if we establish a christian theocracy (which i’m guessing is what you want) you do realise that america will just be sent into the middle ages in terms of social progression, i.e., women must submit to their husbands in their marriages (‘Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.’- Ephesians 5:22) i guess you could argue that part of scripture can be wiggled around to have the husbands listen to their wives but they don’t necessarily have to, as says the scripture. The best reflection of what this would cause america to be like would be that of 1940’s-1950’s america, where affairs and disloyal partners were incredibly common in relationships. this isn’t a modern idea by any means this has been happening since the idea of keeping ‘one pure wife’ or ‘one pure husband’, domestic abuse would also skyrocket most likely because of the previously quoted bible verse (:3) and divorces would become illegal or heavily looked down upon (depending on the christian denomination you would like to use as the standpoint here but i’m guessing because i’m against you in this you could just choose the denomination that goes ‘nuh uh’ to any of my points even though the legality of divorce in christian society began when king henry VIII created the marriage act of 1540 which strayed away from the traditional views of the catholic church, thus creating the church of england, which is where most typical christians today base their views off of, which isn’t even the actual word of god but ‘oh well. we have to say whatever to counter the person blaspheming our god and if they say anything else then it’s okay man you’ll see on judgement day trust me we’ll be in a better place than you ((do you see what i’m doing do you see how childish you seem when you talk like this and act like this)) ). slavery would be legal and a perfectly reasonable thing to practice because of Ephesians 6:5-9 (‘Slaves, obey your earthly masters with respect and fear, and with sincerity of heart, just as you would obey Christ.‘) and i mean i didn’t make that up, it’s there in the scripture. Also obviously homosexuality would have to be outlawed and same sex marriage would have to go too, (Leviticus 18:22 *cough* Leviticus 20:13 *cough* 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 *cough*) raising the suicide and depression rates of america by a considerable amount because ‘we need to obey christ1!1!1’ which i mean isn’t good for the population of america as a whole by any means but i guess if we want a christian theocracy this is what’s gonna happen. Furthermore abortion would be completely illegal (Exodus 20:13, Proverbs 6:16-17) even if it threatens the potential mother and the potential child’s life (think of if this was your wife and you had to deal with her going through the birth, with it potentially killing your wife and the child in a couple of hours due to complications that could have been avoided through modern medicine and modern understanding) but yeah let’s let christ be our governing force im sure this would go great for american society over ‘biden’s america’ which a lot of you like to whine about

If i do pluck up the courage to speak it come out very wrong. i have no control when the anxiety wave hits me. Totally overwhelming. Eye contact can be enough to cripple me. People think im unapproachable, im very alert so people think im staring or looking at them. Every day is a massive challenge just walking round town. Psychological warfare!!

What about Lockdown? Fear and anxiety in adults. Masks, having to keep distance. Not being allowed to have contact with other children. And even when back in preschool/ nursery, having to line up and only being able to mix with three others in a group. Cleaning rituals. A time of madness for sure and must have had an effect.

Hello, I am from Germany, a grandmother from a 5 year old girl, who does not speak in kindergarten for 2 years. Thank you very much for sharing your knowless and ideas!!! In Germany there are only a few teachers, who are able to understand a child with selective mutism, and they could learn a lot from your amazing inspirations. Thank you very very much for sharing ❣❣❣I will share it, too.

Do you have any resources for adults that have selective mutism? So much of what you said resonates with me now. I remember mostly being unable to talk in school especially and got a lot of a hard time about from everyone almost including parents and teachers rhat just made everything worse. I still have it many years later. It's more sporadic but still there. Some of us never grow out of it. Thank you.

I was selectively mute and life was hell. When I was old enough, I started using alcohol, which temporarily lessened the anxiety enough to allow me to be around people and to try to interact with them. But that turned into 25 years of alcohol abuse, and life was still hell. I'm almost 50 now. 6 years sober. I still don't talk and have no friends, but I have found peace in accepting that I'm not "normal". I figured out, too, that I am autistic. A huge weight has lifted now that I know the why of it all.

I had selective mutism from kindergarten up until 4th grade. Looking back, I think it started after I had the preschool teacher from hell who would yell at me a lot and expect perfection in everything I did. Oh, I just want to go hug my 5-year-old self and tell her she didn’t deserve the treatment she got! ❤

Your videos are great and so informative. There is one thing about fact 5 that commonly leads to misconceptions. While many children feel most safe and able to speak freely with their caregiver, this is not necessarily the case. Mine triggered my SM (I was never diagnosed but I'm sure that's what it was). I struggled mostly at that age, 3-5 and could always speak to other children. It was only in response to the caregiver that I froze. Starting preschool gave rise to a face to face (rather than side by side or having her back to me) interaction when she'd leave me which was often quite confrontational. Now that I was around teachers ie people with authority who I depended on, I would have difficulty there. I could speak to a degree but very little and when it focused attention with expectation (eg question or instruction) I'd freeze. If adults were watching me, it made me semi-freeze when playing+chatting with other kids as I was savvy and knew they were likely "examining" and judging me. Wow the high profile SM is interesting and answers a Q I have. I thought I'd gotten past it age 5-6 but with adults in authority, I remained unable to expand or initiate for a long time which for me was most likely tied to attachment and trust issues. I still get a visible panic/freeze response with the original caregiver even though I can say more words now, I break down.

I am recently learning about selective mutism because my child does not talk to daycare staff, but at home he counts, sings, and speaks in sentences. They say he speaks with friends, but not staff. I am worried because we are potty training and at home he announces when he has to go, but not at daycare. Any tips ? TIA

I am neurodivergent and have selective mutism when I am in severe neurodivergente burnout, but as a late diagnosed neurodivergent woman, I am a master in masking to fit in at a cost that I overstep most of my own boundaries daily also speaking when I am in severe neurodivergent burnout, the only way to get out of my severe neurodivergent burnout is to honor my boundaries, like not talking in some situations, and avoid sensory triggers. When I am not in neurodivergent burnout I funktion much better and am able to talk freely. This presented in early childhood, but back then I was just the extreme shy child sitting in the trees at the playground looking down upon the wild social noisy children, studying them, in silence from a fare.

What about the kid at the school I work at, he speaks to my son, but doesn't speak to anyone else. Allegedly he got teased for the sound of his voice. So how is it not his choice?

I've been selected to fill the position as a key worker with a child that most likely have SM. I'll have about 30 mins two times a week alone with the child to do various things. Your videos have caught my interest, as I've for a while now been doing a few sounds with the child just during the school day. I'm trying to be very cautious as to how I'll go about shaping and incorporating new sounds. When will I know when the child is fully comfortable? Your ideas for activities is amazing, I'll try and incorporate several of them. How much should the child be exposed to interventions like sound making from my coworkers? Should they minimize it as much as they can?

Exactly. I have selective mutism, and I only talk to people I've known my whole life and that I see a ton. The only people I talk to are 4 of my cousins, one of my friend's who I've known my whole life, my brother, my mom, and my dad before he died. I always tremble and have a panic attack when someone tries to talk to me (other than the people I stated) especially whenever someone isn't with me to tell them that I have selective mutism.

It's disheartening to see the lack of support for children with selective mutism. Recognizing it as a distinct condition and developing specific assessment methods and plans could greatly benefit these children. Addressing their unique needs and ensuring a supportive environment is crucial for their safety, well-being, and future success. Advocating for a separate identity within special schools might be a step toward providing more tailored assistance. As parents department still handover autisam forms, that's totally opposite assessment of selective mutism. Still, the department has no selective mustisam forms, no EHCP section that covers selective. The absence of specific plans for selective mutism in mainstream schools exacerbates the challenges these children face. Using autism assessment forms, which may not align with the unique needs of selective mutism, further underscores the need for dedicated tools and strategies tailored to this condition. Advocating for accurate assessments and targeted support is essential to address the distinct challenges these children encounter in mainstream educational settings.
