement and compliment 🥰❤️I love my little froggy!
Do you think you could put them on a stretchy band vs the hard one? The hard ones give me headaches
I’m sure you could! I’ve been meaning to play around with that concept actually for the new year! Thanks for the question, tag me on insta if you do!
Beautiful and much better than glue
Better than glue they will stay better too
They are a great options! ✨😍
They are so pretty ❤
Very pretty ❤
Thank you! 😍
I have to do this for my next trip to Disney World 😊
Wow beautiful
Hi, so I have a quick question, Can I use cardboard instead of the thick craft foam? Or does that make the ears heavier?
Hi! Thanks so much for your question and tuning into my channel 🥰 So short answer is, yes you can absolutely use cardboard as a substitute for the foam 🤗. Long answer is, the ears will weigh about the same whether you use foam or cardboard-however, I tend to lean towards the foam because it doesn’t “wilt” overtime like paper based materials such as cardboard. The humidity/rainy weather of the parks and being placed in a suitcase/bag can affect the shape of the ears as well, so I like to use sturdier long term materials like foam! Hope this helps, have a magical day!
@@WovenTalesDesignsThank you soo much , I appreciate it!!

Does normal hot glue work or does it have to be gorilla glue?
Normal hot glue for sure works! I just usually have gorilla hot glue in my crafting stash because I used to make wreaths for fun once upon a time 😍
Why 7?
If you’re referring to the amount of repeats and starting at count for the ear based, it just happened to be the number that work for me as a designer when I was creating this! Also a favorite number of mine 🤗❤️
These are sooo cute! I can't wait to make them! Do you have a printable pattern by chance?
I absolutely do! Woven Tales Designs on Etsy or Ravelry!
And thank you so much! I cant wait to see what you create 🤩✨
