      That's always the risk with a sequel to a great standalone film. Especially if that sequel comes many years after the first. Still, Top Gun Maverick proved it can be done right. We'll see with this one though.

      @NeilChaseFilm 23 дні тому

      I can't discuss actual numbers yet, other than to say it's VERY low budget. You wouldn't believe the number of favors we've had to pull to get as many resources and locations as we have. Is there anything in specific you'd like to know? I can do a follow up video to answer those questions.

      @@NeilChaseFilm understandable.. but I think “LOW” is suuuper subjective lol! How long is the shoot planned? Are you financing out of pocket or have a loan or have outside financiers? I just want to understand what the rates for a skeleton crew would be so that I know if I’m being ripped off or not because crew members have given me their daily rates for my shoot and I wanna see if they are reasonable …

    • @NeilChaseFilm
      @NeilChaseFilm 21 день тому

      @@Ozibiey Being an indy, we're filming mostly on weekends and the odd weekday. A lot of it is driven by location availability. As for rates, it all depends on where you are. The smaller your local film industry, the better the rates (but the smaller the pool of talent). There's always a trade off.

    Given the amount of complete flops from the MCU, and Hollywood in general, over the past few years, I'm not expecting much from Venom III. The fact that neither of the main characters have been replaced in the name of "diversity" is, by itself, a small victory for the fans. Hardy is always a solid actor though so I plan on watching it and finishing the trilogy.

    • @NeilChaseFilm
      @NeilChaseFilm 24 дні тому

      Hardy is the single best reason for the success of this franchise, especially when you consider he plays both Eddie Brock and the voice of Venom, which are two staggeringly different roles.

    • @petewest3122

    Having watched both the first movie & the cartoon as a kid this trailer gets me excited for this movie. But remembering its (current year) my guard is still up & I'm on the lookout for any red flags. I hope the writing is on par with everything else. If we get "made for a modern audience" writing it will be a disaster.

    Looks fun, and to be honest Burton tends to be pretty cryptic with his trailer reveals if not completely subsersive. For example I already know one fact about this trailer that is intentionally misleading. Ill just say it isnt Astrid who summons Beetlejuice. I also have no problem with nostalgia so long as its done right and remember its only nostalgia to those who are familar with it. There will be alot of people for whom this will be their first Beetlejuice film. It also stands to reason that you'd fill your trailer with the known aspects of the previous film so as to not give away the new stuff. I'm VERY excited for this one. I was to young to see the original in theaters so this will be a treat for me.

      I'm always wary of sequels that come out so long after the first film, but it's got the right cast and crew at the helm, and Keaton looks like he's having fun, so that's a big plus.

    To Kill a Mockingbird was a utterly unique movie for its time. In fact the vast majority of movies from the past were bad and are now forgotten. A few movies survive the test of time, but it was not like we got a Godfather or Empire Strikes Back every week at the drive in when I was a kid. Over the last few years we have gotten some amazing movies, 2023 was an excellent year for Hollywood pictures and 2024 promises to be even better. Dune 2 is a breakthrough movies. Ideas like this are just matter of nostalgia bias. A few movies from a long period of past history are remembered. People today look at these movies that are remembered and view them as old movies. The internet means that people are not being shown bad old movies on TV or Cable anymore and only see old movies they stream, so they elect to stream good movies. But Hollywood still releases movies to the theaters and if you compare these constant flow of all new movies against a selected group of the best old movies the new movies look bad. As for message be spread by movies, in the 1950s Hollywood became essentially a propaganda tool and some of the greatest classics were presented as promoting American or West Christian values. In the 1980s there was a flood of movies with messages about Communism, including spreading the lie that Vietnam was full of POWs who were never returned.

    As a fan it pains me to say this but I have to be honest - Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is a bad movie. The film is total a mess. It's boring, poorly paced, confusing, convoluted and overly complicated. There are far too many characters, some of which have been needlessly shoehorned into the story. It's overstuffed with unnecessary dialogue, dull subplots, pointless characters and scenes which go on for far too long. It's not funny either. I didn't laugh once during the movie, and neither did the audience I was watching it with. Neither is it frightening. Laughs and scares are the two things you expect from a Ghostbusters film but this latest entry in the series is completely devoid of any. Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan may be talented directors, but they're the wrong people to be writing Ghostbusters films. Afterlife was mediocre at best, but Frozen Empire is just plain bad. With a heavy heart, I rate this film 3 out of 10. I feel a lot of fans are in denial about just how bad this film is.

    Neil, my compliments to you. A thorough and deep dive into the critique and analysis of both movies and comparisons. I've been a fan of Jake's since he purposely dislocated his shoulder as a party trick in "City Slickers." (Shows my age) I miss Swayze. I was active duty during both "Red Dawn" and "Roadhouse." (a high school girlfriend is in Swayze's) I agree with you on all points. The original stands alone as a darkhorse become cult favorite, and Gyllenhall manages to power his offering through with an awful lot of blood, sweat, and theatrical power lifting. The work he did for himself and along with McGregor is very impressive. Maybe today's generation of 20 somethings don't nessarily want or need that old school romantic spark that lasted from the the Golden Age of cinema through to the end of the Baby Boomer's "glory days." Thanks, I'm a subscriber now and look forward to viewing your future reviews and looking through the previous.

    I agree on your review as a whole. I too, as a 47 year old man AND long time fight and UFC fan, was not only a fan of the original, but was eager to sit down with this one with my 17 year old son to see McGregor in his first ever film. I agree it wasn't so much that his acting was poor or bad per say, but definitely one dimensional. And that was disappointing because he's a talented well spoken person who is obviously not only an athlete, but is very intelligent. I feel like with better staff writing and more intentional patient directing, he could've pulled off some other looks in terms of his acting instead of the operating at "eleven" as you stated, and as a maniacal comedic menace EVERY scene! I like your take there. It WAS a lazy approach to manifesting the villian here, I feel confident he (Conor) that is could have done more if they hadn't have just said "Ok Conor basically be yourself like you're promoting a fight this whole time, pretend you're on stage, except say these specific lines"! But to give credit where it's due for his very first acting job I'd say he did a "fair" job as the comical maniac villian here. Obviously his fight scenes were good I thought I mean if anyone should be able to pull that off it would be him. And Jake of course is a great actor; but by in large I was disappointed with the movie and it's plot as a whole. Other than some good fight moments, there were few scenes that either made me say wow, or made me think, or laugh, or feel any other emotion that you typically like to feel while watching an engaging movie. Anyway, that's my 2 cents...great review I enjoyed it and I felt you were spot on. New subscriber here! Thumbs up 👍

      They should remake films that had a ton of potential but poor execution. Instead they go for the low hanging fruit and capitalize on an established fan base.

    No disrespect to Jake Gyllenhaal or any of the actors (or 1 actor wannabe) who were in this pig of a movie, but it was a horrible remake and in general just a terrible movie. I like Gyllenhaal and he was about the only aspect of the movie that was redeeming. However the screenwriter and producer should have taken this one off. Everything that made the original movie good was left out here and the story line and characters were lightweight and in some cases just confusing. The interplay between the bad guys was off, the phantom "dad" in prison who you never saw was weird, and the interplay between the Magnussen and McGregor characters was really bad. Poor Gyllenhaal had very little to work with and it was obvious from the start that taking the lazy way out of just making him "down on his luck" was the wrong way to go. Overall this one just sucked and I wish I hadn't wasted that 90 minutes.

      Hard to argue these points. Jake was the saving grace, and I wish he was given a better script to work with.

      " One actor wanna be " I hope you're talking about the doctor, because she was the worst thing in the movie. At least McGregor was entertaining.

    Right on brother! Story telling is the key. Every human being can see themselves in a well told story. I don’t have to be a boxer to relate to Rocky Balboa, I don’t have to be a Danish female farmer to relate to Karen Blixin. Well told stories we see ourselves in naturally.Sadly we ain’t going back it’s CG and crap stories here on in. Modern film making seems to have a lot in common with a certain unnamed European country in the 30’s.

    re Eddie as reactive bystander vs the one in charge: In the film, the scene where Michael Pearson orders Raymond Smith to bring Laura Pressfield home (47min mark) is, in my opinion, one of the most symbolic of the story. Smith is so cool, calm, collected; Steps ahead of most, including Fletcher, he's the consiglieri of the genius, deadly gangster Pearson. And he starts to get this eye twtch when asked to get Pressfield out of the heroine den. As Pearson says to Lord George (109min), "...my jam, it doesn't kill anyone, and I like that. While your poison is and always has been a destroyer of worlds." For Eddie, a Captain in the Army on a peacekeeping mission on the border of Turkey and Syria (volatile), staying cool, calm, collected is what makes him good at his job. Being essentially ordered to deal with cocaine, marijuana, illegal gambling, his selfish brother who's told to "try missing in front this time" during skeet shooting (which I take to subtly mean 'try failing as a leader this time'), and the underworld bigwigs, I think maybe Eddie's learning how to become a leader in this new "peace keeping capacity", while also trying to get his particular eye-twitch temper / reactive bystander under control - train his inner dog, as Susie Glass would say. I think this series is off to a good start and am looking forward to future reviews!

      I felt that the big battle was over too quickly. Would have been nice to see some back and forth, rather than the one-sided affair it was. But it's a minor thing. Overall, I loved it.

    Great review, good point on the passage of time. I did wonder if I was convinced that enough time and event has passed for Paul to gain the trust of the Fermans. Good thing the movie has great pacing so it never took me out of it for more than a few seconds.

    Lady Jessica's pregnancy is towards end 2nd trimester, by end of film. The Emperor is an insecure character completely captured by the Bene, why his character came across as weak, because he is.

      Agreed. Which is why I think the role is wasted on an actor of Walken's caliber. He's someone who naturally comes across as strong and assertive. Maybe that's why he felt underused.
